*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

I found out about Opeth from Tool. Now I love Opeth more than Tool. Never thought that could happen. Both are phenomenal though. Opeth has music for everyone, they've got heavy and they've got intricate guitar ballads, and they've got experimental prog rock/jazz (Heritage) and more. I love all of it.

Opeth's NON growling albums are magnificent! In Cauda Venenum (English version), and Sorceress are the album names. They're on my daily playlist. There isn't a bad track on either album. Maybe you'll give them a try sometime. It's a work in progress for me to find more because Mikael Åkerfeldt clean vocals are beautiful! I really love this band as a whole, minus the growling albums.
    Yes, they're prog.
Interesting enough, I'm able to listen to some of the growling tracks because this band is so good! The vocalist actually doesn't want to do growling any longer, that's why those latest 2 albums I mentioned are clean 99.9 % clean vocals.

@Bryan Mack Cauda is the best one for me. ❤️ I've been listening to Pale Communion and Heritage this week, and I enjoy them very much!

For a deeper dive into Opeth, try "Harlequin Forest", "Windowpane" or "To rid The Disease". Opeth has some real masterpieces. I think everything they do is brilliant, but the songs I listed are good intros to the band...then you're ready for "Blackwater Park" :)

According to Mikael (the Opeth singer) this song is about an ex-girlfriend that commited suicide.
And some fun facts about Opeth:
-Mikael and Steven Wilson (Porcupine tree) are best friends, same with Jonas of Katatonia.
-Steven Wilson produced and mixed a lot of Opeth albums
-Opeth started like sort of Progressive death metal band and then slowly move into the prog rock
-In the middle of the prog death era they recorded a beautiful, mellow and haunting album called Damnation
If you wanna react/check out to some old Opeth I would recommend The drappery falls or Moonlapse vertigo and on the prog rock side River or Heart in hand and for a ballad, definitely Windowpane.
    Cheers!

amazing band. death growls may take getting used to though. some good entry songs are Bleak - Deliverance - The Moor. That's metal, but their new stuff is prog rock and might be better to start. Good ones are - Eternal Rains - Strange Brew - Lovelorn Crime - A Fleeting Glance - The Wilde Flowers

@@SuperJersh Makes sense, but darn, you're missing out since you love acoustic guitar. Their last 4 albums are mostly clean vocals and beautiful guitar melodies, along with everything else of course. 😉

Happy to see you going down the Opeth road... it's a beautiful, dark, and winding one. I knew your creative brain would at the very least find their musicianship interesting! Looking forward to seeing you do some more of these.

This had an interesting ambience and build also with the silence bits before the chorus. Title wise theres a few songs that use 'Something Heart', like you've reacted SIA's ELASTIC HEART and when you get to GAGA's JOANNE theres DIAMOND HEART.

Unfortunate you went with the video. The full track is another 3 minutes longer. But regardless, great reaction. Yes Opeth is prog rock/metal (and death metal), more rock oriented now but no less brilliant. They're in fact one of the biggest bands in prog along with names like Tool and Dream theater. And in case you were curious, yes they are my all time favorite band. Can't wait for you to eventually check more from their discography. And I recommend you try to pick songs from each album as you won't get the same two sounding albums. This track was off their 2008 album Watershed by the way
