    I like how he dances across the leaf, under it, and comes up on the other side! His rhythm is great and the white tips on his graceful hands are mesmerizing. I could fall for this spider.

      There's a reason for that pause; if she doesn't like him, she will attack him, sometimes eating him, too.

    I've always been an "animal guy", having this universal love for all animals, and living out on the farm has done nothing but foster this even more. Spiders, although very cool and fascinating, I'll admit have never been at the top of my list of creatures I love. _However_ watching your videos (yes, I just binge watched them all), I'm going to pay a lot more attention to the little guys! We have nothing so brilliant in the spider families here where I live, but I'm sure that there's more to them than I've ever given credit.
    Thank you so much for this absolutely incredible footage!

    I watched a short video on the dodo about peacock spiders. I'm surprised I've never heard of them before. Everybody on earth should know about peacock spiders. I looked on the search engine Google and learned that 2 New species of peacock spiders were discovered in Australia… I can hardly wait until you can film their mating ritual dance! The real video was so short, but the music that accompanies it was perfect! Your videos illustrate how difficult it is to film them. They are so small and I was surprised at their ability to jump so far! I can tell that this is a labor of love for you, and I am thankful that you were willing to share your results with the rest of the world! God bless you and the laborers that you do for the edification of us all!😇🙉🙊🙈👍🏾

    • @Peacockspiderman
      @Peacockspiderman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carolyn, most of the 60 named species of peacock spiders were discovered just in the last few years and most of these have been named by myself and my friend David Hill. It's been a lot of work, but well worth it. I am not quite sure which the videos are you refer to. There are quite a few companies that take my material from TH-cam and then produce some "funny" versions of it.

    • @carolynnunes3922
      @carolynnunes3922 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peacockspiderman i'm really gratified and pleased that you took the time to comment on my comment! As you can see, I do love to learn, so when I saw the initial video on the dodo (which my stupid iPhone 6 microphone always interprets as "dildo," so I corrected that on my prior comment)...I appreciated your video so much more. It's real life, with all the background noises of the animals where you were videotaping-it shows the difficulty it takes in filming those little jumpers, my! But they sure can jump really far, and they're really small! You have now got me hooked! I will endeavor to watch every video you've made, and I have already used up all the funds that I set aside for donations for this month, but I would love to donate to your cause at the end of August! I can see that you're passionate about your work, and I am delighted to make the acquaintance of these peacock spiders, and of yourself, sir!👍🏾😇🙈🙊🙉

    • @carolynnunes3922
      @carolynnunes3922 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peacockspiderman oh, it was only about 40 seconds long, and it was one mail on the leaf with a female at the end of the video, and they used some salsa music which was a great accompaniment to his dance...I then watched a Beyoncé song, "Single Ladies," and a Taylor Swift one but I'm almost 60, so that music I can't really relate to, although I must admit I had never heard "single ladies," before, yet that one line, "if you liked it you should've put a ring on it" was stuck in my head for the rest of the day...I far prefer your videos. They are intense, and the effort taken to made them is much better appreciated in its natural setting, rather than being made to be "amusing." For entertainment hungry people, who have short attention spans, seeing the dodo do a "quickie,"well hopefully get you some notoriety that you were so richly deserve!😇👍🏾🙊🙈🙉

Yes, Single Ladies, YMCA, and all kinds of other songs have been used in combination with my videos.

    • @Peacockspiderman
      @Peacockspiderman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Darcy McClelland Hi Darcy, yes there is a strand of silk and it is the first time I captured this on video. However, this happens every time a jumping spider jumps. They attach a thread to the surface prior to jumping. It is a safety line, when the jump doesn't end up where it should and the spider misses its target it can simply crawl up again

    Fascinating as always Otto! The males of this species are as pretty as the others and have some very vigorous moves in their repertoire! I liked the natural sounds without music (but like music too)... I'm just putting in my 2 cents after everyone else's. But honestly, it's the dance that I notice most, not the sounds. And good too to see those last moments of the two dances you showed, the intimate part that's almost like a cuddle. The male still takes things very slow and cautiously, no doubt watching the female's body language very closely to make sure the evening's going OK... with these guys a bad date can be a VERY bad thing :-) BTW I live in Melbourne and used to see (what I presume to be) Peacock Spiders here but haven't seen any in years. The males had very similar colouration to these and had a very rectangular-shaped abdomen. Do you know what they might have been?

    Have you thought about doing an instructional video on how you do this type of photography?

      you mean how to film them ? I might do one down the track, but really it is quite straight forward. I just press the button, try to keep the camera still and try to keep up with the spiders at the same time.

      I was thinking of an instructional video along the lines of the type of equipment you use to film these spiders. Like what lens you use, close up attachments, camera stability equipment needed to stabilize the camera to get such smooth shots and such. The "how and what" you use to film in the conditions these spiders live in would be helpful. Also, it would be very interesting to see how you film these spiders as they move and jump around. Very nice work though.
