Your tip about storing bolts and small parts in one of those organisers is just brilliant. I saw it one of your previous videos and have been doing it with my projects ever since. Here in the UK, they sell them in B&Q (pretty much our version of Bunnings) and they are just under £3.50 - which is really cheap. So thanks for the tip!
Can't wait to see how you tackle the a/c insulation foam issue. Been waiting for all the stuff to be blown out of mine for the last 3 years or so :(. My biggest issue is pieces just get smaller and smaller, gets into your eyes, mouth, etc.
On that subject, glove manufacturers are now using nylon on the upper side of gloves. It is really bad, in contact with heat en oil it just falls apart.
I got a hoist in my garage late last year. Changed my life. No more lying under the car. I also managed to get a whole new bunch of mates who want to come over !!!
Thanks for taking the time! I'm looking into a motor / transmission swap from a Cayenne 955 into what is called a Gbody. It has a tiptronic auto but it's virtually the same process. This is a real eye opener. Well done👍🏼. I'm wondering if it would actually fit under the transmission tunnel without any metal work involved. One question though, is the "transfer case" part of the transmission geared or does it use some sort of silicone fluid coupler to transmit power? I'm asking due to my car being RWD and have no use for the front shafts.
Been working on a VW Transporter, replacing the turbo, glow plugs and not trying to fault find a problem where it has no power ... and those tri-square bolts are everywhere
I imagine the only reason there is a THUMBS DOWN on here is from a Porsche dealership, upset that you are giving away secrets. Who cares? They are out-voted! KW
Awesome 👍🏾👍🏾 good get it all done properly and everything that need's to as it a mission to do, I did that mistake as took a head off my Rav4 was thinking of doing the oil pump seal but didn't then I had to do it because it started leaking badly after I gpt it back on the road, lol
Do you watch Vehcor Jeff? He uses a marking pen face on masking tape to get the camera to focus, sounds weird but wonder if you could do something similar.
Jeff- could you post which tool you used for the "ONE" specific trans bolt. Where you got it from or a better description of the tool? I am doing this in the coming months and want to be prepared for the job. Thanks, been with you for 3 years, love your channel!!
Having to fix it so soon Jeff, the DMF is definitely past its use by date, 150,000 klm is really not that much work, and those cars so expensive to buy new. Used, as Scotty Kilmer says, "endless money pits".
The worse part of owning a 996 or any Porsche of that era removing the whole driventrain just to one anything on these vehicles. Are you going to do the pipes on the coolant housing?. Check them
@@adross7940 I'm sure how if the under body of the car you can't Jack in properly!!! The rocker seals on this car are weak as !! BS you can't remove the engine and transmission without a hoist then how do you remove it complete if you have no room or way to fit the car so you can slide the driven train unit . Need something with wheels and low profile and take the weight.
@@_i-kr6eg Mate... are you ok? Feel free to check out my instagram @DIYPorscheguy and see for yourself that I both own a 911 and removed the transmission and engine as a unit. In fact, if you go back and watch Jeff's videos you will see that he also removes the engine and transmission as a unit ON JACK STANDS. The engine is lowered onto a trolley or a hydraulic jack and dragged out from the back. Knock yourself out champ. th-cam.com/video/Q_S9YdCO0_g/w-d-xo.html
Good cheap idea with the metal strap to hold the flywheel. Have a nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
So many DIYers are gonna love this video

I didn't come up with it but I love it.
Another great in depth job tutorial for the home mechanic. Cheers Jeff. Cant wait for the next installment.
I love the details you go into with your videos. Keep up the good work Geoff
Thanks for the tip of putting the bell housing bolts in the cardboard pattern.
Thanks Jeff, very helpful
Love the way you explain the kind of problems you are likely to come across 👍

Another great video buddy! Keep up the good work. I miss my 996. I’m thinking a Cayman might be in my future 👍
9.18 - If we club together,we could get Jeff a new pair of gloves.
Grinding kills the gloves quickly ;)
I'm in.
Brian Green he should’ve bought the gloves before buying another bl**dy Porsche! Lol

You made that look easy looking forward to this bearing replacement always wondered how bad a job it was
impressive, the hoist is a must have

Great video, busting the myths about the M96/97 engine.
This is great Jeff, loads of practical insight, thanks!

What in the world did you use to undo that top bolt? I am having a bear on a time. All the rest are out.
are those trans bolts sopposed to go back to the car?
Thank you for putting this up. 🔥
Very good! But, I am stuck trying to remove the top bolt from the transmission. What tools and process did you use? Thanks!
I don't remember having any real issue with it.
Replace the AOS if you can get at it, the thing is cheap plastic and the oil just eats it from the inside out.
Also now that you’re in there check you oil pressure sender, mine was leaking and it was easy to get at with the trans out
Why the Dickens do you need three type bolt heads. LSD in Porsche Development?
Thanks Jeff!!

Great stuff Jeff. Love your practical and logical approach. #demystifyporsche

Interesting
Hi Jeff. Last vid I watched was when you took the 996 to Bathurst...is that when the clutch issue became apparent?
It was heavy before I bought it.
Do they do a solid flywheel conversion? I know that’s what I would be looking at
Scratch that, after a quick google search apparently a single mass doesn’t get along with this engine. Roll on Jeff

How is it not possible? I removed my 911 engine and transmission on jack stands... most people do.

Has Mrs Jeff been slipping the clutch already to make you have to change it? 😉
She has barely driven it :)
