The real hero in all these stories is Johnny's grandmother. The stress her family put her through sounds astronomical and through it all, sounds like she loved and cared for everyone of those kids and did her best to keep them on the right path, even against all odds. I bet she was a strong woman.

My husband and I became young Glamparents suddenly. Changed me. I want her to hv the best life & we get put thru A LOT with our kids due to some mental illness. I do everything I can so my kids and glambaby hv a gd life. It's a lot and Im not looking after my own mental health but it's all about the kids. Im determined for them to have a great childhood and life in general. To not have them go thru what I did as a child I'll give up my own happiness & have in a heartbeat

Johnny you are who you are. You might not have had a choice to become something other than what you are today & thats a good thing. You were around the violence the drugs scene bc you really didn't have another option. What you can do is take everything you've been through and learned and be the GREATEST MENTOR & SPEAKER to save kids lives. I believe that's your calling. You escaped death too many time and to live and speak on it ...says it all. Take your blessing and spread it to those youngsters who may not know there's a better way to live and to get out of that life before its too late. Johnny your a great man. Go do the GREAT WORK.

There is truly NOTHING glamorous about Johhnys life. In fact his is a tale of suffering, poverty, lack of options, oppression, violence, and abuse in the worst way. He says it himself, he had no choice as a youngster but to go into this life. What's remarkable about Johnny is that he's been able to retain and cultivate a sense of bouyancy about him, given his circumstance. Hes made the best of what he had. Its very poignant at the end the way he describes his lack of options and has had to compartmentalize, basically his humanity his conscience, in order to survive in his world. His stories revolve around his uncles, his elders, he really didnt have a choice as a young person, which is a tragedy. It should make anyone who has, extremely grateful. Bc if you were born into Johnnys family, you wouldnt have.

@@Lexington-Felix That's who he is, and that's all he has, is his reputation and lifestyle. He grew up in the life, his family generational is from this type of life. Actually for him to be as old as he is and to have lived the way he did, he is blessed to be alive and not imprisoned for life. He is an OG, a legend. Considering that's all his children know due to the environment and life, they are proud of their father. I think his grandfather would have been able to make the change with him. His grandfather saw the potential in him, unfortunately for whatever reason it didn't go farther. The actual support that he would have needed as a child to not be as his older cousins and uncles would have been very hard. However as now, I think he can steer his younger children, but he would have to remove himself from the environment and change his entire style. I agree he would have and perhaps can still make the changes from this type of life.

I have previously really enjoyed his story telling. This time he explained he sat and watched his cousin get their asswhooped for things HE did, he let his Adult Uncle do Adult time when he committed the crime and could have done teen time, he let his 1 year older than him cousin and various other uncles get in trouble for his misdeeds. Where is the Honor in that?
He shot a man just in order to get a tattoo, not because the man had brought any harm or trouble to Johnny’s loved ones. He made 2 guys welcome and offered hospitality, but then beat them with the wooden bat he created because he thought having two frog tats would be cool? Again the two men in question had not harmed him or his people or they would not have been invited to chill and hang. I absolutely do NOT understand.
I DO understand vengeance. I thought you did your time for your crimes like a man and without implicating others. I thought you were violent in response to violence against your family. I did not realize it was frivolous. I understood in some people’s cases they had to chose to be beaten to death by a gang or join. In joining, being forced to commit a serious crime. I did not realize Johnny just attacked people for the hell of it. And Bless his poor Grandma holding out hope he would be her last hope of a decent law abiding, non murderous kid. That teardrop must have ripped her heart out.
