Yo Buildzoid, it's the daily driver. Don't stress over the pedestrian memory settings, because it always works. I'm around a lot of car guys and the smart ones daily drive a boring Ford or Toyota because the last thing you want to do in the morning is undo your tinkering to drive to work. It's not being a poser, it's being practical my dude.

Bro, I bought a Sapphire Toxic 6900 XT LC and I had to zip-tie a CPU fan to it to replace the VRM fan, DAY ONE, because they shipped it to me with a broken fan that only has maximum fan speed.
It couldn't ramp down, it was always 3000 RPM so I put a CPU fan on it instead. Sniped the deal for $600, though.

I absolutely loved the Genesis, it cooled my >1,4v 5GHz 2500k at ~75°C for nearly 8 years. There was a bunch of german forum threads about how to fit these Prolimatech coolers on Am4 (3d printed brackets, using other manufacturers mounting kits etc) and to make these solutions available to the community, some people managed to do it but never anything that could be done without a lot of effort. Glad to see this relic is getting another life in your system!

I love your personal system because it reminds me of my personal system, which is separate from my test bench. I still have a GTX Titan Z in my PC, and no, I didn’t pay $3,000 for it! I got it for only $200 because the previous owner wasn’t sure if it would work. Interestingly, it’s an EVGA card. I didn’t think any AIB would produce a GTX Titan Z given the small market, and I don’t recall if Nvidia was offering GPUs directly at that time

Thermal putty is awesome, I personally switched to CX-H1300(13,5w/mk) for my ASRock PG 7900XTX but I would have got the Upsiren UTP-8 if i'd purchased today.
Good putty performs just as good as good pads, without all the problems you just mentioned yourself.
If no alteranative TIM suitable for vram/vrm with significant improvements comes to be, I don't see myself returning to pads anytime soon.

I use tie-wraps as obstacles to keep fan still as well. Not because I have actually seen significant damage inflicted on header/bearings/blades/etc. just that it's easy enough to avoid and there is no need to test the hypothesis that it does cause damage.

@@umeng2002 I agree that is not much discussed, though I have heard it said at least once on an early Linus LTT YT video suggesting not arbitrarily spinning up fans. Pragmatically, I think you can clear the dust more effectively if the fan is not spinning and as I said, there is no reason to test the hypothesis that it does cause damage. :)

@@x8jason8x Agree technical channels tell you this. I guess people don't remember until is happens to them. I think the bigger risk is that electric motors can also act as generators: if you spin the blades with air you generate a voltage. Spin them fast enough and you can burn out the header of the IC on the motherboard that drives the fan. So just replacing the fan wont fix things.

I figured the shroud has to add enough air pressure to offset the lesser airflow. I even re-pasted using Thermal Grizzly Extreme. Only 5c worse, but still worse never made sense. So i have a question, if you can please answer ( if you experienced anything similar ever in your Overclocking )
Why FCLK Boosted to 2400mhz and UCLK boosted to 3200mhz for default RAM DDR5 4800 MT/S.
This is on ASUS TUF B650 motherboard, with latest bios ( 2615 ).
This happened when i pressed "Load optimized defaults", meaning i turned off EXPO or any other overclocking setting. Pure "Auto" on everything. If i run EXPO 5600 MT/s or 6000MT/s it is also happening ( FCLK and UCLK are auto boosting up for some reason ). RAM that i use is on QVL of the motherboard

That situation that you had with the 1700X reminds me of my Z97 Pro 4790K Haswell system after I added additional 16GB of RAM to max it out at 32GB the system became very unstable and it as soon as it would boot into Windows it would give me a bluescreen so I had to either up the voltage of the memory or downclock the memory. I ended up upping the voltage to 1.65V and it became stable then now I run the memory at stock clocks and voltage now because it is being used as a utility system.

I'd imagine you could just have a rad + 2 or 3 120mm fans sit upright with a couple of foot brackets on one end using the threads that are there, like washers. Which, then you could point fan exhaust over the memory. Then you would just need to remove the block on the cpu and the aio/rad could be moved around when testing other processors. Would be slightly more cumbersome, but you would have more headroom to tinker.

It typically hovers 320 to 340 in games. Some games can max out the power limit, but it's rare. Have not tested any 3D mark tests on it, but I'd imagine that it would smash into the power limit there.

Hey, just checking if u have any video on general ddr5 ram timings/tweaking.
    Getting a new build with 7800x3d, MSI x670e mobo and Patriot DDR5 RAM 32GB (2X16GB) 7000MT/s CL32 UDIMM
Currently im running mobo and sticks from this vid and similarly tweaked.
    th-cam.com/video/WtucSUA5TOI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking
These are the timings of the ram on XMP:
    • Tested Frequency XMP Profile 1: PC5-56000 (7000MT/s)
    • Tested Timings: 32-48-48-96
    • Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 1: 1.45V
    • Tested Frequency XMP Profile 2: PC5-54400 (6800MT/s)
    • Tested Timings: 34-44-44-84
    • Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 2: 1.4V
    • Tested Frequency XMP Profile 3: PC5-52800 (6600MT/s)
    • Tested Timings: 34-40-40-84
    • Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 3: 1.4V

he has a video called easy ddr5 timings, use that. you are also running in 2:1 mode which = byebye performance unless you are running 7600+mhz vs 1:1 6000mhz, if you can run 6200 in 1:1 then you need to run 7800-8000mhz in 2:1 to compete depending on timings.

@@luvingyouu Alright thanks alot for the information,
I picked patriot viper for ram since i was running them in my current ddr4 build,
Would you say its a good choice again for ddr5 or is there any better options?

@@Haxete Ram manufactur doesn't matter too much (though some imo have better populated pcbs than the lower brands or kits) what really matters if it is hynix memory sticks over samsung or micron for ddr5. You can always look up your ram model # in the memory QVL tab on motherboard websites or check cpu-z to see if it is hynix. M die isn't really made anymore (except for 24-48gb sticks) so expect it to be A die, which is good ;P

Why? A single CCD chip like 7800x3d is very bandwidth crippled what benefit do you have over lower MT/s and tighter timings and latency? (Edit: This is a genuine question)

@@rankcolour8780 I'm just running this for fun and hvm isn't working for me when using 1:1 so this gives the lowest latency atm, all timings are minimized.
On a previous bios I benchmarked 7800c36/2167 vs 6400c30/2133 across 11 games and found no significant performance difference - 7800 was 0.5% faster on average. The testing was rough - only using built in benchmarks but I checked it was all cpu limited and used a 4090 at 1080p.

Most of my actual gaming is GPU limited anyway so it doesn't matter - I just like running 7800c32 at 1.75v for the hell of it and to see what happens long term.

im having disturbing flashbacks to the printer from office space lol
i mean with a typical air compressor, you'd pretty much have to be trying to blow out a fan header even..... assuming everything was in good working order... i wouldnt say its impossible - highly improbable. you can definitely generate enough power back into the board to turn on some leds tho
there should some reverse current protection on the board. just a diode i would think is fine but there should definitely be a diode
