About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

Cussing someone out is easy but telling a person the honest truth about themselves and they think it's a compliment. Is a lost art form.
Sammy should have gotten an Emmy for his performance.
Why ? It was a simple sketch not the 10 commandments
@@wurly164 Never heard of the Emmys' Guest Actor category? It's been around for literally decades.
If the Emmys had it back in the '70's, Sammy definitely would've been a contender for it that year.

@SunnyDaze-uq8ed Someone has anger issues
@SunnyDaze-uq8ed once you lose your virginity, you will be less angry.
If there was a top 10 of the greatest moments in television sitcom history if that moment isn't on the list I would be very disappointed. Absolute classic
I remember that the laughter went on for a very long time in the original episode on TV. It was the70's they didn't edit out as much as they do these days. As you say that should be in the top 10. Absolutely brilliant. RIP Norman Lear.
“I can honestly say, having spent these marvelous moments with you, you ain’t better than anybody.” Sammy rules! 😂
Great line!
This never gets old....the kids singing on the couch
I know that was funny!
. 😅
That episode is very funny and iconic 50 years later when Sammy kissed Archie
Thanks for your stating-the-obvious editorial endorsement there, captain obvious...
It ain't right. Forcing the races to intersex that way...
@@wisecracker1814 You need a laxative.
@russellcollier8202they actually had to shoot it twice, because the laughing was so long...this is the 2nd kiss
My mother loved it. Had to be her favorite TV moment of all time. After this aired, if she weren't calling her friends to talk about it, they were calling her.
The look on Archie's face says it all, lol😅😅😅. Rest in peace, Norman Lear 1922 -2023🙏.
Carroll O’Connor Played Archie So Well!
That is one of the most iconic scenes in all of TV history.
Absolutely! This is one of the best programs in TV history. Extraordinary.
Archie is a gem!
Sammy “Someone came and got us.”
The loudest and biggest laugh on TV when Sammy kissed Archie...EPIC
Begging your pardon, but Carol Burnette might beg to differ...her "Gone with the Wind" spoof when she came down the stairs wearing the window curtains, and Tim Conway's elephant story ad-lib are both up there as equally legendary. Just sayin'.
I've read that this scene had to be shot twice, because the first time, the audience (and other cast members) laughed so loudly and for so long that it cut into Archie's final comment.
Sammy appeared on Archie Bunkers Place and the ending was will nice it had a twist to it.😊
Yes it was. ! I believe it still holds the record
That still holds true today " You ain't better then anybody " 😅
Loved the part where Sammy was tryjng so hard not to laugh 😂😂 he was the greatest, glad they had him on the show, sammy n archie are awesome together, may they both RIP. ❤️
Sammy and Carroll were longtime close friends, which is why the chemistry was SO GOOD!
@@leahartlee29 makes sense.
Sammy was just so talented in whatever medium he chose "music, acting, dancing". Plus he promoted love between all

He was so different from Archie in real-life, such a great actor!
Yes, Carroll was more Liberal than Rob Reiner!! He was also a High School History teacher, before the acting bug bit him! @@ifeelpretty5790
Gotta admit, Archie was pretty good sport about the whole thing. XD
Good sport? Lol. He was mocked to his face and didn't even notice. Typical bigot! Love this show.
@@resistresist1811 I was talking about the kiss. XD
4:47 Poor Gloria is about to go into a coma😂
Never get tired of this or this show! Iconic comedy!
They just don't make shows like this anymore. So damn funny. And great.
Those were the days!
This show and many others that came along in this era, had outstanding writers and actors. I don't think we will ever see it again. Thank you "TH-cam" for reminding us the way it was back in the day. First name Roger and my last name Cook. 10/8/2022
My favorite episode with Sammy Davis Jr, Mr wonderful!!
Timeless Episode Wit' 2 Legends:
Sammy Davis Jr. & Carroll O'Connor!!
THESE were the GOOD days!!! People had a sense of humor!! No one got offended by comedy! Love Sammy Davis Jr., love Carrol O’Connor! This episode was priceless! 😂😂😂
People have always been offended. I remember tons of people wanted this show cancelled because it went too far.
Millions were offended at the time. The switchboards almost went down with all the calls outraged by this interracial kiss on the cheek. I remember my mother, a diehard racist who voted, like most Floridians, for George Wallace in the 1972 primaries, and who got off her deathbed to vote for Donald Trump, was one of them.
There definitely would have been people who were offended by that scene. In fact, when this show was first starting out, a LOT of people were furious at it because of the way it satirized so many of the beliefs they held. But the thing is, there was no internet back then, so the connections that are made today by the easily-offended weren't so easy back then.
After reading all the comments left to your posting, I have to agree with them. I watched these shows when they were originally broadcasted and they were HUGELY controversial at the time. You seriously need to stop thinking that people were 'less offended' back in the 70s. Remember, this was around the time that Southern states refused to broadcast an interracial kiss between Captain Kirk and lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek!
Someone must have told them where we were cuz someone came and got us!!!!!!!!!
Sammy Davis Jr and Carroll O'Connor are awesome
Sammy was a genius!
Gloria Was Cracking up Laughing part 🤣
Greatest show in tv history Greatest comedy . Sammy was the best guest they ever had
The genius of Norman Lear. May he rest in peace.
The Best sitcom ever !
This show is CLASSIC! Sammy should have gotten an Emmy; no question!
Sammy was brilliant here!
Archie’s whole life changed in a second
That whole segment deserved an Emmy! Priceless!
One of my favorite moments in one of my favorite series!
I still love that fourth wall break from Archie (almost) in character there. I know some people hate fourth wall breaks, but I felt it was appropriate here for some reason.
No television show at any time can be funnier than this. This whole particular episode is absolutely LOADED with little tidbits of humor all over the place. If there was ever an iconic show episode and specific instances IN that episode, this has to be it. This episode is an example of writing and acting where every box on the sheet was checked and it all came out perfectly. Needless to say, while the whole show was comedy plus, what happened at the end simply makes you roll over on the floor. You laugh so hard you find yourself crying and not know it. I can only imagine and dream what it must have been like to be in the audience that day. If nothing else, it shows what professional acting is all about. Priceless.
Thank you, Norman Lear.
My favorite part is when the little girl comes over and tap dances on the portable floor.
GET OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😄😄😄😄😄
You ruined her jam!!
@@RobQuincyAdamsI could never make out what her mother was saying until I read your comment just now. Although I think it’s also possible she might’ve said “You ruined her chance!”
Wait, Mrs. Haskell! You forgot your floor!
@@StealthMode3924 I think you might be right. All the scripts say "chance" but I still hear it as "jam." But chance makes more sense.
Some of the BEST tv ever, my favorite tv show of all time, mike evans and rob reiner 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
U saw Archie face like he swollen some
I like that Twinkie on the plate.
Classical comedy thanks NORM LEAR😅
They say Carroll O'Conner was the direct opposite of Archie Bunker...
He was.
Absolutely Sam should have gotten an emmy not only for this but for Porgy and Bess too
Fun fact: Carroll O'Connor and Sammy Davis, Jr. were born only like a year apart.
Possibly the greatest show ever made! Especially these days.
Good one Sammy. Your right. Archie wasn't better than anyone.
Sammy didn’t need an award for it to be known he was one of the all-time greatest on and off stage.
Billy Halop's voice never changed. He sounds almost identical to when he played in The Dead End Kid's. Kind of sad seeing him so much older here..... Great actors.
Sammy is the best 👍
🥰 Awwww, a nice Jewish Mensch showing love to his Irish American brother.

Also priceless when Archie Bunker and his niece kissed Mr Davis Jnr in Archie Bunker's Place . Timeless classics
Greatest damn television show ever. 2nd would be the Honeymooners.
Man I remember when this episode first came on back in the 70s my father love this show not that he was a racist but he would just laugh at OG stupidity and another of his favorite shows was Sanford and son we had a neighbor two doors down name was Mr. Murphy before Sanford and son would come on TV Mr. Murphy would stand out on his front porch with a canna beer in his hand back in the days they had Bermuda shorts no shirts beer bellies and Murphy would yell to my father two houses down hey Lamont it’s time for the show my fathers name was Leroy and Mr. Murphy his name was John an Irishman may they both rest in peace long live all in the family Sanford and son the Jeffersons all those shows from the 70s they don’t make them like that anymore
Sammy Davis Jr Can Tap Dance 🕺 Too I heard
Classic.....that is all I can say
I wonder if that was scripted or if Sammy just ad-libbed? Maybe that's why Gloria was laughing so hard. Too funny!
It was scripted, you see Archie lean down so Sammy was able to be on the same level, height wise.
I thought the same thing!! But Archie went along with it perfectly!
This scene has become infamous for the reaction after. Laughter went for so long it was heavily edited due to time restraints 🤣
It's noted that they had to do several takes of this because the laughter from the cast, crew, and audience was too long.
This is hilarious one
FUN FACT: Sammy Davis Jr. and Carroll O Conner were longtime friends way before this episode, and Sammy expressed an interest to Carroll to be on the show, and Carroll and Norman Lear thought it would be great if Sammy played himself! And it was!! : )
I am rediscovering this show. I am 71 now cant rightly remember if I watched the original I was graduating from high school and onto junior college was still living at home with parents They might not have wanted me to see it. But as I said I rediscovered it thanks to reruns. I love Archie and Edith! They are too funny! I agree with most of what Archie said. I was brought up old fashioned like them and remain so to this day. Im sad that Carroll OConnor couldnt live a longer life. Would have loved to try and meet him in person! Watching every Sun night now where I live!
Great punchline! 1,2,3!
The man came back as Sammy Davis Junior Junior in the movie Everything Is Illuminated.
It looks like when Sammy was giving his review of Archie, he almost made Carrol break character and laugh
Could they have found a more perfect foil for Archie than Sammy Davis, Jr.? Personally, I don't think so!
The nurse in the hospital episode was great Foil too
Indeed! The postscript, of course, is “The Return of Sammy” when the format had changed to “Archie Bunker’s Place”. In that episode, Sam actually came to Archie’s defense because he had seen how much Archie, in spite of himself, had developed and, at least to a degree, mellowed out. Incidentally, this is when Archie and Stephanie turn the tables on Sam by kissing him. Whenever possible, I try to watch both episodes back to back because they complement each other so well.
Maude and Lionel could be, too.
I don't deny that these others were good foils, too, but I don't think they come up to the same level as Sammy. Why? Archie had negative opinions of blacks and Jews, and Sammy Davis, Jr., was both!
WE'RE HAVIN A CONVERSATION OVA HEA...PULL THE PLUG ON THAT!!!
I'm Rollin To The Hearse⚰⚰⚰ 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣
Sammy davis jr owns!
1972. I remember this episode. That kiss was cosidered almost revolutionary!
About 2 yrs. later Pres. Richard Nixon was almost gone due to Watergate. At a special event as he stood on stage speaking. Sammy Davis out of nowhere ran on stage and hugged Nixon Pissing off a lot of people. Blacks especially.
It should been a full episode
Archie: "Once you've had black, you never go back. Bye, Edith!!!!"
Sammy was a great actor
i miss all in the family the cast
"Oh well , it was in his contract"
Lol 😂😂😂😂😂👍💋
What an awesome show ! ❤
"What the hell, he said it was in his contract."
I Liked Sammy Davis Jr on The Cosby Show Too
I'm killing myself laughing, I laugh so hard every time I see this seen my ribs hurt it is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
He insulted Archie on the slick slide!!
Wow 50 Years a little longer than I been alive but I still love all those Classics from back then I was born in the 70s

This one and Kirk/Uhura.

I loved that Sammy Davis. The people nowadays who "think" they are talented cannot in any way compare to the original greats like Sammy, Cicely, and Sidney. No comparison at all.
One my favorites
Loved me some Carrol and Sammie 😅

This is why I always go back and watch these wonderful 70s comedies no filter no political correction correctness just like it is people have heart attacks because they bottle up up how they feel because they don't want to offend anybody. Do you know where with political political correctness
