They call them velcro viszlas because of thier affection, I've had 2 viszlas they are awesome dogs
I just rescued my Viszla 3 weeks ago after finding him in the bushes next to a busy hwy. He was skin and bones, had fleas galore and his eyes were cross-eyed and rolled back in his head. I have never seen a puppy with ribs like that. I bought him home, gave him a nice warm bath, fed him food and gave him water and he just changed into a little hyper ball of love and energy. It looks like he was dumped so, I'm trying my best to research on what his breed could be and Hungarian Vizsla is top on the list. I'm happy I found him, if I didn't give him a happy home, I don't think he would have survived much longer out on the streets. Many people get to choose a puppy and buy one but mine was free. I didn't choose him.. He chose me to be his human. I'm grateful he did!! He's my furever Friend. And he's growing and becoming a healthy, handsome blue eyed Vizsla. 🐕💙🐶 His name is Bentley.

@@TheFirstAmendment Thanks for confirming that! 🙏His eyes are sky blue 💙 We just found out he's mixed with Vizsla, Weimaraner, Great Dane, Bloodhound and Beagle. He's been a handful and so active. Definitely a hunting dog.
It's not true. According to the breed standard, the eyes must harmonize with the coat color. Dark brown eyes are preferred.

I took my friends Vizsla for a walk and he all of a sudden froze and I couldn't get him to move. I thought he was having a seizure. She said look under that parked car he was pointing at a cat! LOL
Everything you said in the video is so true. I just lost my Visla named Shadow a couple weeks ago from old age. Had her for 12 yrs and she was the best dog I ever had.. When I'm ready for another dog I will definitely get another visla. I'm so hooked on this breed of dog.. Every video I see of a Visla reminds me of my girl Shadow.
Vizsla’s are great family dogs. Looks like you did your homework and are doing everything your V needs. My daughter lives in Texas. She breeds Vizslas. Her kennel is FezentRun Vizslas. Her V’s do it all. Obedience, conformation, fast cat, barnhunt,agility etc.. Vizslas are wonderful!
Man really wish I had my girl as a puppy again. We very much made her into a hard working, people loving lazy dog. Training is super important the second around they are just over 2 months (normally the time they can be brought away from mom) because the more they train as puppies the more they will listen as rebellious teens. Not going to lie that time is wild and not the best time to everyone. Be patient with your dogs and appreciate them like they appreciate you.
Because Homer is a Vizsla, he'll forgive you for calling him a dog. V owners understand what I mean.

Our Vizsla Fynn is now 15 weeks old and I can agree with every sentence in this video. He is so smart and sometimes it is unbelievable how fast he learns.
The only point which drives us a little bit crazy it seems there is a verry small border between underwhelmed and overwhelmed. In both cases the "mouth activity" increases a lot. When we found the middle he is extremly relaxed.
My Vizsla is 18 months going on 6 months; energy overload. LOL His name is Dutch and he is a sweetheart. It's true, Vizslas are very sensitive. If you scold them, you can tell by their body language and express on their face that they are upset. I find being very positive with plenty of treats has worked wonders in training Dutch. He gets a minimum of 2 hours exercise per day. 1 hour power walk early in the morning (6:00 or 6:30 am) and 1 good hour at the dog park (over lunch - I work from home). If we don't get go for a walk and only a dog park visit he gets a little anxious. If he gets no exercise in the course of a day, oh boy, he becomes very squirrely and frustrated, and will get into mischief. So for his sanity and mine, I make sure he gets his exercise. Sometimes we will go for a 20 minute walk in the evenings before we go to bed as an extra bonus. They call them "velcro dogs" for a reason, they are. They will follow you into every room; they just love being with you. Because they are sensitive they need attention from you. Example, if you are reading or washing the dishes and your Vizsla walks up to you, make sure you give them at least one nice petting stroke. They just want to know you still love them and recognize their presence. Thank you for this video of Homer; Dutch and I enjoyed watching it. Yes, Dutch actually was watching Homer make his little noises. LOL
Great vlog, I have two Vizsla. When we got our first 6 years ago, I swore I would never get another. She drove us crazy the first year. By the end of the second year, we added a male Vizsla. They are amazing and all the points you made are valid. My female took well to crate training and sleeping on her own. My male not so much. He lets us sleep in his king size bed with him 😂
I lost my baby boy, Lucky, earlier this year. He was a birthday gift 13 years ago. I miss him every day. That said, the breed is not great for everyone. He was super high energy until the week he passed. They are prone to OCD. Your Homer is so much like my Lucky!
Homer looks so much like our Zolly, a 5 months old Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla. Very cute and smart! I also get loads of compliments wherever we go, people adore him. Not sure if $1,800 is meant to be a lot - we paid £3,000 here in England for our puppy which is about $4,150 - that's a normal price for puppies these days here. Careful with over-exercising your puppy. He shouldn't go for too long walks. He'll take whatever you throw at him but by taking him for an hour-long walks at this age you're just raising a super athlete who will demand more and more as he grows. Are you ready for 2-3 hours long daily walks in a year's time? Zolly gets 30 mins in the morning, then 45 in the evening, with plenty of stimulation during the day and that's just enough for him. If the weather is rubbish and we don't feel like going out, he's happy to skip walks on that day. But he is a wirehaired and they are much calmer than smooth vizslas. Anyways, Homer is a beautiful puppy, you're doing great with his training.
Vizsla are very affectionate and smart. Ours loves her walks but on a rainy day quite happy to stay in and snoooze on sofa, but at night she loves her crate which we have covered with big blanket to make it cosy den like took off the door and she’s happy to sleep in there, or just lie in for some quite time.
We did the 5 mins per month exercise but think that means lead walking , but playing in garden she tired herself out with 10/15 minute training sessions and just sniffing round the garden.
She’s such a good girl , recall good and always positive training gentle talking and she’s responded well

WARNING... As a seasoned dog owner of 50 years with several breeds I would warn any potential vislza owner that these are the hardest dog I have ever owned to deal with. The pup shown here is much calmer and lower energy than the one I have. I'm sure they are all different. Mine is 5.5 months old and has been a real challenge. She is strong willed, very busy and is always ripping things apart. Fun and action are more important than anything. She never stops ripping things up and wants constant action. High energy is an understatement. I have 30 acres and she can run loose. She smashes through the brush following a scent at full speed with no care about being hurt. She she can bounce off a tree at 40 miles an hour without being hurt. If she hit a person at that speed person would be seriously injured. If you don't have a huge back yard DON"T even think about a viszla. They are a hunting dog. They look cute and are affectionate, when they rarely slow down, but they are not an ideal house dog. As a hunting dog my visla is amazing. She is rabbit, bird and squirrels crazy. She is frightened of going out at night for racoons and coyotes but I hope that will change with age. Where I live Yotes are plentiful One reason I got a viszla is for the speed to keep a safe distance from them. In that regard I am more than happy with my choice. She can out run a horse. She is a close hunter rarely going more than 400 feet from me. I like that. When I whistle she's at my side in seconds.
@@marco21falcon How many vizslas have you raised from a pup? As a follow-up my dog is 1.5 years old now. She is one of the best dogs I have ever owned. Started to settle at one year. She still needs several hours of running a day but she will relax in the house if she gets that. She points game, retrieves and brings in the paper from the end of our long laneway. I can call her off game easily and never attacks skunks or porcupines and lives peacefully with a cat, my chickens, pigeons and grumpy old terrier. I stand by everything I said in my earlier post. Don't take a chance on a viszla if you don't want a dog like that. Sure you may get one. Ask the breeder what to expect from the line they have. Mine came from the top hunting and show lines in the USA. Right now she has her 55 pound body curled up on my lap as I sip my coffee. We will be out for the first of our 2 mile daily hikes walks as soon as I'm done.
Sounds like she needs more mental stimulation, you can't tire them out with physical exercise, you just create an athlete that is always restless and bored. Ours is 7 months and we train 2-3 times a day with kibble, use puzzle toys, train calmness like stay, place, and settle. I get her to stay in place, hide treats around the house, then release her to sniff them out for 10 minutes. After that, calm for the evening. When I'm cooking, she stays in place for 30 minutes just hanging out with me near the kitchen. If you give them a job to do, they are wonderful dogs. If you let them do what they want and just run wild and crazy then yes they will be wild and crazy dogs. 🤪
@@RawrPokemonRawr You are right, our visla is a high demand animal for mental stimulation. Some dog owners aren't prepared for that much work with a dog. Some breeds are easier to deal with. Viszlas aren't. Our visla is very hard headed. She will not do anything if you 'demand' she do it. She has to 'want' to do it. I've owned 2 rottweilers and they respond well to demands. My post is to give folks who don't know this fair warning. It is a shame when a dog is mis-matched with a family just because they like the looks of a dog.

Wonderful---loving and very smart dogs---I was fortunate enough to spend 9 years taking care of 5 Vizsla's and I fell in love with each of them---5 at a time will keep you are your toes----mind pretty well considering they had previous training and all wanted to be lap dogs----Would not change my experience or time with them for anything
Vizsla's are awesome dogs. I've never owned one, but my roommate at the time had one. Unfortunately, the roommate would lock him in his room all day while he was at work. It annoyed me, so when I was home and the roommate wasn't, I'd take him into the backyard for an hour or so while I grilled dinner or whatever and just play with him until the roommate got home to take him for jogs. Too much energy for me to handle, but an all around awesome breed.
This is a perfect video for such dog.. the good and the realistic too. But yea, super long hikes while they're still baby, even if they can handle it. It's not great for their joints that still haven't matured yet.. but still good job on taking care of his needs and training!!!
We have a 4 month old livernose Rodesian Ridgeback that looks exactly like him other than the ridge, tail, and white markings. She's also 43 lbs

Felt like watching my own dogs movie. Well done n give 100 out 100 for correct information. They love to be with u all the time . N my dog talk to me all the time he was vegetarian n enjoyed whatever I was eating which vegetarian food too. I think that’s why he lived almost healthy 16 yrs in 5 months. He would been 16 yrs. . Died just like that . No other illnesses ever

Good video our Vizsla was great but had diseases many have like epilepsy but he also had recurrent staph infections and sadly put him to sleep because of prostate cancer. In the 70's there were get to know books and in the get to know your vizsla his mother and uncle were I believe featured.. His name was Son of A Gun .. Also note the webbed type paws as they are excellent swimmers. Although they are about 30 out of 50 in intelligence Son of A Gun was either very smart or not quite as he never learned to play fetch no matter frisbee, ball, or stick.. you throw it.. he get it and run and you have to catch him..lol
We have two vizslas! Best dogs we have ever had! Simple commands , they are very obedient. We took our 3 and 1 year old blue grouse hunting, they are natural bird hunters. Crate training was easy for us. Males seemed easier. You are so right about exercise! Good luck! We are already planning a third!
You have a very lovely V-dog. Nice to see him running around. Our puppy Tesla is 3 month and that is a perpetuum mobile. ))) Only one thing. Due to the incomplete development of the paws, Vizsla puppies cannot walk a lot. Only 5 minutes per month. That means at 4 months they can walk for about of 20 minutes per time.
Homer is super cute! Though I think if anything you’re doing too much walking - he’s still a very young puppy and his joints are still developing. The rule is generally 5 minutes per month per day. My vizsla pup doesn’t tire if I do one hour or five hours exercise, so I tire her out with brain games and trick training
You're right. Honestly, we haven't been consistent walking Homer daily so hopefully balances itself out. Thank you for the kind comments and helpful feedback.

Lol my 4month vizsla boy needs at least 2 miles walk 2 maybe 3 times a day or he will be bouncing over my house
@@kytaylor457 just had my 13 month old Vizslas elbow sprained from a long hike so I would be more cautious when their joints are developing.. try puzzles, training and brain games it tries them out so fast
My Vizsla is named Daisy. She has a lot of energy and wakes me up at 4AM to walk her. Daisy can run like the wind and throw the ball.

Congratulation. I am hungarian but I very rarely hear the correct pronunciation of vizsla in English videos. Yeah I know. You don't have "zs", so it's hard to learn. That's why it's a nice achievement.
You can get Viszlas in Hungary, Romania or Serbia for 100 dollars, with all vaccines and papers... Its great dog. They use them for hunting here in the region... They are killing you guys with those prizes
From some underclass breeders maybe. We paid ~650 dollars in 2020 for our little boy (Hungary, professonal breeder). But after a year that price is dwarfed by the other costs (food, toys, vaccines, accessories etc.). Still the best investment in my life.
In US it will cost you way more that $100 a month for just proper fresh food for a dog so you comparing prices between totally different countries is like comparing apples to oranges.

Where did you get your black crate? Recommend?
I can't remember where my wife got it, but I would NOT recommend. At first, it looked ok in the living room, like a side table next to the couch. The crate has very little openings for the dog. They're pretty much in a box. Once the crate is put together, there's no easy option to collapse if you need to remove it for parties. It's in the mudroom with a bunch of stuff stored in it 😂 I think this is a better and more flexible option. Cozy it up with cushion and blankets. Your pooch will be happier because they can see you.

I have a wiermer he actually like your puppy look and experience but he is chocolate
4 months old is too young for 5 mile hikes, his bones and joints are growing rapidly. Save the long hikes until he is well over a year old
We certainly were not taking him on daily 5m hikes. The rule of thumb is 5 minutes per puppy month age. Thanks for watching.
Nope there is no problem i walk every day for about 10 kilometer. Thats no problem.

I got my boy back in sept 21, viszla..we got him at 9 weeks for $1500, $1800 for an older viszla puppy is a bit of a RIP off...cute puppy though
