is the healed lion just a super bad picture or did it really lose that much colour during healing? it looks like it has been in the sun for 20 years straight.... none of my tattoos brightened up anything like that, not even close

I actually really wanted to see an serious break down of what made the back tattoo so awful. The layered rant just seemed more insulting and less of a criticism because you have to listen really heard to distinguish what's being said.
I'm not super experienced with tattoos themselves but that one backpiece really has nothing going for it even if it was drawn on any medium other than skin. I think Pony did that layered thing so he wouldn't talk shit all over the place since the thing is absolutely bad. Everything, from the composition which looks like it's supposed to be symmetrical but is way off, through the use of values and the lines is just done extremely poorly... Unfortunate for the guy wearing it

I think that you shouldn't critique American Traditional or Old School Tattoos anymore. It's obvious that you're embittered by older, more experienced tattooers whose tattoos have stood the test of time for saying that micro, black and gray realism tattoos won't hold up--I've studied enough, been to enough conventions and talked to enough artists to know that is that they are saying. I have a picture of an Old School tattoo done in 1963 that has retained it's color and is still perfectly readable after almost 60 years. The new style of tattooing hasn't been around long enough for to you be able to prove they will indeed look great in 10-20 years. Good bye Pony, I'm not going to watch you bash tattoo styles you don't favor.

I loved that one, you can’t really tell what all is going on but I feel like it works for the style. I thought it looked cool!
