I live in Mexico and have had both the aircooled german models (a 72 baywindow) and later i had a 94 water cooled with the 1.8 jetta engine. Its day and night with the watercooled buses, you can actually get up to highway speed and accelerate like a normal modern car (At least by 1990s standar) It was a weird experience because its a bus and the handling still feels like a 70s bus but you have a lot more power, almost feels unnatural. Sadly i blew the engine on the 94 and i was broke and in university so i sold it and have always regret it.
Air conditioning? Or was it heat only?
Do you still have it?
This seams like a very nice Bus , not much input on your part though , how does the power compare to a German powered air cooled engine ?
