By god this brings back happy memories! I was a child living in Bangor street Caernarfon and watched the guys dismantle the old Afonwen line directly by our dwelling. My sister even gave them orange squash on a really hot day. Sad to see it all gone.

Thanks for the insight' into the place as it was, we've just made a gopro walk through of Caernarfon and castle, so good to see the comparison! Thank you I've subscribed.

When the railway went, Caernarfon died and has been in decline ever since. Of course the "inner relief" road did sod all to help. Another white elephant by the useless Gwynedd county council.

The railway from Menai Bridge to Caernarfon 'should' return in the not to distant future, and there's even talk of the line running all the way to connect near Pwllheli again.....eventually! Whether the latter happens remains to be seen, but theres no doubt the line will return back to Menai,Bangor and the NWCML. Fascinating old cine film of the old line and class 24.

If the line is restored to Pwllheli, what happens to the Welsh Highland?
Back to an interchange at Dinas?

      @@chairmakerPete More than likely, yes.

Would love to see that missing link Afonwen to Menai restored, but also love the WHLR being in Caernarfon. Dilemma! Maybe a dual gauge section from Dinas? That would be something to see!

John , not sure of the exact distance but I reckon about 5 miles or so.

@@DewiHDavies It is just about 3 miles on the WHR from Caernarfon to Dinas station. Thanks for posting this film, it is superb. So good to see colour film of a green class 24 even if it is on the demolition train. The lifting of this line was almost criminal in my opinion.
