I found a very similar one from 1939 made in Germany with the foot belt. I managed to get things turning again but the belt just will not grip so I am looking to convert it to a hand crank machine...

ssi1991 go to music instrument shop, where they sell violins, and ask for rosin. Say Rozin. Probably available online. It’s a tree resin block, and puts a tacky residue put on the bow hair, to grip the strings, needed to make a sound. Gymnasts and weight lifters, rock climbers also use it in powder form. It will also help your band to grip. Rub the block along the inner surface of the band. String players rub it on bows before playing, most every time. Get a build up. Check too that your wheels aren’t greasy or slippy? And check whether it’s the right tension, but not too tight either.

Yes. Just attach belt of wheel (of lower part) to the wheel of machine (top part). You can also use an electric motor to run it.

vintage singer around $200-350 on ebay.....or $25-30 new on alibaba "butterfly sewing machine". 1 billion people in the world don't have access to reliable supply of electricity so they still make and sell these!

it simply means ur thread isn't inserted correctly from the point where you start inserting threat to inserting through the needle. the thread has order of being inserted.

The upper thread tension may be too loose. Make sure the thread is well-seated in between the tension disks.
