- Completed the construction of two vintage style carpet bags designed for travel, featuring a historical aesthetic and employing vintage textiles. The pattern was personally designed, contributing to a comprehensive DIY venture.
Key highlights:
- Skill Acquisition: Acquired various crafting skills during the assembly process, expanding my repertoire significantly.
- Vintage Design: Incorporated vintage textiles to evoke a timeless aesthetic, emphasizing meticulous attention to detail.
- Strategic Packing Approach: Prioritized efficiency during travel by adopting a "personal item" strategy. Utilized classic carpet bag opening hardware to inform dimensions, strategically avoiding additional carry-on expenses.

History of Carpet Bags:
The carpet bag originated in the United States in the mid-1800s. It was initially designed as a practical and durable travel bag, made from heavy-duty carpet material. The bags were often created by repurposing worn-out or outdated carpets.
Carpet bags became associated with travel and adventure, symbolizing a sense of wanderlust and exploration. They were often seen in the hands of well-to-do travelers, especially women, who used them for extended trips or as luggage for train journeys.
Carpet bags were known for their spacious interiors and sturdy construction. They featured a frame made of wood or metal, which allowed the bag to maintain its shape even when empty. The bags often had a hinged opening and leather handles for easy carrying.
Over time, the design of carpet bags evolved. They became more refined and started incorporating different materials such as leather and textiles. Today, carpet bags are still used as stylish travel bags or fashion accessories, often featuring unique patterns and designs.
The history of carpet bags showcases their versatility, durability, and association with travel and fashion. Despite their origins in the 19th century, these bags continue to be appreciated for their timeless appeal and distinctive style.

For a new stitcher you did really well. I'm impressed.
Thank you much! Trying my best!
Oh I love this project, they turned out beautifully 😍
Thanks so much! 😊
Love your exploratory nature and steadfast determination to try new things.
I so appreciate that thank you!
What beautiful bags you have created! I loved the Union Station reveal as well. My brother used to order leather and supplies from Tandy Leather Co when he created leather belts and wallets in the 1970s.
I feel like so many have a connection to Tandy! Thank so much for watching and the kind compliment!
That was incredible! How clever you are :) Your choice of pattern and colour, especially the yellow/green one, was spot on!
Love that one! Thank you
OMGOSH Cade!! I absolutely ❤ this video!!! Brilliant work on the carpet bags and choice of fabric you used...I would classify these as heirloom pieces...😊
Awww that’s so sweet, thank you!
Very inspiring! Never occurred to me to try making bags like those. I love this idea! BTW Tandy has been around for decades. They used to have brick and mortar stores in the 70's. Every respectable hippie had something made of leather. 😁☮
Ha! Indeed! I remember dad making suede moccasins and other similar goods. We would occasionally stop in Tandy.
Appreciate the comment and for watching my video. Be well!
Awesome and soooooooo beautiful..Really appreciate the history of the carpet bag

Trying to work on smaller projects, but they still take so much work 😅. Thank you much as I know you know the attention it takes to complete these ideas. Always looking forward to your newest projects!
Very nice work! If you ever get the chance to buy a new/old machine look for a vintage Bernina. Game changer!
Great video. Tu

Inspiring and creative! I love them!❤
My mother tried teaching me to sew when I was young but on my first try the needle broke and hit me in the eye. Sadly that was it for me!
Oh my! Hand sewing is, mostly, safer. I get hesitation after something like that happening too. I call it being risk adverse. Take care and thank you!
@@CADEmade I love to hand sew and have a few projects in the making! ❤
Wow! Is there anything you can't do??
Lol… I always say I can’t do Math… anything beyond simple addition and subtraction division. 😂 thank you much
