    I've seen 2 firsts in this video, 7 mowers working for the same farm and a lad mowing in his pyjamas!!!!! 😀

    Non farmer here
    Perhaps the lower cut on the back mower could be due to undulating ground, perhaps the tractor wheel dropped into a pothole
    Question, you've mentioned on here that silage not eaten overnight is removed from the cows and fed to the cattle, so how long will silage keep in the clamp, if you get to the end of the season and you still have silage left in your clamp, can you keep adding fresh to it or does it need using up totally.
    Farming is a gamble for sure, enough for your stock, but if the winter is extended or TB requires your stock numbers to increase, quite easy to become short
    Guess like gamblers, farmer's Farming is an addition at times
    Another great video, and slowly getting upto date
    Geoff

    How come you do the outside rounds with the front mower beside the hedge and not the rear. Surely lots of missed bits for going clockwise around the feild instead of anticlockwise?

    • @FarmTheoryNI
      @FarmTheoryNI  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Much easier to keep the front mower full rather than the side?

      @@FarmTheoryNI I understand for long work just thought to maximise cutting width just thought it keeps feilds tidier on the headlands for taking a little less on 3or4 outside rounds 🤷‍♂️

    We added red clover to our Italian ryegrass about 5 years ago to fill out the bottom so there was very little or no dirt to be seen
    Increased grass yield significantly Although difficult to wilt red clover will smother the Italian in further cuts to a point where its not obvious you are growing any Italian.Red clover loves warm moist conditions and thrives with 4/5 week cutting
    I dare you to try it

    I got some grass lifted today. I cut it myself on Thursday afternoon, and then I rowed up myself later on yesterday and buckraked it today. When it's guaranteed dry, it saves me money, being able to most of the work myself.
    I'd definitely have cut that 70 acre acre, then get it rowed up a day before the harvester to let the ground dry up, especially when you were finished the first block of land at 3!

    I'd have thought you would have a farm map uploaded to the tractors with wet spots and various other points of interest so that others like David could do field work without getting bogged or hitting Manhole covers (like TomP).

    Mow it today
    Then cut it first on Saturday
    that way if it is a little dryer you can put the wet silage that you chopped on Saturday on top of the dry stuff

    You won’t get this in time I’m sure… but… raking so the field can dry is always the best option if necessary. The raked grass won’t dry out as much as it would leaving it 2 days in the swath. And any chance of drying out a field more before running even more equipment over it is best for the future crop.

    7 mowers cutting 70 acres= 10 acres each.......i'm surprised any one was prepared to come and cut a small acreage it would take them longer to put there mowers on the tractor than it does doing the mowing

      Say in the video that the contractor was being paid by the acre. Must have made sense to them.

      If you’re getting mowers in why have your own? Depreciation, work diesel etc. This is coming from Australia where we could cut 250 acres at a time with 1 tractor and mowers. Just keep at it 🤷‍♂️

  • @seangaynor7458
    @seangaynor7458 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think your dad is right wasting money on hired help when you have such good equipment of your own seems a bit mad also the suger content of your grass is higher in the evening which should give you better quality silage with higher energy levels

    • @FarmTheoryNI
      @FarmTheoryNI  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's about giving it time to dry, that was the priority. The sugar levels change is very little, it's kinda a myth.
