For newer players... There are many free characters that are quite good, maybe not the most powerful, but well worth the time to obtain. Aldo is always a worthy investment to build up in light points as he will continue to receive weapons/grasta/buffs that make him relevant in the meta... Again, not the most powerful, but worth the investment. The Chrono Cross collab characters are very versatile and can use multiple elements. Milla and Kid both were/still ccan be useful supports. Azami, Cerrine, and Gariyu are arguably the the most powerful of the free characters, especially with their AS forme and manifests/true manifests... Although you'll need strong teams to beat the tougher fights and get the most out of them. But once you obtain them they are worthy investments to build light/shadow with your green keys, because you'll be running Garulea dungeons to obtain pain/poison grasta and ores anyway.
Hmm, forgot to add that Aisha adds regen to either HP(Water) or MP(Fire) depending on which stance is set and how many skills of the requisite element are used in the turn.
@@jrpgwow no problem, I just remembered that as I've had her in my main party since I unlocked her, and the only time I don't is where I need specific strats for a boss, I've even beat Warped Life Reborn with her in my party(that was an absolute slog of a battle though)

My fave is Joker for mobs because his VC. Put him on reserve, switch with the most speed, and he'll sweep most of the mobs with free mp kill. And i also pair him with another charas with AoE damage VC in reserve so i dont need to spend mp for mobs when exploring maps.
Aldo will always be the stronger character, but I'll be honest: not everyone will enjoy using him, specially for new players, this is probably because there're so many free characters to be invested and it will be more difficult for them to decide who to invest (Specially red card dungeon units), so they will surely choose any of them apart of Aldo, and now we have SA System, anyone could get their own updates eventually (Except colab. units), so We have a door open to any possibility. When I started the game, I didn't have idea about the Light/Shadow grinding until after I completed Curio's Mythos, he's my first unit that surprass 100 light points, Mayu has +50 light points, but since I got Sesta, I was strongly focused on him. Wryz is my another unit with +100 light points, she was a good investment for her SA, I think she's absolutely good at 120 Light Points. Currently I'm planning to grinding one of the main story units... Well, I've decided that already, but this time it's not Aldo, but Feinne (Don't judge me) for two simpple reasons: 1) Because I lack units with decent shadow points, so I should pick one free shadow unit to be invested. 2) As I said before: the SA system gives you inmense possibilities, that means your favourite free unit will get their updates eventually, I did it with Wryz and I don't regret when they released her SA board, Feinne may get her SA right now too, she may be a strong and useful unit in the future, so the best opportunity for me is NOW. Altena is the same case, and you can grind her shadow points in Underworld AD, this is even better because you can invest in them simultaneously, who knows, She could get a strong passive with Feinne in frontline and viceversa. What many players see as waste of time, for me is an opportunity and I'll be the first one who can take advantage of that.
Thinking back to the free characters' unique Support options, Milla/Mira is still very good on offence and defence. If you use mostly non-elemental attacks, Milla heals everyone. Fire? She applies a one-turn Fire resistance debuff of 50%, on top of physical resistance and INT debuffs. Same for Water, Earth, and Wind.
@@jrpgwow While she's arguably best in elemental Slash teams and Zoneless Teams because of her 3x hit skill against physical resistance, she was the epitome of flexibility when she was released.

She's obviously not very powerful anymore, but as I always say - support characters hold their value... And she was a great support for quite a while. I still really like her as a character. 🙂
@aeadventures reset a few times to get one that wasn't immune to wind and used sesta, sa suzette, as melody and as yiphi with ac toova and Victor as grasta carries. After finishing realized I forgot to re equip sesta and melody. So beat it with both of them not having a weapon lol
So glad i got the most them maxed out in Light and Shadow. Now working on Wryz with 107 light right now and Aisha with 167 light and Kamlanage with 160 shadow. After them i am gonna work next on the Octopath collab characters for their Stellar Board.
A free unit I truly like using is Morgana as he's a solid healer (1500 HP to the whole party) and can pack quite a punch (pun absolutely intended xD) with attacks like Magarudyne and Miracle Punch (which always crits and stuns most of the time) specially when boosted with Wind High Boost. Only reason I've not been using him as much as lately is because I ended up getting Sazanca (with a 10 roll to boot... xD) and Sazanca doesn't work well with luring shadow characters. .P.S.: I started playing this game recently and I truly appreciate all the tips and pointers you give, keep up the good work ^^

The fact that Amy does not make the list is an absolute travesty. Not on your part, you nailed it, but WFS letting Amy slip into irrelevancy is unforgivable.
Agreed. Someone else was suggesting this in the comments, but they need to glow up our main characters to match up with the difficulty of the latest main story chapters! Especially since they’re in all the cutscenes
Colette can put up some insane damage though it is luck based. One of the strongest free non-elemental magic types in the game though it is luck based.
Hard for me to pick favorite free characters. They are honestly my favorite characters in the game as they are related to the collabs and main story. Ashtear makes me nostalgic, Aldo is our main character and will always be awesome, and Nona was *such* a great character with such a fantastic story. I used the main story characters (Aldo, Cyrus, Feinne, etc.) for all main story missions up until the newest story chapters (up through Tales of the East). It made me sad I couldn't continue this trend through these newest main story chapters.
You make a good point about the main story characters. I hope they get a glow up so we can continue using them in part 3! Especially as they’re usually in the cut scenes
Hello, I don't talk English, so, I have a question about the word "type". In another eden, does the word "Type" means, magical damage? I want to equip a grasta witch says: Crystal Type attack+. If I equip it in my Thillelille EX, will it increase her damage?
Honestly I would suggest you add "Benedict". The guy, without any stellar is already a super boss killer himself. Tho, I guess when people create character they can choose to pick 1 first character and it is included Benedict. Also, through your game process, you will definitely have him in some random pull anyway. Gariyu is kinda good but he is too outdated, unless WFS may make Gariyu become stellar unit then he can shine again. Same with Azami. Their kit only have 2 moves that are decent enough to be used nowadays. Not even 3 moves lol. 😢 i used to love Azami tho, not anymore and its a shame. Azami and Gariyu are the very first meta unit that hit super hard with 3 pain grastas back in the day. Welp, I think I will wrap up my comment by the name Benedict. He sure deserves some good position for his performance. ❤

I lost my OG account (2019) due to phone broke. RIP. I need to grind back again. I'm completely lost with the absurd damage to fight Aldo stellars and other true manifest weapon 😭
I get how that can be overwhelming. Which makes a good reason for them to come out with a sequel! If you do decide to come back, a lot of the original characters have gotten huge upgrades so there are a lot of familiar faces still
LOL. Some people still love Clarte, though (I could be 100% wrong) I don't see him getting a glow up any time soon. At least with Aldo, he will always (hopefully) get upgrades as the game progresses!
Just to add to that, Serge also increases in power the more light points he has. However, he may not be getting upgrades any time soon. I think Azami, Gariyu and Cerrine will get frequent upgrades, and we may see some upgrades to our main free characters with the new main story (hopefully).
Part 3 bro I have to play like 6 side quests before progress and after I defeat the boss and go for part 4 I need to play side quests to unlock Part 1 and 2 is not much I stop playing this after cleaning part 3 and see another side quest at Arat Maza village

Good point! The game rarely has non elemental units so she’s pretty useful for that, especially against Death Eater
Doesn't she also have steel like Kid. And also rathe hefty healing and buffing potential? I used her in quite few magic oriented partys.

Yes it will increase her crystal damage. Though I would recommend you use pain grasta instead!
Minalca by far for damage dealers. She's insane especially paired with Aisha.

Benedict 5 star is pretty good, and ensemble episode with Elseal and Felmina is pretty good too! He can hold up pretty well too if set up properly
