  • Dr Sharon Blackie is an award winning writer, psychologist and mythologist. She's the author of the best selling, If Women Rose Rooted and more recently, Hagitude: Reimagining The Second Half Of Life. I love both books. They completely re-envision how women fit in the world. Hagitude is a wonderful analysis of how women used to be in later life, before the modern era, and the inspiration we can take from that. Sharon is focused on the development of the mythic imagination, and on the relevance of myth, fairy tales and folk traditions to the personal, cultural and environmental problems that we face today.

    We talk about:
    - Why she wrote Hagitude
    - What is it about the hags and mythology that delights Sharon
    - Sharon’s favorite character, the Cailleach
    - What mythic imagination is
    - The things Sharon hates about how old women are currently presented
    - How the second half of life is about turning inwards
    - The importance of listening to your body
    - How if you don't stop, you don't make space for a new story to grow
    - What women can do to change the narratives of older women
    - The nature of an elder woman’s wisdom
    - Baba Yaga
    - The intersection of sexism and ageism in patriarchal religions
    - What Sharon discovered about herself by writing Hagitude
    And more!

Wonderful, I loved this conversation, honest and heart felt. I love the book " if woman rose rooted" , I recommend this book to other woman, its a must read. On a personal level im embracing my 49 years with letting my natural silver high lights in my hair come through. Its so important we stand in our personal power and love and guide other, its was always meant to be 💖🍃🌸

I recently ran across one of the first writing exercises I ever did . I was probably about six years old . The first sentence was " once there was a crazy old woman who lived in a shack in the woods . "
Just this month has been a year since my periods have stopped . I realize that ive been living my way toward the crazy woman in the woods all of my life . Almost there now 😂

I had the great pleasure of hearing Dr Blackie speak yesterday, i absolutely adore the way she approaches this with so much recognition of how different we all are and such immense knowledge of the stories that live in our bones.

I AM 80 yrs. , now. Not to sound “ mean spirit”, yet perhaps DR. BLACKIE COULD WRITE ANOTHER SEQUEL.
The very SAD picture of an older or old woman, “ LOOKING FOR LOVE, IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES”.
I have been their , I set myself for, to be exploited, every time.
I LEARNED , these last 38 years, to build myself, and LOVE AND
LIKE MYSELF, so scary and very painful.

It sounds like you should write the sequel. 🙂

The house on chicken legs and the witch were in an old Russian film of a fairy tale I saw on MST3K once, it was interesting to hear it in such a different context!

    BE VERY SMART , and
    VERY VIGILANT.
THIS SO-CALLED “ FREEDOM”, in this time period, is very DANGEROUS.

I THINK THE OLD BLACK CROWS,
“ CACKLING “, laughter is very appropriate, for
BACKGROUND NOISE, yet quite annoying in a podcasts or interview🙉🙊

    OH MY GOSH‼️
DID DR. BLACKE SAY” SUPPOSE TO”‼️‼️
    NO😱‼️
    COULD OF
    SHOULD OF
    HAVE TO
    SUPPOSE TO.
THAT DOES NOT SOUND , like “
    FREEDOM”.
Back to basics , DR. BLACKE🤗🙊🍀‼️.

      APOLOGIES,
      I miss spelled YOUR NAME.
      DR. BLACKIE. So sorry.
I am going BLIND, macular degeneration. Sometimes , we all just really knows what lies awaits, in our “ freedom”.
      😏

I think , it is really nice, if a middle age woman or even very old , to just be content to make an apple pie, or rock a GRANDCHILD. These are just so needed , especially in this world. 😉😌.😏🤗🙏🌻🌷🫶
