Despite how Dark Fate was received, Gabriel Luna's performance as Rev-9 was undoubtedly amazing. If Arnold ever gets tired of coming back for more of these movies than I hope Luna would be willing to come back instead. They could always write him as a reprogrammed Rev-9 sent to protect Dani like how they did with the original terminator and seeing how good of an infiltrator he was it would be interesting to see him as a hero in the future.

As a lifelong fan of the Terminator franchise (I watched it in theaters when the first Terminator came out), Dark Fate killed the franchise. Rev-9 is an amazing villain that is kneecapped to make the female "heroes" look good. Rev 9 loses almost every battle with them. Some argue, "well if it were realistic, they would have no chance". THAT'S THE POINT OF TERMINATOR! Look back at all the best Terminator movies. It was one very undergunned and hopeless hero vs an unstoppable killing machine. The Terminators are not something to pick a fight with and win. They are things you avoid, and barely survive, or flat out lose. The only way to beat these machine is to exploit a design weakness, or trick them for a Hail Mary tactic. The whole concept of Terminator was AVOIDING an inevitable apocalypse. The underlining human concept in storytelling that makes this franchise universal is humans cheating death and appreciating their lives for the borrowed time they received. Dark Fate craps on all the previous movies, AND turns the REV-9 (a far superior model than any before it) into a sparring partner than a monster way out your league. Imagine it like this. You have never fought in Mixed Martial Arts. All of a sudden, you are kidnapped and thrown in an underground MMA ring to fight a Elite MMA fighter to the death. Now what if I told you this MMA fighter was banned from the world stage because he was way overpowered in the ring against ANYONE. A match like that shouldn't look like on even terms. You should be running for your life around that ring and looking for ANY WAY to survive, even cheat to avoid fighting this monster on it's own terms. Great heroes are defined by how they overcome their villians. Make a villian weak and beatable, makes the hero journey predictable and underwhelming. Make a Villian terrifyingly unstoppable, and you keep the audience guessing how the hero will overcome the odds, and better yet, a real sense the hero can actually lose.

I don't think it's fair to say the Rev 9 is worse because he loses almost every battle. Pretty much every battle with the Rev 9 consists of the protagonists trying to haul ass away from him, with Grace and/or Carl only managing to slow him down enough for the protagonists to get away, which is what makes him "lose", but it's made clear that if the Rev 9 weren't so focused on killing Dani, he would have very little problem taking down Grace, Sarah and Carl.
If that sounds familiar, it's exactly how it was with the T-800 and T-1000 in Terminators 1 and 2. The T-1000 also "loses" every battle because they manage to get away from him and same with the T-800 in T1.

Honestly, most people think that this terminator model wasnt threatening because he didn't look intimidating like T-800 or T-1000, but I completely disagree. It is really menacing since he is able to separate into 2 parts, which gives him more advantage in combat, he has increased speed and strenght, and, worst of all, hes able to express human emotions in order to mix up with the humans, something that almost none of the previous terminators could do. Yes, he is kind a copy-paste of the T-1000, and is not the best terminator villain, BUT at least we should recognize that his abilities were cool (or at least in my point of view), and the fact that he does not look straightly intimidating is the point because thats what a terminator is supposed to do in order to avoid suspiction, creating paranoia until you dont know if the person who is disguising is really a human or a machine. Thats scary as hell. Also, it would not stop until it kills its target and is good in hand to hand combat. Even if he gets its ass beaten multiple times, it still demonstrates how resistent it is.
So, in summary, the Rev-9 is probably the most lethal and dangerous terminator model until date. It proves that not all villains look directly intimidating in order to be chilling or terrifying. He had a great potential, but sadly it got wasted and wasnt executed pretty well since its my favorite Terminator.

Exactly! What’s also terrifying is that he all those fights in the movie never actually damaged him, only hindered his objective. The times he was actually damaged was when he was thrown into the giant fan during the dam fight, and he still wasn’t dead. It was being stabbed in the head with the reactor and the explosion. I admire the idea of mixing up the endoskeleton with liquid metal. It has been done before in T3 when T-X was featured and now here in DF with Rev-9. My point is that people behind the franchise missed the opportunity to create an actual hybrid of T-800 and T-1000, because I love the idea of mixing up the two, so I hope that someday in the future T-800/T-1000 hybrid will appear. It should've been featured a long time ago in T3. In some ways T-X and Rev-9 are hybrids of the two cyborgs but slightly modified, so they're technically a fusion of the two but not quite like because T-X has a different type of endo and Rev-9 was manifactured in the other company/factory.

What would be the point in mixing the T-800 with the T-1000 when the T-X is already that but better since it was made to terminate other terminators and also mixing both of those will still be a downgrade to the T-X Bc one plasma blast from the T-X will destroy the T-800 and T-1000 mix Bc the T-800 endo is weak which is why the T-850 was made and the T-1000 will just get shitted on also sure the T-X had a different endo but they had to upgrade it anyway

If you said the T-850 mixed with the T-1000 then maybe I would’ve agreed with you, but the T-800 is just to weak against the T-X since it has no weapon built in unlike the T-X, for the T-1000 considering it can be easily disabled by high temperatures acid or nitrogen, as shown in the movies I don’t see how it can handle a T-X since the T-X has a lot of weapons but her plasma gun is probably enough to kill or at least immobilize the T-1000 with 1 shot, she can always just shot at it more if it doesn’t go down as well lol, so mixing both machines sounds like a good idea yes, however what would be the point when, again the T-X is basically that but even better than both of them, also she was made to terminate the other terminators like I said earlier.
Edit: to answer what you said about then better infiltrating until I think that the T-1000 is better than both the T-800 and T-X but the T-X can basically do the same thing like the T-1000 so it not much of a difference.

Love the scary look of the endoskeleton and that it has acrobatic skills but the whole splitting thing wasn't executed well. It could have been a good basis for interesting fights, but the Rev-9 never used it when it would have been a real advantage (for example in the factory). It splitted way to random.

    • @LordFindogask734
      @LordFindogask734 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Agreed. I also think that he could have used his acrobatic skills more, for instance when he has to face Carl. As soon as he recognizes that the T-800 is a heavier and stronger terminator I can imagine the Rev9 performing as many stunts trying to dodge the devastating attacks of Carl. To me, that's the Rev9 in a nutshell: a build that compensates the partial lack in strength (compared to previous terminators at least) with insane agility and durability, which allow him to outlast most of his opponents or to simply tire them down.

As the other comments cited, the Rev-9 was probably the most capable infiltrator due to its ability to not just disguise but fit into human social norms, eg. conversing and making facial expressions, lacking the awkwardness of the other Terminators. It would be interesting if it used its 2 forms to mimic 2 humans , so that when the heroes expose one, the other backstabs them.

Legion Terminators were generally less powerful than Skynet Terminators. Faster, trickier, but less sheer force and durability.
For example, the T1000 was made out of a Polymetallic Alloy. The Rav-9 had a carbon based nanomachine skin. It's liquid components were lighter but less powerful. When the Rav's liquid bits were shot they basically went splat and it required an internal frame for long term functionality. The T-1000 was a completely independent, fully functional nanomachine colony.
The T800 was made of Hyperalloy while the RAV9 was made of carbon fiber. The Rav was lighter and faster but in the future war was killed using projectile weapons that could be fired by unaugmented humans (she didn't get her augments until after that scene). The terminators were designed to take direct hits from plasma weapons and it took a direct hit to a weak point with an exotic round from a .50bmg anti-material rifle to put one down. Also, you'll notice Carl basically beat the Rav 5 like a drum in every single close encounter. It was only the fact the RAV could pull magic tricks out its ass that permitted it to not get ripped in half by an old, worn out T800.

Honestly the Rev-9 is one of my favorite terminator models out of them all. It’s the most convincing, is able to do things that are quite impressive, and honestly if it had been given the abilities of the TX and a more similar kind of Liquid Metal like the T-1000, it would have made this model the most powerful terminator of all. AND with it’s ability to split, it would have actually made the threat level far stronger. I also like to think that it’s ability to split means it has Dual CPU’s. One for the endo and the second for the liquid system. When combined they operate as one Dual processor system but apart they are able to act independently while remaining linked.

The Rev-9’s true method of infiltration was that it kept switching its language, accent, and social approach in different situations, while in the physical form of a brown-skinned Latino man traveling between Mexico and Texas. (Notice how it went totally good-old-boy when it saw those white Texas state troopers in cowboy hats, outside the CBP detention facility.) The actor was so charming, he's the perfect Terminator in terms of not being suspect.

the fights between T800 and T1000 were far more impressive than this, while the movie is over 30 years old ...

I thought Rev-9 was a great villain . It was advanced or even more advanced than T-1000 and it could infiltrate and blend in . I liked Terminator Dark Fate.
Gabriel Luna was awesome as Rev-9 .

This thing and the actor’s portrayal of it, are the only reason to watch this film. They’re genuinely great

Perfect this machine, it is a mix of deadpool, mystic and mutant rex, without a doubt one of the most powerful if not the most that the future could send to kill the one that is a real threat to the legion's future plans. but it's that thing, right? if it weren't for the grace and the t-800 that are the duality of the rev-9 sent to protect the dani, I would certainly have done it!
