  • This is the third workbench from Harbor Freight I have modified. For the price there is not another workbench that comes close. With a couple of pieces of plywood and some scape boards this becomes an awesome workbench.

    When a video is as informative and nicely produced as this one I have no problem staying with it to the end.
    I know I wouldn't have the patience to produce something like this. It must take twice as long to get this project done with all the camera setups, to say nothing about the editing and voice over after you finish. Thanks for taking the time.

      I build one in a day, not filming. This one took two weeks. I ended up with 20 hours of video. After several attempts to get it edited and beingdisappointed, I almost deleted it all. I am glad it is not as bad as I thought it was.

    I too watched to the end. I ❤ the drawer bottoms. If you have an easy way to plug holes, with the vacuum attachment to the top you could put your work piece on top and see if there’s enough suction to hold the work piece.

    Finished. I bought one of these HF Workbenches and modified it by beefing up the top and legs, eliminating the drawers (repurposed them elsewhere) added 2x10 stringers and raised the bottom shelf making it a drop in. My purpose was to make a very sturdy but portable workbench. Once I remove the locking pegs from the stringers the whole bench can be broken down into easily lifted components for transport. I also added a second vise and drilled more dog holes as needed.

    You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

    Great Job I am planning on a Harbor Freight wood bench, it is the best deal they have. • @ShopRamblings
      @ShopRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to get up the courage you just need to start. There are no mistakes as long as you have all your body parts when finished. I have made so many cuts shorter than intended. If I worried about them, I would not ever build anything. I try to cut my bigger parts first. That way, if they don't fit, I can use them to cut the smaller pieces from. If I don't have another piece big enough, I will glue it back together. A good glue joint can be stronger than solid wood. If you do run into a problem, email me. I will be glad to help.

    • @ShopRamblings
      @ShopRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I used the legs. There was not much left. I could have been about the same price depending on how much you pay for the wood. If you buy hardwood from a box store, it would cost you a lot more. It saves a lot of time not having to do glue ups. You also don't have to do everything at once. With my first table I put together because I needed a table fast. When I had time, I modified it to work better for me.

      They rebranded the old 48in multipurpose workbench with pegboard to Yukon. Upgraded hardware, l.e.d light etc... I bought two and put them together, I used plywood on the top instead of the mdf. Solid as a rock! Accommodates my vise and bench grinder perfectly. I used the mdf for the bottom shelves and they’re solid too. I’m not a huge woodworker and these have too many dog holes for what I do, also the drawers are bigger than the multipurpose but terrible quality.

    • @ShopRamblings
      @ShopRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use my tool but try to take care of them. The first cut I made with my track saw I hit one of the screws on the side of the table. I put Danish oil on my tables and waxed them. With the hard wood, I can scrap off dry glue. Once the tops get in rough shape, I will sand them down and re-apply. I would not call mine sacrificial, but they do get abused.
      Send me some pictures when you get done. I would love to see how yours comes out.

      I have two other tables with the vice. There are different needs for different tables. That is why I like to modify them.

    I made it all the way❤ a lot of good pointers in this video, I never considered making all my tables the same height, but what a difference this makes. But a lot of great info, thank you. I have it on my save list so I can go back and pick out m more detailed info.

      Having a small shop it comes in handy have everything the same height. When cutting long boards at the miter saw, I can tilt the saw where long boards will rest on the table saw.

    Watched to end very nice work bench and lot of neat tricks with the drawers also

    • @ShopRamblings
      @ShopRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      To buy heavy-duty slides for 12 drawers, you could easily spend more than the cost of the table. Not only is it economical, but it works great. Be sure to wax the grooves. If you make cutting boards, board butter work well.

    Yes i watched the whole thing.
    It looks good and probably works good its almost a downdraft sanding station with a added raised top you attach with the dog holes you could hook up a dust collection system and have a really nice sanding table with downdraft collection.

    • @ShopRamblings
      @ShopRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking of trying that, but with the sander I have, the dust collection is so good I don't need it.

    I watched the whole thing and I loved it. There’s a lot of good information in this that I will be using when I build my own work bench from scratch with mortise and tenon but the draws are going to be construction just like this. Keep up the great work and keep the video’s coming 😊
