Thanks a lot and the best part is, there is a 15 day trial period so you can be sure you made the right decision...or not :) The transmission line one will be in 2 to 3 weeks BUT it is very different. I'd throw the kit speaker Falcon Acoustics Q7 into the ring here (preferredly with the gold badge crossover). Half the price of an LS3/5a and same components, only slightly bigger cabinet.
Hi Thomas, I really like the way your designer found a driver that allowed him to push the crossover frequency to 5KHz, it makes a lot of sense to me. Too many designs crossover way too low and that also means needing tweeters that can handle much more power, which also has some major disadvantages. When paired well, a two way design should be very hard to detect which part of your signal is coming from the tweeter. Far too often, loudspeakers give fatigue because we are too aware of the different drive units and focus too much on the sound from the tweeter. Well that's what experience has taught me. Good luck with this new project.
Chario crosses at below 1600Hz, because according to them, it's more difficult to detect phase at such frequencies. Many times, tweeters are detectable due to dispersion mismatch - wider dispersion than the woofer, in those mid-high frequencies, so you hear "more tweeter" in your room.

Oh Thomas you’re a bad boy hahah. Im so happy for you that you started your own company and are doing things for the people! But, I am not happy for my wallet in the years to come 😂😂😂.
Those drivers look like from Dayton Audio. Personally I am not so sure about crossing that woofer at 5kHz and from the simulation it shows the drivers are not summing that well between around 2.2kHz to 4.2kHz. In fact that tweeter can be crossed much lower with no problem.
Tweeter looks like Dayton rst28f, but that's a good tweeter. Not sure about woofer. I agree that 5k is not optimal point for crossover. Woofer is going to be beaming a lot at crossover
I have been playing with crossover for over a year now and I also thought, how is it possible to crossover at 5khz, I get distortion trying to cross over at 3khz already with my other speakers. Well, this is what happen when a rocket scientist (literally) design a speakers, it might not make sense in theory but when I listen to it, I can't tell.
@@ThomasAndStereo I am currently still tuning the crossover of my DIY speaker after 2 years of listening, so I know what you mean 😄. Not only theoretically, practically it shows there is phase issue between 2.2kHz to 4.2kHz, that's why the drivers are not summing properly. If it's me, I will not cross higher than 3kHz. BUT if you like what you hear, that's what it matters. 😉
@@cpaint69 Thanks, yup I personally cross my speakers at 2khz. However, none of the speakers I worked on have a midrange like this one. That is why I put the 10 other speakers that are developed for me by professionals on hold.
@@ThomasAndStereo crossover has nothing to do with distortion. Such a high crossover point will impact directivity, or sound dispersion. Woofer will have narrow dispersion at 5k, and when tweeter takes over, it will have wide dispersion, so it's a mismatch. Also like someone mentioned, at high frequency drivers go out of phase easy because of short sound waves and comb filtering. For example, two tweeters is generally not a good idea. Some tweeters just can't be crossed low enough, but Dayton rst28f is super happy at 2k crossover
Looks alot like the little Harbeth.... LS3/5 BBC uses Kef drivers...and has a very complex and costly cross over filter. Your speaker sounds very musical .......but a LS3/5 is an LS3/5...... Any way the demo is sounding GOOD ! So one should not compare those two different speakers ........both are what they are ! The woofer of the LS3/5 is mounted at the rear of the front panel.....that changes the dispersion and charges the speaker different than a front mounted speaker. Wish you succes with the new speaker...and excellent synergy with your Galion amp... Another speaker I like and I still listen too is the KEF ref 101........witch I sometimes prefer to the BBC speaker , both are closed cabinets ...
love the mentioning of the rf7iii. the more i can learn about them i love. on a scale of 1-20 how bad is the mid range on the rf7iii? thanks man love the review. or how much better is the rmidrange of the speaker youre reviewing compared to rf7s? thanks again
The RF7 midrange is excellent, just that it does not have the resolution of the Klipsch Forte. Meaning, if you want to hear the exchange of breath of the singer, you would need to put more effort in. You can argue the RF7 is 'smoother' so you don't hear as much information in the midrange. It is not bad at all and some people might prefer that. We tend to exaggerate in a review when comparing but if you have nothing to compare to, the RF7 midrange is just fine.
If you can raise the sensitivity within it's volume constraint and defy the laws of physics that would be amazing. Are you keeping the classic LS35A bass hump or smooth it out for a more linear transition to a sub?
Based on your review/ comments its a "Very Impressive Speaker". However, how does it sound at low listening levels? How is its H &W off-axis performance? Is placement a problem/ critical?
Well you have to keep in mind this speaker sounds best nearfield on a desk so you are not playing at loud volume. As long as your volume is not too too low, it is ok. Off axis, based on measurement is normal. On my desk, I usually have it almost pointing forward anyways.
This looks like a pretty decent deal for a desktop. Just curious, though, are you using dayton audio classic woofers and reference tweeters? What components are you using in the crossovers? Thanks!
I asked the designer and let me just copy and paste what he said. "The capacitors and inductors are all custom made. If you notice the value of one of the caps is 11uF. A very non standard value. Even the 4.7uF cap was made for this as the manufacturer doesn’t hold onto large inventory of parts. They are made when the XO is ordered. The resistors are standard values and probably stock items but also made by same company. " Yes, we use Dayton RST28F-4 tweeter and DC130A-8 woofer. They were chosen for smooth response, and low breakup modes below the XO frequency and the woofer has natural falloff at 5kHz which allows me to place an electro-acoustic 4th order low pass filter using a 2nd order electrical filter. The woofer also has a nice pincushion shape bezel for a distinctive retro look. The tweeter is quite advanced with a large magnet, a low resonant frequency, a damped rear chamber, copper pole pieces to reduce distortion, and uses ferrofluid cooling to handle higher power. It compares well to much more expensive Scandinavian offerings and I actually prefer the smoothness of the Dayton (cost no object). There is a “phase spider” mounted under the metal mesh grill to give a smooth polar response. I like the mesh grill - it protects the tweeter and smooths the sound. There aren’t many dome tweeters on the market with a mesh grill. The tweeter also has a thick aluminum front plate that feels solid and looks clean. "
Thank you for the great reply. I surely suspect you will sell quite a few of these once you offer an mdf or birch cabinet like you mentioned, at a slightly lower cost, I suspect. I'm a big fan of the dayton classic woofers myself. The aluminum reference or even the aluminum classic series just don't do midrange for me very well. I wish you the best with these and your other ventures. I'm planning on buying one of your amps next year. I can't wait.
Hello Thomas, really interesting news. I always been big fan of closed speakers. Are the speakers available for shipping in Europe? Are there any eupopenan warehouses so to avoid customers duties? Thanks
Hi Thomas Can you give the spelling of designer Being a Bob Carver fan I found it interesting that Dr ? is the lead designer I would love for you to review the Carver RAM 285, I do realize this may be a little complicated since you are promoting your own products, but thought you would enjoy it just the same. Take Care Bill
If ordered do these ship directly from China? Also I see these are 83dB, though you did say they need power so I guess you’re acknowledging they are demanding of power.
No, they ship from the USA so there is no customs if you are in the USA. They do need power to reach louder volume but they are easy to drive in the sense you will still get good dynamic contrast, good control of the bass drivers and no compression even if you don't have a powerful amp. They worked well on my desk with a 30w tube amp.
I remember having that ATC for a while and yeah, great midrange. I can't really tell how they compare because it has been so long but you probably cannot put the ATC on your desk? I never tried that.
I can in theory send you 3 pairs. My only concern is shipping because in the USA, I am only charging $39 for shipping so it makes it a good deal. Shipping to the UK is going to cost an arm and a leg. Email me at thomas.tan@galion-audio.com and we can perhaps figure this out to see what is the best decision for you. I have set international shipping to $95 for now.
Nice speaker. Sound demo sounds great. I was listening to the first track for a while deciding if I like the track and realize my toe is tapping all by itself. That's good.
Hi Thomas, can you make a class B amplifier with tone controls, loudness, headphone jack and phono input build in without any sound quality compromised and without the price tag of the Accuphases, of course if you can also put the vu metres will be great 👍.
@@jameschan2404 I was really impressed with what Emotiva came out with at the Toronto Audio show. Check out that video, it might have most of the stuff you want built in. I will be reviewing the BC Acoustiques EX234 which have also almost everything you are asking for for less than $1k

It better be binge worthy to live up to the Voyager name, I love that show also. I own the Wharfedale Denton80th, I wonder how it compares to the TS Voyager..
Ah, that one is taking a lot of time because it is build in Canada and I need to coordinate with 5 different companies, unlike China, I can just deal with one company.
@@ThomasAndStereo I'm not sure the new version is "better" for my situation. I'd be using them with OB bass enhancers that include a crossover. The signal to the speakers is 100hz and above. Don't need the extra bass of the SE. It's the LS3/5A design brief of the original that has me interested.
I am just waiting for the casing. The problem is because it is made in Canada and I have to deal with multiple manufacturers and right now, the casing is what is holding everything back. I would expect 3 months-ish at this point.
@@ThomasAndStereo Understand that but most of us listen without grills and having so many holes in bamboo finish is, for me, not so aesthetically pleasing. Just my opinion.

I’m a big fan of yours Thomas…but…a one year warranty? Why would I buy a product with a dismal warranty, if you’re not going to stand behind it why would I buy it?
Thanks for the support. I thought one year is standard and it is a speaker, it should not break unless someone pushes the volume really loud. What is a good length for warranty?
@@ThomasAndStereo standard warranty for speakers is five years, some companies offer a ten year, the shortest I’ve seen is three years, I’m sure you already know this. A one year warranty is a deal breaker for me.
Congrats on the new product! Question - would you consider an ultra-efficient, higher impedance co-axial? This would be able to serve a wide range of tube amps Ideal would be 97 db, 8 ohm “MoFi SourcePoint 10”. Would need a sub for base, but those are cheap

i think you said before i wrap it up 10 times lol. you say a more musical speaker isnt bombarding you with detail but you alsos ay a musical speaker has more detail in the midrange, kinda conflicting
Ah, the top-end detail is not the same as the midrange resolution. I should have been cleared about that. Usually, when you have a very revealing tweeter, the top-end detail can be quite impressive. The downside is some might not like it after 30 minutes.
@@ThomasAndStereo I thought it was something like this but just wanted a deeper elaboration on it for my own knowledge and for that I thank you. It’s also conflicting tho to say some might not like a more revealing tweeter after a certain amount of time. I find if a tweeter or speaker is more on the brighter end the more time you spend with that speaker in a certain listening session your ears will adjust toning down what seemed to be bright at first to more manageable listening. But this is just me tho I’d imagine other people would agree and I completely understand after so long with s brighter speaker it can wear on you in other situations.
@@daveycrockett5738 You are right some people will adjust, and some will not. That is why I always say, it really depends on each person and there is no right or wrong answer.
Oh no, they sold a lot. Look at some of the rave reviews they got, I have linked to them on the purchase page. I think they even got awarded "Product of the Year' on one of the websites. It is just because they have developed the transmission line version for me and I told them I love the sound of these small speakers and would love to have it under the Galion brand. The return rate on these speakers was less than 1% when they were selling them.
That old Proac is as far away from the LS3/5a as a ported speaker can be far from a sealed one with different dimensions and design philosophy. For a Proac speaker more akin (but better) than the BBC you should look at the Tablette 10 Signature. One of the last of the late Stewart Tyler designs it is magical in my opinion. Of course it is double the price of your speaker but still much cheaper than current BBC replicas whose stratospheric prices do not reflect their sound quality but are a product of marketing and myth induced demand.

100% - Looking forward to hearing them all !! =)
I'd like to put them against my Sonus Faber Lumina 2.
Nah, you would put the transmission line version against the Lumina 2. This one is really for desktop or very nearfield.
@@ThomasAndStereo ... 👍🏻👍🏻
Thomas, any plans to add a standalone subwoofer option?
Exactly, both are what they are! Love that quote.
Exciting stuff going on at Galion!
love the mentioning of the rf7iii. the more i can learn about them i love. on a scale of 1-20 how bad is the mid range on the rf7iii? thanks man love the review. or how much better is the rmidrange of the speaker youre reviewing compared to rf7s? thanks again
@@ThomasAndStereo isee thank you. As always your the best
@@ThomasAndStereo what about comparing it to the speaker you were talking about in the video?
If you can raise the sensitivity within it's volume constraint and defy the laws of physics that would be amazing. Are you keeping the classic LS35A bass hump or smooth it out for a more linear transition to a sub?
There is a bass hump.
Great news! taking the industry by storm, one step at a time. All the bast Thomas.
Thank you for your reply - much appreciated!@@ThomasAndStereo
This looks like a pretty decent deal for a desktop. Just curious, though, are you using dayton audio classic woofers and reference tweeters? What components are you using in the crossovers? Thanks!
I asked the designer and let me just copy and paste what he said.
"The capacitors and inductors are all custom made. If you notice the value of one of the caps is 11uF. A very non standard value. Even the 4.7uF cap was made for this as the manufacturer doesn’t hold onto large inventory of parts. They are made when the XO is ordered. The resistors are standard values and probably stock items but also made by same company. "
Yes, we use Dayton RST28F-4 tweeter and DC130A-8 woofer.
Waterfall plot looks unusual? Is the low data cut off?
Hello Thomas, really interesting news. I always been big fan of closed speakers.
Are the speakers available for shipping in Europe? Are there any eupopenan warehouses so to avoid customers duties? Thanks
They can be shipped to Europe from USA but unfortunately, there are customs as I don't have them in an european warehouse.
Any plans to have wider distribution in Europe?
Hi Thomas
Can you give the spelling of designer
Being a Bob Carver fan I found it interesting that Dr ? is the lead designer
I would love for you to review the Carver RAM 285, I do realize this may be a little complicated since you are promoting your own products, but thought you would enjoy it just the same.
Take Care
Bill
Hi Bill, it is Dr. Viet Nguyen. Oh if I get a chance to review it, I am open to it forsure.
Cooking rice in bambo trunk. Delicious. I assume Thomas you tried that LOL.
I am sure I have tried that at one point.
Thomas i just bought the ATC SCM7's and they kill it. how would these compare?
I remember having that ATC for a while and yeah, great midrange. I can't really tell how they compare because it has been so long but you probably cannot put the ATC on your desk? I never tried that.
Well I guess I need some new speakers , Thanks Thomas. Checks bank, not yet but sooooooooon.
My Klipsch R15m's are a bit tired.
Hi Thomas,
Are you able to supply 5 of the speakers for a 5.1 music only set-up.
Shipping will be to the uk
Thanks
I can in theory send you 3 pairs. My only concern is shipping because in the USA, I am only charging $39 for shipping so it makes it a good deal. Shipping to the UK is going to cost an arm and a leg. Email me at thomas.tan@galion-audio.com and we can perhaps figure this out to see what is the best decision for you. I have set international shipping to $95 for now.
We audiophiles love heavy amplifiers. The heavier the better.
This is true true true 😂
Thomas is there a trial period with the New Voyager ?
Yeah, it is 2 weeks so people can be sure if this is the right speaker for them.
@ThomasAndStereo That's Great Thomas '
Sweet!!! Congrats.
Thanks!!
@@ThomasAndStereo… Take my money! I got a small room and subwoofer. 😊
Nice speaker. Sound demo sounds great. I was listening to the first track for a while deciding if I like the track and realize my toe is tapping all by itself. That's good.
Ah, that is a good sign. Yes, there is good bass with these speakers.
Looks like xsa vanguard. I have a pair. Didn"t know Thomas did crossover.
It is a XSA Vanguard, they have retired it and brought it under the Galion brand.
Hi Thomas, can you make a class B amplifier with tone controls, loudness, headphone jack and phono input build in without any sound quality compromised and without the price tag of the Accuphases, of course if you can also put the vu metres will be great 👍.
Wow, a class B, I don't think any of my designers are into class B.
Sorry it should be class AB.

@@jameschan2404 I was really impressed with what Emotiva came out with at the Toronto Audio show. Check out that video, it might have most of the stuff you want built in. I will be reviewing the BC Acoustiques EX234 which have also almost everything you are asking for for less than $1k
These are XSA labs Vanguard speakers
Yes, I shared that info on the Galion-audio page linking to rave reviews. It even won the system of the year award. www.tonepublications.com/audiophile-apartment/our-system-of-the-year-for-2023/
Great review Thomas and very interesting speakers, of course!
Also good to see you're using a Yamaha WXA-50, one of my favoured amps, with the Voyagers 😊
Yeah, the WXA-50 is a hidden gem. I think I might have highly recommended as a product of the year in one of my videos.
Do you remember British AVI Neutron speakers?
No but I noticed it is a ported design.
It better be binge worthy to live up to the Voyager name, I love that show also. I own the Wharfedale Denton80th, I wonder how it compares to the TS Voyager..
My favorite Star trek series actually. Never listened to the Denton so I have no idea.
Send me a pair, I’d be interested to give them a listen.
Yup yup! Let me get the transmission line version too and I will send you both.
@@ThomasAndStereo Perfect.
You gonna hawk the class a amplifier too?
Ah, that one is taking a lot of time because it is build in Canada and I need to coordinate with 5 different companies, unlike China, I can just deal with one company.
Well done
Is the version available today still made from bamboo?
Yes! But I now have a better SE version.th-cam.com/video/T198GEXChS4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Tee-JayTheStereo-Bargainphile
Nominal impedance 8 ohms? How low does it go?
About 7 ohm.
When does the TS A20 release?
I am just waiting for the casing. The problem is because it is made in Canada and I have to deal with multiple manufacturers and right now, the casing is what is holding everything back. I would expect 3 months-ish at this point.
Can most of the screw hole be covered? It seems distracting.
The speaker grill will cover it.
@@ThomasAndStereo Understand that but most of us listen without grills and having so many holes in bamboo finish is, for me, not so aesthetically pleasing. Just my opinion.
Ok, I would definitely buy a Thomas speaker, not even listen first.
Ah, given it is a niche market product, I allow people to try it for 2 weeks because I respect the fact that we all have different taste. This is definitely not for Focal fans. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
No Harbeth P3ESR regular version?
I had 2 of them a while ago.
Your speaker looks exactly like the XSA Vanguard speaker bamboo and all ?
Yes it is the XSA Vanguard designed by Dr. Viet, I guess I did not explain it well in the video but on the purchase page, I explained it.

I'm i correct?
I’m a big fan of yours Thomas…but…a one year warranty? Why would I buy a product with a dismal warranty, if you’re not going to stand behind it why would I buy it?
Thanks for the support. I thought one year is standard and it is a speaker, it should not break unless someone pushes the volume really loud. What is a good length for warranty?
@@ThomasAndStereo standard warranty for speakers is five years, some companies offer a ten year, the shortest I’ve seen is three years, I’m sure you already know this. A one year warranty is a deal breaker for me.

Question - would you consider an ultra-efficient, higher impedance co-axial? This would be able to serve a wide range of tube amps
Ideal would be 97 db, 8 ohm “MoFi SourcePoint 10”. Would need a sub for base, but those are cheap
None for now. One thing I learned, it is so hard to develop speakers. Amplifiers and preamps are way easier.

i think you said before i wrap it up 10 times lol. you say a more musical speaker isnt bombarding you with detail but you alsos ay a musical speaker has more detail in the midrange, kinda conflicting

Thomas, it appears to me you just take on products that others had marketing failures with.
