    I've had the same string of pearls that died back, restarted by propagating, died back, I put it outside, bring it in, died back.... it's in my windowsill now and growing again lol. There's a big learning curve with this one, not easy for me! But easy to propagate for sure.

      SO not easy! i also had some struggles with this plant but it seems to (fingers crossed) finally be nice to me. i hope yours drops the diva act soon!

      I regretted repotting mine because it was so tangled

    Ah I have so much difficulty with this plant! I’ve had a few and now I’m left with a few strands. Next one I’ll try your squishy method to see if they need water, and a terracotta pot 😊

    just stumbled on your page, thanks for being so informative about these plants' care! I'm thinking of getting my own string of pearls but I wanted to do some research first and this vid did not disappoint, thank you so much!

    I've had a few string of pearls that never seem to survive the first watering- they seem thirsty but the next day they burst! But I've gotten very lucky with a small variegated sop thats been doing well. Thanks for all the tips!

      @julieannelovesbooks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe get a moisture meter and stick it in towards the roots? I hope your variegated sop is still doing well!

    Weird because I actually noticed mine likes to be watered more than my other succs... and my baby is flowering 🌸hmm tricky trickyyy. They have a mind of their own.

    Thanks so much for the video! I've just ordered a variegated string of pearls cutting and I'm hoping it's going to thrive thanks to your info! My last one died a terrible death near a dehumidifier :(

    I made the mistake of not transporting it from the plastic nursery pot into a terracotta and I just repotted it today and I'm hoping for the best. The soil that was in the nursery pot kept it's moisture and wasn't drying out properly so now with that 50/50 mix perlite & cacti/succulent soil I'm hoping it'll do better. It's in a 4 inch pot, but honestly I probably could've put it in something smaller. Just going to keep an eye on it and hope she flourishes.

    I was just thinking that my SOP is dying like no ones business and I should put it in a smaller pot. Then this video was the first to pop up. So I repotted while you spoke and I hope it comes back to life! Yours looks beyond healthy. All the pearls on mine shriveled up and turned black on top so there’s only one healthy string now

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh no!! hopefully it adjusts to the new pot and perks up! SOP can be a pain for sure BUT i think that once you find a certain routine with them then they become less troublesome. i definitely had ups and downs with mine 🤦🏻‍♀️

  • @julieannelovesbooks
    @julieannelovesbooks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So what you can also do is lay the string you’re going to propagate on a pot of soil without snipping it off of the mother plant. It will start growing roots and this might be a bit more successful since it is still getting water and nutrients from the already existing root system. After the roots are securely attached to the new soil you can snip it off of the mother plant and there is your new string or pearls. I do recommend laying a couple of strings on the soil so your new plant isn’t just one single string.

    Hey guys question! I got these guys recently. I find that when I go to squish their pearls at the top, they sorta just fall off. Ive done it a few times now. Not sure if its just because I was aggressive or because of something else lol. Lmk!

    Thanks for the video. Such a cute plant. Saw one today in my local nursery but it was in a hanging pot. I think I prefer to start with a smaller one so I did not bother getting it. It is on my wish list.

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i actually like having a smaller one! it was more affordable and i felt less pressure. unlike SOH, i think it can actually fill up pretty easily without get bald on top.

    Do you think a succulent or cactus potting mix would be good for a string of pearls?

    Hi, really informative video thanks. But…..I hate the music in the background, I don’t know why I hate that sort of jazz type music but it really puts my nerves on edge 😢. I didn’t want to turn you off so I persevered, so now I have to let my blood pressure go down before I can start to prop my sop using one of your suggested methods. You have a lovely voice btw you don’t need any type of music 😊

  • @cr0w3at3r
    @cr0w3at3r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think this is a string of beads and not a string of pearls, no? Have I been mislead into thinking they’re not the same thing? 😭 I’d assume they’re literally the same in terms of care so still super useful but yours looks a little more oblong and pointy and I think that’s the difference?? Either way thank you, this vid has made me less anxious about killing my new one, it’s my first!

    I just bought a (expensive) senecio rowleyanus variagata cutting, it's coming in a few days and i'm so stressed that it won't survive propagation 😣 i'd like to do the second method do that it is not just a single string hanging but i know it is more risky ... any extra advice for this method?? I've heard to keep the very top layer of the soil slightly moist by spraying water regularly, do you agree? Thanks for this great video!! 🤗

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is such a gorgeous plant! I would make sure there is enough soil up top for the propagation to root into (aka maybe put a little extra soil on top). I would agree that spraying the top with water will help too. Just be careful to not spray too much since the mama plant has fragile roots that might rot. Good luck 💚

    What type of pot (size-wise) are you using in the video? I recently bought a 2-inch string of pearls and don't know what size pot to plant it in

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if your plant is outgrowing the 2in, you can bump up to a 3 or 4 in! mine is in a 3 in.

    My sop needs help 😩 idk how to make it happy. I think I may have overwatered it or maybe not had enough light? It was really full when I got it then it started to thin out

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if the pearls are getting squishy and bursting open it’s too much water! if the pearls are falling off from mostly the top it’s probably light. good luck! 💚
