---- Short History ----
- The first fortification is said to have been built by Arnold le Boteler (Butler) in the mid-12th century.
- It was a castellated manor house owned by the Vaughan family from the 16th century.
- In 1642 the house was sold to the Wyndham family.
- Thomas Wyndham (MP) rebuilt the manor house as a castellated hunting lodge in 1802-1806. It was designed by his wife.
- Their daughter Caroline began remodelling the building in 1858.
- The house was used as a military hospital in both world wars.
- It was used as a guest house afterwards.
- Eventually costs rose and it needed to be sold. The local council denied its development and so it was stripped of anything of value.
- It was demolished in 1963.
- The surviving garden and gatehouse are part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.

legend has it that it was lent to the council as a art school that was not successful, so it was empty for a while with the council still charging the owner rates, so one weekend he blew it up and all the wreckage dropped into the three story cellars. Please correct if i am wrong!
Well I have not heard that story. It may be true but your the first to say it.
