    I lived in Prince George for 22 years and feel quite blessed to finally be able to leave...i left a few years ago . I raised my daughter there and when she entered high school the peer pressure of drugs and alcohol are immense...she said basically "all" the kids were mingling with it and with fentanyl mixed in drugs now adays that is a very concerning matter ...she said that most of her freinds parents did some type of drug or alcohol as well. I was also in a good neighborhood and had theft in my yard...and the stories through the years shhesh . As the years went by it progressively declined....i left a few years ago and freinds have told me it is much much worse now...i was told of a few fatal overdoses that have occured in the young since i left...i am now in Edmonton best decision ever and loving it...great hospitals, schools, nice wooded walking trails all through the city and some nice ravines and river through it...cheap cheap housing and less tax and major airport ...ok fantastic shopping too and my amazon deliveries are at my door in a couple days 😁....i also found people much freindlier...i wish i would have come years ago

    I lived in PG for 3 years. There are some nice people there but I would never go back there with my family, the drug and gun crime is on another level! It also felt very isolated to me. To get to another city of any size is a day long drive or you have to fly. The other problem was, all the friends we got to know when there, moved away. It's quite a transient place.

    • @LivinginPrinceGeorge
      @LivinginPrinceGeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where are you living currently I'd you don't mind me asking?
      I've actually had the opposite experience. I've lived here a total of 6 years now, and I love it. Many of my friends from my hometown ended up here, and I've made many more that are new comers to the city that have settled here for good.
      After living in Ottawa (1 million people) I'd say the instances or fun violence and drugs are much less here, especially if you just stay out of the VLA, which is only a small section of the city.
      I won't argue that it's a bit isolated for sure though, haha

      @@LivinginPrinceGeorge I now live on Vancouver island but we have property in NB so will be selling up and moving out of BC altogether.. MY wifes family moved to PG in the 50's from the UK and Germany so they have seen and watched PG grow and to be honest they will be selling up and also leaving,,
      I lost track of the times on the drive in to work I drove passed a shooting at a house and the Police had it all tapped off..
      I grow up just outside London Uk and I was shocked at the crime in PG, yes its mostly in the VLA but it does spread out, friends of mine had bullets fly through there house by somone doing a drive by shotting on one of their neighbours..
      For the size of PG it should not have the crime that it does

    • @LivinginPrinceGeorge
      @LivinginPrinceGeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adrianharrison5208 Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that you and your family have witnessed so much violence and crime here. I grew up in neaby Burns Lake and have been coming to PG my entire life, and have now lived here a total of 6 years myself (2 of those were in 2003/4 right on Strathcona in the VLA) and have been fortunate enough to not have any incidents or close calls myself.
      I am certainly not disagreeing with the reputation that PG has earned in the past, but am merely speaking of my own experiences, and the general improvements I've witnessed that are ongoing.
      As a side note, I'd love to help your parents out when/if the time comes for them to leave, if they do not already have someone they are working with! I wish all of you safe travels in your transition out of BC!

    How's the crime? Prince George consistently rates in the top 20 on Maclean's top 100 cities with highest crime index. Also, some people say there's pulp mill smells sometimes. Does that depend on location in the city?

    • @LivinginPrinceGeorge
      @LivinginPrinceGeorge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Prince George does have crime, which keeps it on that list but there are many things being done currently in the city, that is bringing more and more upstanding citizens to the downtown areas, and over the coming years it's going to naturally push out a lot of the remaining crime.
      I lived in the so called "worst" part of the city for 2 years during college, back in 2004-6 when things were even tougher than now, and I never had a single issue or scary moment.
      So with a bit of common sense , others should also not have any issues.
      There is no denying the smell of the pulp mills. Yes some areas of the city are better than others, but just count on smelling it from time to time when you live here. 🙂
      Hope that helps, Michael!

      Thanks for your input Arthur! I'm sure you were just using those numbers to drive home a point, but a quick google search will confirm that Prince George gets an average of 299 days of sunshine a year.
      So I guess you are right, 300 days was "bullcrap", as i rounded up to 300 for simplicity sake, 😂.
      To your next point, a person's interaction with the criminal elements of a city can be as much or as little as you make of them. I've lived here for a total of 6 years, and have literally never had a single issue. I even lived down in the VLA for 2 of those years back in 2004-6, in the Strathcona Townhouses, and had no issues.

    remember, if you want to move to prince george, as a labourer, make sure you have a job before moving (or stay with friends while the family is still back where ever), other wise, make sure you have the right training and right schooling. its not as simple and as easy pleasy as this guy makes it. once you have a job in prince george and it pays good, do not be a big city person and quit. good jobs in prince geroge do not come around to often. even low paying jobs. even low paying jobs in prince george do not come around to often and when it dose, work your butt off to show that you are valuable to the company. low paying jobs lead to much better jobs to so take what you can get unless you are already trained.

      Hi Joey, you are correct. It helps to have a job lined up , but that's true of anywhere you move.
      The same is true for having a skillset or past experience to make yourself more "hireable".
      But there are plenty of jobs out there for anyone who isn't adverse to hard work.
