Why do you assemble this pattern from "cubes?" Wouldn't it be more efficient to use longer rectangular blocks and assemble them the same way but end up with assembled slab that would be two or three times tall (and therefore permit 2 to 3 times as many slices)?
Yes, it is definitely right. Actually, I noticed there were some more efficient ways to make the pattern after dropping this video. I will try again in an efficient way in the near future! I appreciate your comment. Thanks so much.

So relaxing to watch and fascinating to see the whole process! Amazing how they look like woven baskets. What will these little dishes be used for? I’d love if the whole video was kept at normal speed (knowing this would make the video much longer) with no music! Would be great for ASMR.
Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate it. The dishes are called "mame-zara". They are typically used for serving condiments, pickled vegetables, or small portions of food during meals. Once again, I am grateful for your feedback, and I will strive to create more natural videos next!

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! At 17:09, I applied corn starch(potato starch) to my fingers to prevent them from sticking to the clay.
I’ve done this with polymer clay and it is sooo time consuming. I can’t imagine doing it with regular clay!! It turned out beautifully!!

@@patterny A much faster way would be to use an extruder!!! Also be sure to compress the clay from all angles to help get rid of the air pockets.

@@patterny An extruder makes perfectly shaped extrusions in any shape they are a must have for this. To get the air pockets out you want to compress the clay from every angle, top bottom and all 4 sides. Also the wetter your clay the more they will push together but I know it can’t be too wet or the clay will muddy eachother. It’s just a learning process really. Be sure to watch some polymer clay videos on how to do this. There is a man that all he does is make these with real clay hit he goes waaaay in depth and makes faces and all kinds of amaaazing pieces. Try and find him on TH-cam. His work is absolutely stunning.

can you please share what type of wood you use?
Thank you.🙏 The boards I used at 0:57 are made of paulownia wood. The ones I used at 15:59 are MDF Boards. I chose them simply because they were very cheap. However, I think that regular wood is the best option!

What size sticks (cm) are used for slicing each block into thin slices?
Thank you for the question. The sticks used at 1:00 are 3mm thick each and at 16:30 are 6mm thick each. By the way, the length are about 40cm.

Did I miss the bisque firing? You sanded when bone dry, with what grit of sandpaper?
I didn’t take a video of the bisque firing. (Only the illustrations 22:33 )I didn’t sand before bisque firing, but sometimes I sand when bone dry. The grid of sandpaper is 240- to 320-grit.Thank you🙏
So the sanding was after bisque firing? I think that is important information!

It would be so nice to see the same motif applied to a different shape. I love how pretty it is. I would like to see it on a smooth surface so the pattern really comes alive in a different way, such as a drinking cup with straight sides, smooth and silky.... it is so gorgeous.❤❤❤

I thought about it when I wrote this. I can't wait to see what you come up with. A plate also sounds fanatic. I love the disc you have in the process when you cut and smooth them. That's what made me wish to see it on a flat surface 😆

@@MrPerCapita They are stoneware. You can make them using white clay, red clay, and transparent glaze. Yes, they are fired twice in an electric kiln. First, they are fired at 790℃ and then again at 1200℃ to 1230℃. These dishes are used for meals so they are non-toxic and food safe.

The other works have colors, like pink or blue colors are made by adding pigments to white clay, which are made from metal. However, these pigments are harmful before firing, so if you are using them, it is important to wear a mask or gloves or something like that.
