Wow! Thanks so much for featuring us Michael, honestly didn't expect this at all! Can't wait to get this out to people to try :) Thanks again!
looks amazing!! Congrats on the launch! I will be purchasing for sure
Just purchased the early bird complete pack. Looking forward to getting it here to Puerto Rico.
I find it amazing that such small company, well Team, creates such a well thought product. How long did it take to develop it? I’d love to hear about the creation process.
@@MarioRodriguez-zi1xl Over 6months in development. We now even have our SSD Pro device just announced too 😄
@@chunkykizza A lot of work. Can you Share which Tools are you using in the Development? 3D software, prototypes, 3D printer and so on?
Also can confirm the 52mm thread stays in place and doesn't need to be removed when sliding in or out the phone. This design was implemented so that the lens filter area can be made for other adaptors or lens sizes or even other mobile cases with inbuilt threads etc.
How about the ultra wide lens? Do you get vignette when using it? It seems quite deep from the 52mm filter thread to the iPhone lens.
Yes wide angle will vignette slightly for the base 52mm adaptor. Other Adaptors will be made to utilise all lenses. But the adaptor needs to fairly large in order for the Wide angle not to vignette. Most ND accessories for iPhone will vignette slightly on the wide angle. It's very wide.
So we recently announced the SSD Pro, this not only includes a NVME drive, but also, charging, USB IO and HDMI out. 😊
I have 0 need for this……but I want it…
I really want this, it looks basically perfect, I hope they add a battery bank attachment
I purchased the 15 Pro Max with 512gb and the Brandon Lei Case. Its simply and ultra-capable without going overboard with rigging. Its important not to lose sight that the iPhone paired witj the Blacknagic camera app is all about convenience / performance. I'm very happy with the final results and the speed I can compose and film is astonishing. I film short case studies and social media commercials for a well-known Home Improvements channel.
This looks brilliant.👍
Hi! What is that beautiful iPad stand you have in this video? Thanks ++
Me perdí en la buena iluminación de tu set. Uff 👌🏻
I’m looking at getting into real estate photography and would love to use my iPhone for this. Is there a wide angle lens that would be good for this. This is the lens I was told to get for a canon camera, Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 STM Lens
Thank you for your help
Anything like this for IPhone 13 Pro Max?? I’m looking to attach a SSD drive to my phone while on a cage as well
Micheal i love your content and i want to know what stand are you using for ipad pro
Looks like a great product. Hopefully it will work with the iPhone 16 Pro once it comes out.
The thumbnail was irresistible lmfao
Couldmyou review the Condor Blue USB-C Media Hub?
This looks amazing. There is just two one nagging things that make me take pause. First is the 52mm filter mount. I like that it’s universal. But what about lenses? SmallRig and Neewer cages have interchangeable plates to mount 17mm, M, and T style lenses. I’m already pretty vested in lenses. If they intend to make lens mount options I’m in. Lastly is the lack of support for the iPhone 16’s new multifunction button. This one isn’t a huge deal, as I’m pretty sure the case will have all the functionality that the Apple’s extra button/touch slider will have. But no lens support is a deal breaker for me
I just backed it. Thanks for the video
Thanks so much, means alot!
Can you charge it with the basic SSD kit? Can I put like a cooling fan on the back or something? Cool grip!
We just announced the SSD Pro, provides a massive functionality boost. 😊
Pretty cool!
Just backed it. I think that the add ons come out just before the shipping... I hope so...Looking forward to the package.
The filter module is nice but I often use 17 mm threaded lenses. Wonder if there will be an option for that? Thanks. Appreciate you.
17mm lens Filters are on the cards, this is partly the reason the filter area is removable, it allows for users to make their own, but also allows for future releases of in demand stuff, just like a 17mm thread for each camera :)
I’d love to see Apple’s native app offer a couple of different flavors of Apple LOG. I think they have gone overboard by restricting recording to 422 HQ. At least one other codec should be available - 422 LT or even HEVC LOG. That could really simplify the rigging of the phone and eliminate the need for an SSD.
5:30 minutes in and I am hoping they have a plan for future iPhone versions with the 16 around the corner
Just finished the video and as someone that upgrades yearly I can’t back it without forward compatibility
Great Question! Founder here, Cinema Grip in its first iteration is specifically design for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but we do intend to also support the 16 Pro and Pro Max when it releases with our next iteration of Cinema Grip, if indeed the form factor changes for the 16 Pro.
The campaign does not have a single video that shows in detail how this works, and they apparently don't have one to give you at the moment. The SSD, if chosen, is no-name. A current, 4th generation standard size NVMe will not run on an iPhone because they draw too much power. It's possible that a 22mmx30mm NVMe will draw less power, but it also means putting a 1TB or larger NVMe in a much smaller enclosure. Query what this means for heat, which is already an issue with standard size NVMe enclosures. If you want to try this, it's already available on Amazon for less money and free 30 day return if you aren't happy. Not noted in the video above, shipping for this proposed product to the U.S. is not cheap.
Just for information... There's a company called Think Thing Studio that's selling a standard size enclosure and NVMe for the iPhone 15. Its NVMe is one of the very few that will work. I suspect that it's actually 3rd generation. When I discovered that the NVMe is sold in Asia, but not North America, I asked Think Thing which other NVMes they've tested that will work. I've yet to receive a response :)
Lots of work went in to finding the correct NVME drive which balances performance and power consumption. We stand by the NVME choice 100% and it has one of the best TBW for its class. Power consumption of the drive and motherboard is approx 3w at full speed and ~1w at idle. But we just announced our SSD Pro as well which brings some massive functionality improvements. We will have some videos on our Quip Design channel soon showing the Cinema Grip in action :) Being crowd funded and being a very small team has its draw backs, but also it's advantages as we can be agile :) This product has been in development for over 6 months now 😊
@@chunkykizza "We stand by the NVME choice 100%" - so much that you won't disclose what NVMe it is, and won't disclose what other NVMes, assuming that they exist, will also work.
@@roryonabike5863 For sure that's no issue, I can give you a full breakdown of the drive if you like. There is a correction though, we did plan on using NVMe4.0 but changed to a 3.0 devices for reasons I'll get to. Current 3.0 drive use a Maxio Controller, and uses Micron TLC nand flash. It's NVME3.0, drive actually caps out a ~2,000MB/s sequential until full, but the 10Gbps USB controller Maxes at 1,000MB/s. SSD maxes out at 2.7w, but as the bus is limited to 10Gbps, total ssd drive and USB conversion consumption stays around 2w. This is a good thing as the controller doesn't heat up as much and uses less power, and honestly there is no need for really anything over 400MB/s from the Iphone. The 1TB drive has over a 700TBW life cycle as well. The SSDs are manufactured by SCY. They are typically a wholesale manufacturer for enterprise solutions and don't really sell retail. Their 2230 NVMe and M.2 drives are used in many OEM laptops and tablets. The SSD's used in our solution will have some small customisations, to reduce power at the expense of speed as we are limited to the 10Gbps bus so there is no need for the Maximum 3,500MB/s offered by there off the shelf enterprise solution. We originally wanted to use NVME4.0 as it was only a few dollars more to swap, but it was overkill because of the 10Gbps speed limitation + the drives had a lower TBW capacity and higher power draw (Up to 3w), so really didn't make much sense to use a NVME4.0 drive. The website, campaign and materials all reflected this change actually around the same time Michael made his video which I wasn't aware he was doing yet. I hope that answers all your questions 🙏
@@roryonabike5863 apologies I also forgot to mention the Other SSDs you wanted clarity on, on our campaign we list and recommend the Sabrent 2230 1TB NVME drive. I think Michael brought this up as well. There is also the Mp600 by Corsair but personally haven't tested these.
Hey Michael, this looks like a pretty promising rig so far in the market even compared to the major brands like smallrig or beastgrip ! But the only issue that I can see here is that wheter you can charge the phone when the phone is mounted on this while recording..? since the usb c port is directly connected to ssd card connection within the mount.. how would you continue to record without having to take the phone off and charge which will be a 'DOWNTIME' while other rigs, you can connect a usb c hub and through PD port and supply a continued power to the phone, this will prevent the downtime. I am pretty keen know if they thought about this because if you are recording in ProRes Log 4k 30/60, the battery will drain quickly.
I think you'll find in normal usage you will only need to charge at the end of the day. Especially on the 15 Pro Max and especially if you put into Airplane mode.
52mm sounds like a really small thread size, particularly given that, with a case and the grip itself, there will be a little distance between the camera and the filter itself. Particularly interested to know if there is vignetting using the ultra wide lens.
Hey Steven, designer here :) yes the Ultra wide does vignette with the base 52mm lens thread unfortunately. The good news is this lens thread area is removable and we plan on releasing other threads with the trade off being it won't be as portable as in order for the Ultra wide not to vignette the lens thread needs to be massive, infact our early designs had a much larger lens thread so all cameras could be utilised, but it just made the design to bulky and realistically outside of the initial concept of being portable first as a core tenant.
@@chunkykizza Thanks for the (honest) reply. Yeah it makes sense that something has to be compromised in the name of a slim profile design. In my experience, the thread size has to be about 67mm to work with all three lenses and that’s when the design really starts overlapping the compact size of the phone.
@@StevenDempseyArtist Yes! I had the 67mm on my Original design, but it made going into my pocket impossible, which was a primary driver for the design, to be small and portable. The ultrawide is super wide, to the point where I typically do not use it in Video really at all, but it has its place :) I will probably release a free STL for a 67mm adapter so people can print their own if they need, I really want to open up the platform so people can create things that suit their own needs :)
I want a grip that takes a Sony NPF and a memory card. It’s possible, I’ve connected these two things to a USB-C hub. The NPF charges the phone, and the phone obviously records to the card.
SSD Pro just announced 😊 Massive functionality boost! Video being released soon on the Quip Design channel with some of the things you mentioned as well :) We also use a NPF for power 😊
Do u know if the filter mount just let u drop in filter? Or do you have to remove mount then install filter? Wasn’t sure if I missed that part if you mentioned already. Thx.
Filters can stay in tact, in fact you can full rig the Cinema Grip, and simply slide your phone out of it without removing anything from Cinema Grip. 😊
Someone’s beat us to it 😆 I’m actually glad.
What iPad stand is that?
A 4tb iphone Ultra with fastest thunderbolt port and 6000mah battery in future will fix the need of recording externally.
Also if they somehow bring electronic reinforced glass internal ND then it would be possible to get away with or without any extra lens filter.
still like recording externally to separate it and edit quickly. But ya, bigger battery would be cool. And man I want internal NDs to become a standard thing so bad.
After going through the nightmare of offloading footage internally from an iPhone, Apple first need to allow the phone to be seen as a USB device and then you would be right. But also a 4TB iPhone? I really do want to spend $3,000 on a phone haha
hi i have a doubt all those grips didn't make iphone feel warmer when use in video recording ?
what's the cooling soultion ?
Our Thermal Tech case helps transfer the heat away from the phone into the aluminium grip acting as a heatsink for the phone.
Yes! #MorePlease of Michelle! :) Glad to see her in the video! Another great one Michael! And uh, LOVING that iPad setup! #TobinCaseRIP
If they make a 35mm lens plate I’m down
I still don‘t know how you handle the battery consumption of the ssd or ext. Mic. Even when the iphone is in stdby it will feed the devices. Any idea exept unplugging?
I have looked into this, I specifically sourced and even heped with some of the design of the specific NVME drive we are using, where at idle it will use less than 1watt. I estimate around 0.8w. In my testing, the phone with SSD attached will last all day with many hours of shooting time without needing a recharge. The iPhone 15 Pro max, especially lasts a long time :)
The SSD Pro was just announced which brings some massive functionality to the Cinema Grip 😊
I love the innovation we’re starting to see in this market. My issue with this design is that, in its current state at least, there doesn’t seem to be an option to add a USB-C microphone since the usb port is taken up (and covered) by the case itself. Yeah I know there are plans for a future “studio” version, which is great, but that’s more of a “someday” thing. I think a lot of people are looking for an all-in-one solution as opposed to something that might answer a couple of concerns (primarily storage). The other thing I see (and I could be totally off here) is that anyone who sees the need for a grip with this much storage is clearly somebody that takes filming on an iPhone more seriously than a casual user. Casual users have no idea how much storage you need because they typically record at a much smaller format. So if that’s true, then these people probably also already have lenses typically T series lenses or M series lenses. I have a number of cages that have adaptors for both. If this case had a solution for fitting either of those lenses, then that would make it more attractive to people who might be more of a pro market. And yes, I do realize there is a thread for filters, but many people who are in the iPhone film or videography space have probably invested in specialized lenses for iPhones. So again, I think it’s fantastic that this company has started to explore the space of iPhone cages that have something built-in internally that we might find more useful (in this case memory storage) however, I feel like the design of it is being targeted to a specific user base, but that user base needs more features for it to be attractive. Obviously, I don’t speak for everybody because that would be ridiculous, but from my own experience, I’m waiting for something that just comes with more features before I invest.
DJI Mic 2 transmitter is really the anwser this this :) It allows for internal recording, but for 99% of things, the wireless recording option to the blackmagic app without plugging in is very usable. You can use your own mic connected to the tranmitter or use the inbuilt Mic on DJI Mic 2.
@@chunkykizza I actually have a Rode 2 wireless which does that but I’m not going to assume that everybody does. I just don’t like things that block up the USB port that way. I want a case that supports multiple ports.
SSD Pro just announced :) Enables tonms of features now :)
@@chunkykizza thanks. I’ll check it out
All looks good but one thing has me thinking. The distance between the filter mount and the lenses might cause some bad vignette on the ultra wide lens. This is something I'd like to see .
Yes the current 52mm thread will vignette on the Ultra wide, but this area is removable for future lens adaptors and also if you had your own case with 17mm threads etc. 😊
I find it amazing that such small company, well Team, creates such a well thought product. How long did it take to develop it? I’d love to hear about the creation process.
Well it took a long time haha Much longer than I wanted. Approx 6 months. And we just announced the SSD Pro device as well which brings some massive functionality Boosts to the Cinema Grip. 😊
6 months from product design until the first prototype?
@@MarioRodriguez-zi1xl No first product design was produced back in November, but there is alot of work on company, assembly, and final design changes + Now the IO accessories as well :)
I wanted to say 6 month is very fast 😉 I’m sure you are learning a whole lot in the process!
Seems the timing is a bit strange, by the time it comes out the iPhone 16 will already be out, which is said to have significant design differences. Probably will wait to see if will support it.
Personally I won't be upgrading to the iPhone 16. But a iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Cinema Grip is actually already being worked on, only some very slight changes to the phone size.
iPhone 16 Pro and Max now supported 😊
I would love to see it in action
Posting a Video soon on the Quip Design TH-cam channel 😊
Any ideas when the pro accessories will be available?
The Studio pro accessory is most likely End of July 2024 at this stage the hard things about the design has actually been to decrease its PCB size so it fits in and out when using adapted filters on the camera area. Its 100% doable, but has moved the date back a bit. I will need to update the website for Q3 Launch.
SSD Pro just announced, this is on track to launch along side Cinema Grip 😊
Where would i plug my mic in??
You’d get the optional Pro port add on I mention later in the video that has two extra usb c ports.
The DJI MIC 2 really is the perfect companion for the Cinema Grip. It allows for internal recording, but also really decent audio wirelessly to the phone with some crazy range. I would say for 99% of things the wireless audio is fine, but if you plan on using it professionally I would record Internally on the MIC 2 and also record the wireless transmission as a backup. You can also plug your own MIC's into the DJI MIC 2 as well. At least for me, I use it alot!
SSD Pro just announced with USB IO and charging 😊
Would you ever consider sharing the results from a professional project you shot using your iphone rig with the dof adapter? There's a lot of videos talking about gear for stuff like this, but actually very little showing the results from rigs built out like this. I think the team at Strada is currently the only ones truly showing real world results from utilizing these iphone rigs. Lately I've been feeling like a lot of content talking about gear and very little actually being shared other than "backyard tests". Seeing the results can be more interesting. Just a thought. Keep doing your thing man!
It’s funny because unless you use a dof adapter, your cell phone footage still looks like cell phone footage. Not necessarily that bad. The big issue is the lack of solid constant frame rate.
I guess the next obvious negative is as soon as the latest iPhone launches, it's become another piece of gear to sell
Confirmed Support for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max 😊
Well the obvious question would be, Size... which iphone will it work with and or will they offer two versions?
iPhone 15pro and Pro Max, the Cinema Grip is currently made in 2 sizes. 😊
Could you please review the Condor Blue USB-C Media Hub??
Yup trying to 👍🏼
Nice!
wish the ability to charge the phone was there from the start vice future capability. I would go for it now if ability to charge was there.
I tried my best to figure out a solution to this, but it really compromised the design, and after many testing days, I concluded I actually never needed to charge it until the end of the day. Alot of people assume you will need to charge after only a few hours, but if you turn your phone onto airplane mode and have reasonanle screen brightness it will last all day.
SSD Pro just announced 😊 This gives you charging, HDMI, and 10G USB :)
Ok I just signed up for the full package - fingers crossed
China just said, “hold my beer”. 😮
I want this for my Samsung but not for recording just for backing up videos and pics and audiobooks. Especially when you change phones more than once a year
For that use you just use a regular usb C flash drive.
U need yo use a cloud instead
For that use a cloud is better in my opinion. Or just use a usbC flash drive.
Niceeeee.. to bad can't order to my country
It’s got a built in grappling hook. Built in printing. Ps5 controller. Built in frill, car jack…. Why not just wait till they send you a unit?
Our production sample units will not be available until around the end of the Campaign. This is truly a Crowdfunded project. 😊
Saweet🎉
But if you’re going to spend that much money to rig out your phone like the beast grip where it’s this massive thing that you’ve spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on overall (lens monitor, etc etc) why not buy an FX3 to begin with?
My take on that is that they are probably targeting people who are buying this setup for a phone they already own, not people buying a phone to fit this setup, if you know what I mean. Also, a camera won’t have all the apps and features a smartphone has, such as being able to instantly edit in the field and utilize cloud storage to transfer edits, etc.
Exactly! Which is why I designed this to really be minimal and also priced reasonably where as you dont need to rig it or use spend hundreds simply on ND filters etc.
I assumed the case are future prove for iphone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
I don’t know how you can assume that… Apple has made no statements regarding the sizes of the next generation phones…
@@pdcorlis why can't a consumer assumed the company is building something towards a new product as well rather than staying at 15 Pro and Pro Max model in kick starter stage? Are you hearing yourself for this? If you're a business owner or creating this models, are you going to build something base on iphone 14 and 15 models only? surely you have to anticipate and think ahead...think before you type something.
wish it was for s24 ultra.
I'll but it nice it's released. I've been burned way too many times with these fundme type setups....
Completely Understand 😊 Me too actually, literally some are actually scams. As you can see in my campaign we have our real names and faces and back it 100%. See you on the other side of the campaign 😊
What stand are you using? I’ve been looking for an adjustable one
nice
I have rarely seen a report as confused as this one.
It tells bandwiths about apple, when a third party company has to design something like this 😀
Needs a fan or it will overheat and drop frames outdoors.
I’ve used a wide variety of cases, grips and recorded probably 7-10+ TB of Apple LOG footage. Not once has my phone ever overheated. I’m not located in Death Valley with 100+ degree temps but yeah I’ve never experienced issues with heating on the 15 Pro Max
Have yet to encounter an issue in the hot Australian sun 🌞 The thermal Tech case when it make contact with Cinema Grip does move alot of heat out of the phone having a massive chunk of aluminium essentially turns it into a giant heatsink. Part of the reason why we needed to have a Aluminium design :)
I am in Texas, the issue I'm encountering with overheating is that the screen dims significantly, and I experience dropped frames on the Blackmagic app. I mounted a cooler fan and the problem is resolved.
@@ROBGFILMS I would imagine perhaps you have phone on a Tripod in direct sunlight? The Cinema Grip essentally acts like a massive passive heatsink, but again active cooling is always going to be better than Passive and if you are going to rig the phone out, perhaps a full rig might be better to use.
@@chunkykizza on a gimbal outdoors in semi direct sunlight for short time causes the over heating. adding the cooler fan fixed the issue. 90 degree weather.
i rather get tilta khronos instead of this
As with everything iPhone. It's not future proof. The next version of phone will probably incompatible due to size, change in design, etc. I hate that for these great 3rd party tools... but it's something I always consider. But then again, I tend to hang on to my phones for 3-4yrs unless there is something seriously innovative. Good luck to this company. I'd like to get them a shot, but need to think about it a bit more...
Thanks for the feedback :) Creator here 😊 Unfortunately being a 3rd party we don't know what companies will do with their products like sizes etc.
Have you use it and is this company is genuine?
We are a startup, but official samples are currently being made ready to send to some people to review :)
…an iPhone. Surely?

Wait a minute... So... If you're using the case with the SSD drive... there's no way you can charge your iPhone? No extra USB-C port anywhere? REALLY?
I must be missing something. Otherwise.it's DOA.
Did you watch to the part where they have an accessory coming that’ll have two extra USB C ports and a CF express? Also I have no issue with the port being taken up while using the minimal SSD. Battery life hasn’t been an issue in my uses but yes for those wanting multiple ports it’ll have that option.
@@initialfocus Yes I did. I'm sure there was room in the case for an extra USB-C port, though. Will you be able to use the SSD enclosure while using the USB-C "hub" module, or are they mutually exclusive?
So I had originally thought this was a requirement too when designing the Cinema Grip, but after actually using the iPhone for filming I never found myself needing to charge and film at the same time, I could comfortably film for a whole day without needing to charge on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I designed this not to be a beastgrip or Khronos killer, these have their own purposes especially if you are using a phone as an A camera (Would not recommend, just buy a Pocket 4K) but Cinema Grip is something else where I think other manufacturers have missed the mark. For me and how I use my iPhone, my phone is a phone first, camera second. The design for its first iteration needed to be something that was durable, easy to manufacture and most of all portable. For me When I take my phone with me on holidays or on a roadtrip I don't make sure I am charging my phone while I whip my phone out and take some videos haha, it's charged and then I use it.
@@chunkykizza "I designed this not to be a beastgrip or Khronos killer"
There's a whole chart on your funding page that attempts to compare your product favorably to Khronos :)
SSD Pro just announced 😊 Has a huge functionality boost including charging
In some ways, Ipho-vedeography is just so wasteful. The gear is useless as soon as the phone is superseded and from day one, phone cameras are so comprimised.
Do you have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max? These cameras are insanely good 😊
Backer #42 - supporting my local creators as they are literally just up the road from me! @chunkykizza
Hey O! 👋 Thanks mate!
