      instead of facing the facts im gonna pretend the lady spider isnt gettin ready for dinner n a show but is instead stunned that this pretty, dorky guy is doing a dance to impress her and shes just like "omfg shit do i look ok?? are my fangs ok?? i think i forgot to clean my fangs this morning oh gee pls dont notice pls dont notice,,,,"

      Peacockspiderman You should really make a book about these fascinating spiders as well. It's interesting to see characteristics of bravado when they are dancing around and I can also relate them to real life situations between female and male humans. I would personally love to study these spiders although I do have some form of arachnophobia. Haha.

    • @Peacockspiderman
      @Peacockspiderman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Channah Sorensen A few other people suggested a book, I would certainly have tons of pictures to illustrate it with, and it would be colourful. Problem is finding time to do it. If somebody would approach me and do all the leg work it could happen. I assume you live in the US where these spiders don't occur, but you could study related jumping spiders, or just look at them occasionally, I am sure you would lose your arachnophobia quite quickly if you did.

      Peacockspiderman Indeed very strange that it has so few likes/views. Hope it gets spread around. I have spread it through my channels.I think most are not as deeply amazed by spiders as you and me so they look for impressive colors and don't see all the amazing behaviors, the small and subtitle details in what and how they do it. SO much to study about them.

    Jürgen, I just saw on the National Geo site that you and David Hill have only recently described three new species of peacock jumpers. I saw the brief video clip and was enchanted with M. sceletus! He might be the least colourful but he sure makes up for that with his amazing dancing skills. I watched the short clip over and over and can't help laughing each time he shakes it. He reminds me a little of a flasher. I know you put a LOT into making these videos - no doubt days of work into videos only a couple minutes long at most. But your efforts are very well appreciated by many. I look forward to watching these three new species when you're ready to show them.
    This time I got to get a good look at how the female twists her abdomen around for the male. And even more excitedly, I got to see what I think was his tiny packet of sperm he placed in the female. Is that what the shiny round thing was he looked to be placing in her epigynum?
    I think you should be awarded something for your work in making spiders better liked by many. With some of us, you're 'preaching to the choir' but you've done much to make spiders seem cute to many of the others. I've pointed out your videos to any friends who don't run screaming when I tell them I've got some cute dancing spiders to show them. Oh well, I still love my spider-hating friends and maybe someday I'll be able to convert them.

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes I have been very happy with Peckhamia since David Hill, the editor of the journal, introduced me to it. Doesn't cost anything to publish in it, is free to download, accommodates loads of high res pictures, and is fast, what more would one want. I wish there was a journal like this for every group of spiders. But it takes dedication. If you want to thank anyone, thank David Hill !

    You can't get much closer "close ups" than those shots towards the end! Amazing video. I'm curious about the movements of the hairs on the male's leg: does it serve any known purpose or is it just a side effect of the spider's excitement, a spider equivalent of goose bumps or something?

    • @Peacockspiderman
      @Peacockspiderman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Glad you like it. Yes, I think the movement of the setae is just a side effect, I cant think of anything for what it may be useful. It must be the result of increase in pressure inside the body
