  • In whch yr hmbl svt ports Digital Research's seminal 1977 operating system CP/M to the 6502 processor, on camera!
This is initially aimed at the BBC Micro, simply because it makes development and debugging easy, but it's intended to be portable, with the Commodore 64 as a (very slow) secondary target. Binaries are relocated at load-time so to avoid depending on any particular memory layout; this is necessary due to the much less standardised 6502 memory maps.
All the code is available on github here: github.com/dav... (but beware of spoilers!)

I can't really believe I've watched an entire series about implementing an operating system I have never used for a computer I haven't seen since high school, in a language I will never touch. But I enjoyed this.

I love your series! The "Porting FUZIX to the ESP" was probably my favorite but I watched all of them and they're all awesome :)

You should try this on the Olimex Neo6502 when it's released. Bet it would be a very welcome addition on there.

Hmm a small disc cache of say a 4 sectors or indeed reading a track at a time for the BBC?

Nice work, would be really cool seeing this run on original hardware.

Definitely --- sadly, the only 6502 hardware I have is a VTech toy laptop which only has about 2kB of RAM!

Thanks so much for these videos. I've really enjoyed watching your process and appreciate the optimizations.. you just don't see that anymore.

Have you investigated a CBM fastloader?
