Cardigan Bay - Pacer Supreme Enjoys Retirement

Philip Leishman made the trip to Puketutu Island in Auckland to visit Cardigan Bay. Sadly, this great horse passed away the following year in 1988.
He was laid to rest within the grounds of Alexandra Park in Auckland, the venue of some of his victories including the 1963 Auckland Cup where he started from 78 yards behind.
He won 80 races in his career and on the 14th of September 1968, as a 12-year-old, he won the Freehold Special Pace over one mile in 2.1 to take his career earnings to $1,000,837 and become the first harness racing horse to win the magic million.
