    It still hurts that current Disney refuses to make a traditional animated feature film because the executives decided that the art is “worthless and that no cinema audience will purchase tickets for something not 100% filtered through the computer”. Even though The Princess and the Frog didn’t earn $500 million, they should still be thankful that it was still profitable instead of bombing as Treasure Planet did. But instead of learning that the problem was its release schedule faced heavy competition and the marketing didn’t help, the higher ups decided that 2D animation “worthless”. That sort of explained why the 2011 Winnie the Pooh was sent to die.
    What is also a COMPLETE SHAME is that John Karhs was allowed to develop a new tech that blended 2D and 3D in a seamless fashion but, while John Lasseter and Ed Catmull were interested in developing the tech further so a feature film could be produced using it, as usual the current executives decided not to. So it makes the developing of it all for nothing. That’s a contrast to Walt Disney because he applied the new tech that was first tried in a short film, color, the multi plane camera, xerox, into future features. And instead of a proper tribute of their history and making Wish a 2D movie, they thought all audiences now would purchase a ticket for is a 3D movie that’s pretending to be 2D.
    Jennifer Lee isn’t suited to run Disney animation. While the work she contributed to was excellent, she’s not a natural born leader as John Lasseter is. That’s what Glen Keane acknowledged when he first met John during production of The Fox and the Hound.
    It hurts to see what Disney has turned into

      What would’ve been a better plan would be this;
      When the 2010’s started, it was clear that Disney Toon Studios didn’t have any real future since the direct to video movie market was fading. Instead, turn Disney Toon into a secondary wing of the Burbank studio similar to the now defunct Florida studio and let this unit produce 2D animated feature films. As far as the release schedule, a new traditional animated feature could be released once in a blue moon or even once a decade as a special 2D event.
      Still I think Disney should solely produce the 2D/3D films and let Pixar produce the 100% 3D films so there would be differences between the two studios

      UPA is a strange situation where the strike happened not just because of perceived work conditions, but also with an outright fundamental disagreement of Walt's artistic vision. The animators at UPA used an interesting technique (limited animation) that led them stand out (but more importantly, actually made good cartoons, albeit not at Disney's level IMO), but that same technique led to cutting corners, and later the First Dark Age of Animation.
