  • Star Citizen has a new minimum spec CPU! CIG has finally updated the minimum requirements webpage- but can the new recommendation the i7 2600 actually run the game? I've paired it with the GTX 1660 and 16GB or DDR3 1333 MHz ram and compared to my real minimum spec recommendations the i5 10400, i7 8700 and Ryzen 5 3600!

I ran an i5-2500k, 16gb ram, 970 gtx for a while. I would get 25-35 fps in the city, 30-50 in space. Worked really well actually, intill Orison and Crusader came out. After that, it was pretty well rendered useless.

I'll give my personal experience for reference.
Until recently (last December) I played SC since 2016 with an AMD FX8350. It was slightly chuggy in major LZ's, but performed well and smooth in space, at 1440p with most settings on high.
It was coupled with an RTX2070 Super (I know its over kill, but needed that 1440p)
    A standard SSD
And 16G ram for a few years, but later 32G. Discovered recently that the ram wasn't running at its optimal speeds.
That machine can still run SC.
I guess minimum has a lot to do with what a person wants or expects.
Tenpoundfortytwo is the go to, to find what you want, or to expect from hardware with SC.

I wonder what the performance would of been if you used faster RAM. I dont think anyone who bought a PC in the last 5 years or more would be using DDR3 let alone at those speeds I think your limiting the CPU with that RAM. I am curious how much performance you would get from a DDR4 3200 mhz kit which everyone and their dog probably has.

Yep a good question! Unfortunately, these CPU's will only run on ddr3 so I can't test them with faster RAM!

    A request:
Please can you make a video about 'minimum processor to run the game at 60 fps at minimum in city areas' corresponding to each resolution segment?
I know it is lot to ask but that would help us finding the minimum spec for securing 60 fps in all circumstances.

I can confirm it runs on a intel 8700k, i upgraded the 1080ti to a AMD rx 6900 xt last year and i play on 4k. I get around 35 fps so enough to get around untill i have saved for a new PC.

I have an i7-6850k and it works well enough tbh. Its pretty playable (apart from cities)
I usually get anywhere from 40-60+ fps in space / on space stations. Even on planets.
In cities tho its usually a 30 fps experience. Sometimes 40 fps if the servers are not under heavy load

Until fall 2022 I was on a FX-6300 (4.1GHz all core overclock), MSI R9 290 4G Gaming Edition, 32GB of DDR3-1600 CL9, and Seagate 2TB Firecuda SATA SSD. The performance was about the same as the new minimum spec, probably a little worse.
My recommendation for minimum spec is AMD Ryzen 5600X, a GPU with at least 8GB VRAM, 32GB of RAM suitable for the CPU and a SSD.
Edit: Also, fast wired ethernet. Stop causing server desync as it tries to compensate for your noisy wifi and/or slow internet

The game is so annoying I use my laptop and it runs fine, I setup a PC for my daughter with an RTX 2060 and just keeps crashing out after 10 minutes I have thrown every benchmark at it and absolutely destroyed the card testing it and it wont crash ever. I checked the logs GPU crash disconnected people all over the internet have the same problem tried everything everyone suggested probably going to have to sell this card. My spare PC with a GTX 1080ti runs it perfectly luckily so we can play but does Star Citizen just not like certain cards

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

What are the rest of the specs? I have tested a 2060 and it worked fine- if you have 16GB RAM in that system then that can sometimes cause problems. Make sure you manually set the pagefile to give yourself roughly another 16GB. But unfortunately, it could just be a bad card.

I run SC with R5 2600 for quite a bit, paired with GTX 1660. 720P medium/low. 30 FPS locked in driver side. I have to say, it was playable and enjoyable. I was using 22inch display so 720P on that is not that bad (IMO). I then upgraded to R6 5600 with GTX 1080Ti 1080P High, 30FPS locked. Its buttery smoooth (again, in my disgustingly humble opinion).
I tried on my laptop before, with AMD FX 9830P + RX460, it was miserable.

That brings back some memories of my old system, an I7 2600 with 16 gigs of Ram and various GPUs (GTX 260, GTX 670, GTX 970) that I used to "play" SC from 2013 until mid 2019 where I then upgraded to a Ryzen 5 3600, with 32 gigs of DDR4 3200 Cl18 Ram and an Radeon RX 5700, though that system was then constantly upgraded over the years and is now a Ryzen 5800X3D, 32 Gigs of DDR4 3600 Cl14 and a Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

    Great stuffs as per usual.
    Running R5 3600 @ 4.4, RX5600xt (oc) + 32gb ddr3.
Im the poverty stricken minimum spec player youre talking about
Mostly gpu bottlenecked, 6gb vram is in that weird place where its ALMOST enough.. but not quite. although sometimes i notice i am in fact cpu bottlenecked.
It's a shame about the GPU prices rn, im an old school mid range buyer and i miss the days of £250-300 mid range gpu's.
Things are so evenly matched I reckon no matter which component i upgrade first im going to create a big bottleneck on the other one.

Thing is, I want frames when I'm fighting so in town I'm not to fussed. I think since these silly patches have come out the game has gotten worse as far a playability issues go. I played for a couple of hours yesterday and recieved 4 server issues problems.

I was running on I7-6700k with a 980ti and the game was poor. FPS drops to 8 or 9 fps at times. I moved to a 3090 and was getting capped around 35 to 40 fps, with drops in the sub 20s. When I upgraded to the I9-12900k with the 3090 the game became much smoother and playabe in the plus 50 to plus 60 fps

  • @renerant
    @renerant 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Isnt the "industry standard" for minimum specs usually 720p30? Or doesnt the game support that low of a resolution? Also, im not sure, but does it support FSR and perhaps even frame generation? FSR to lower the rendering resolution to like 720 and then upscale, frame gen to help overcome cpu bottleneck by creating fake smoothness?

    I7 6700, 16GB DDR, 1080ti here

in a game where cpu specs dont matter and gpu's idle. I really dont know why they even try to give such low specs. you're honestly better off renting from nvidias gamer service to play your game online with sc.
really wish the new dlss and vulkan actually worked. sc is so single core cpu bound that its insane. they are in it for the long cone. wait for technology/hardware to outpace their zero optimization. yet once you go into isolated areas or arena commander fps is fine. I really believe they use arena commander to dish out the spec requirement because its far more playable than live.

I'm not sure if you misspoke but you said in the beginning that you were definitely GPU bound with the i7-2600, which means, a faster GPU will give more performance and allow for the CPU to do more work that the GPU is currently preventing because you are GPU bound. I'm also curious about your settings, are you at 1080p with all other graphics rock bottom? You didnt show them, and finally, you mentioned a the i5-10400 as the minimum spec. I put an i3-10100 in my sons computer with 32gb DDR4 RAM and a Radeon RX 7600 XT and the game rarely drops below 20fps. Most of the time its around 30 to 35 but in areas like space it goes significantly higher.

I have been trying it on my secondary PC with Ryzen 2600 and a GTX1060 and it is playable with cities at about 20-30 fps, so they have made a lot of progress with optimisation.

You and most Star Citizen fans need to stop being naive. They obviously put lower specs than they actually require on the game so you can't refund based on poor performance. If you ask them in what scenario could you run the game on these specs, they will tell you that they didn't specified tje resolusion used so it can be the specifications to play on a 360p window.
