Jon Bernthal is a man who takes everything in from the person whos speaking to him thinks about it then responds, His level of respect is among the best ive ever seen as a podcast host he dosent spout bullshit & talk about random shit that takes away from the guest whos speaking he listens cause he wants to learn not gain attention, thats why he posts these episodes.

Thank you Jon for all of these interviews.
this one in particular hit home for me because I had a cop that talked some sense into me after I left the Corps and was starting to make some bad decisions. He could have compounded my issues with considerable legal trouble when he found me at my lowest point but he chose to try and talk some sense into me. I listened and took his advice. I got help through the VA with counseling, took a job pushing carts at a hardware store even though I thought it was below me but since I gave it everything I had, I got noticed and was promoted very quickly. I even capitalized on my GI bill and graduated college and married the woman of my dreams a year after that crappy night.
that was all twelve years ago. the cop and I stayed in contact and told me that I am the only person he ever knew of in his 25 years of law enforcement that had a good outcome.
Some LEO's spend their entire career wondering if they ever really made a difference and that it is tragedy because I am sure if they were sincere and positive, they have changed someone's world at least once for the better. I can also understand how they might be jaded from seeing all of the awful outcomes and repeat offenders they see everyday as I worked in a hospital for many years and got a glimpse of that as well.
Thanks again and Please keep these conversation's coming!

I grew up in San Fernando valley CA, Sun Valley to be exact, all trough out the 90’s. Very poor neighborhood. I remember cops were trying to reach out to the community. They would have us approach their car and would give us topps baseball cards, candy, badge stickers, DARE stickers and pencils. They would even play ball with us for a few minutes. THOSE were good cops. Even our DARE officer was very involved in our community. I remember him being very funny. I hope they’re doing good and are safe.

I was a cop in the 90’s and 2000’s. There was a big push for community-oriented policing and proper tactics (not so much today - much more focus on sexual harassment and respecting pronouns). I think we served the communities better back then. I loved interacting with the people I served and it was fulfilling to help - unfortunately one bad incident with an idiot cop is what makes the news and can undo a lot of good will.

When they showed me a taste of the podcast .I was immediately blown away! I'm on this of the fence due to some of the stuff they are discussing, street gangs, drugs, and supid ever more! For there's no rock&roll, far from it,all you get on that life style is a whole bunch of blues! To be honest,if it wasn't for the real love that Jeff has for me,along with my dear sister,I would be living on a gutter, that's a true fact! As a person who grew up in South Central, Los Angeles in the 80's - 90's, I can say from experience that C.R.A.S.H. units are responsible for the contentious relationship between the community and Police currently.

Unfortunately we're losing this fight. 15-20 years ago, it was hundreds of applicants applying for 1 spot or a handful of spots on a department at most. It's completely upside down now. Dozens or hundreds of jobs are open, some departments are struggling to get a single applicant. No one wants the job any more. You know who to thank for that if you've been paying attention the last couple years. Hate to see what becomes of the profession in the next 20 years unless things change drastically.

      @whatsthedeal9720 ปีที่แล้ว

The blame lies with corrupt cops and leadership along with a failed judicial system that rewards bad and/or illegal behavior by those who swore to uphold and defend the constitution. Officers who take the oath seriously that have the ability to leave personal biases in their lockers before they go out are getting painted with the same paint brush that the corrupt cops are by virtue of the uniform. What was once done in the dark has more than come to the light in the age of cameras. These crimes are being caught on camera by the public and by the cops own cameras which can be seen in the media on a loop. Good and well intentioned people are foregoing applying for the job because they don't want the headache and vitriol because they would wear the same uniform as the undesirables. Department heads only addresses the bad actors when the acts are too egregious to turn a blind eye to. There is very little to no accountability from the heads of some of these departments. Until there are changes from the top as far as weeding out the bad officers (the ones with multiple force/discourtesy complaint) and doing real background investigation on candidates.

    Nice to meet Ya Guys
Enjoyed listening to the Life stories
Back in the mid 90's thru the late 2000's I roofed a large percentage of warehouses down in the LA area
    Walls are tagged everywhere
You stay aware of your surroundings
We would find spent lead on the roofs all the time
    Parapit walls were tagged
Could tell some parties up there at night
    Empty spray cans
Beer cans etc on the roofs
    The boss kept a jar
About a 5 gallon glass pickle jar of spent lead from roofs
    Well over half full
Sometimes they were just laying on the roofs
Other times you'd have to dig them out of the roofs
I could read a lot of the graffiti
    Definitely a different
Hard to explain feeling when you're around that stuff
    A Cerebral

What it takes to be a good cop and Marine is determination, loyalty to the Constitution, not following illegal laws or orders, and helping the people you swear to protect when they need it.
Of course that last one the situational every American are their own first responders and responsible for their own protection, but if the police are available and can help that is.
