Honestly in the first rounds, if Jack just went on that Edison was the sheriff and killed himself, and they called the emergency meeting before he could report the body, he could've pulled it off.

I think he remembered that he believed Leslie was sheriff and changed his mind about Rae. Cause after he started explaining his theory that Leslie got herself, and there was actually a double kill that round and Rae was lying about getting an imposter. Then when they didn’t go for the double kill (which I think was the plan) he second guessed and thought Rae was being honest.
