geez Max your story sounds alot like mine in my younger days, i'm now 44yrs old but didn't realize there are so many people with this condition, problem for me is even talking about it, very embarrassed and ashamed about it. problem has got slowly worse as i got older to the point where i struggle to enjoy myself when i go out socializing, to busy worrying where and how i am going to relieve myself. now i have reached a point where i can't live like this anymore, but now after seeing your video and some others i'm going do talk to my doctor. cheers

Hey boss, I know this video is almost ten years old, when I first saw it, it was in 2012, for a long time I couldn’t get the breath hold to work for me, but then I’m 2019 I gave it another shot. And the breath hold works for me now 100% so thank you.

I've never met anyone else with this aside from the videos on youtube. I have had shy bladder since I was 4 and have lucked up being able to find a bathroom for the past 18 years of my conscious life. There are no groups around me that help with this if there are it's deep in a city, hours away. Its not a fear because I usually luck up and find a bathroom with no one around. To me it's really a conscious thing and holding my breath isn't comfortable enough for my brain cells. I just cope with life as is, try to live alone. I live in an ignorant area where people literally don't believe this can exist.

see www.paruresis.org and the talk forum. This can be greatly improved with graduated exposure, support groups and CBT.

The breath hold is awesome. My job requires random drug tests from time to time. The next time I have to pee in a cup while someone stands there and waits for me to do it ... I am confident that it will not be a problem at all. I wish I would have learned it 40 years ago.

wow, succeeding in at a concert after a few beers would be a dream come true. Been trying the breath hold on and off for a few months now, just can't seem to even nail it at home. It's like I can't push myself a few seconds beyond the gasping for air feeling - sounds silly I know but it's hard!

  • @KB-vv8gr

I'm really trying to go all in on this breathhold right now, for now on, even if I'm alone by myself at home, I'm going to hold my breath every time I try to go.

Hey, i'm 17 years old from the UK, i'm in my second year at college, but my shy bladder has affected me massively especially in this past year because i'm becoming more sociable, going to parties go to different events, but the last party i went to i had to go home twice to pee which sounds ridiculous i know because i couldn't pee in the bathroom at the persons house, it also affects my day to day life at college, not been able to go.

mine is so intense that I have to find single occupant restrooms where I'm completely alone and can lock the door lol. It is so terrible every time I go to Disneyland I dread the urge to use the bathroom so I wont drink much water through out the times I'm out in crowded places :( a quiet oasis to pee is worth more than all the gold and silver in the world to me LOL

Mine is just as bad as that man..in disneyland, I try to use the companion restrooms...even though it feels a bit awkward..or the restroom at Tom Sawyers island..sometimes, it just makes me wish we had restrooms like japan, in which the stalls are totally private with almost no huge gaps.., I hope you can get through it man..

Paruresis has ruined my life. I have been close to suicide when my bladder is full. If it starts it doesn't stop for me. I cannot beat it.
I have had numerous urinary infections from urine retention from holding for hours upon hours.
I'm trying to remain positive.. but it's fucking hard.

      @@Red-xg2ym Hey! 👋
Thanks for asking, it got a lot worse and paired with some avoidance I went in to a really bad place for over a year, but I have been seeing a councillor, doing CBT and EMDR and I started some anxiety medication and it seems to be getting more manageable over the past few months
I'm hopeful for my future, I will be able to get back to normal life soon I hope!
Thanks again for asking, getting me to reflect on how far I have come in the last year!

@@TeaLeafThief have you tried getting a Catheter?

    • @TeaLeafThief
      @TeaLeafThief 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Red-xg2ym I was very close to it, but I mostly hid away from the problem for years, by the time I was getting it sorted I was tackling a lit of mental health problems in one go.
I had extreme panic response to public bathrooms and sometimes just public situations.
I think self catheterisation should be an absolute last resort, and while I certainly felt like I was never going to get better at a certain point a part of me held on to some hope that I would tackle the mental aspect of it eventually.
I hope you are doing OK, and I strongly suggest seeking professional help without shame. It might take you a while to find the right type of help (eg. CBT, trauma therapy, EMDR, general counseling) but once you find the key that fits it will make more sense.
Also check out the IPA (international paruresis association) because they are a big group of people with experience when it comes to paruresis from all around the world!
If they can't help you directly then they can point you in the right direction, or at the very least show you that you aren't alone tackling this debilitating issue.
Good luck, and feel free to talk to me here aswell if you are struggling!

remember, worst case scenario pretend you gotta poop, if the toilet is disgusting, cover it with 10 layers of toilet paper, people tend not to care how long you take when you poop.

I didn't even realize it, but suddenly it hit me, I was actually letting it flow after the movies, it all started after I go'ogled Beck Reznark's guide and felt something changed since, couldn't even remember the last time that happened lol
