I love that at 3:05 you mention that Kreutzwald was a son of a serf ( in his younger years he himself was a serf). It really shows what an accomplishment for the people of Estonia it was. To add Kreutzwald also was a doctor and graduated in 1833 from the faculty of medicine at The University of Tartu, from where only 13 years prior to that the first (recorded) Estonian, Kristjan Jaak Peterson entered and graduated from. To put to perspective the situation of Estonians before the national awakening and abolishment of serfdom, the University of Tartu was the only one in the Estonian area and had been existing since 1632. Meaning it took around 200 years before the first openly Estonian student started studying there.
Great video, absolutely loved it as I do whenever someone talks about our nation. Anyhow, wanted to point out 2 things 1 - you shouldve mentioned that the right wing autocrat who seized power in 1934 had been the president since independence, and did so because he was going to lose the upcoming election 2 - while it is true that there we're many conscripts, the vast majority of Estonians in the Nazi army were volunteers because of the animosity towards the Russians and also because Germany claimed to be a liberator and was accepted as such at first.
For a super quick history it's not particularily important, but of course it is important to us, Estonians, and I agree 100%. The one thing I must clarify though is that there were many volunteers conscripting to Wehrmacht, but it was not because we're Nazis but because during the short Soviet occupation from June 17th 1940 to December 3rd 1941 the Soviets managed to wreak so much havoc, mass murdering people, mass deporting people to Siberia from infants to elderly, with no extra clothes, shelter or proper tools and with a daily ration of bread that feeds a grown person for an hour. We weren't even clear on the Nazi Germany's perspective at that time. My dear wife and therefore my kids are alive today because her grandfather was arrested for a "kulak" in 1941 and shot to death in Novosibirsk, but her grandmother managed to hide and evade the deportation with the kids, with help from the locals. That's how close it still is, although it happened 80 years ago. And come to think of it, I'm only here because my own grandparents, who didn't know each other at the time, were deported from Karjala to Estonia. So I'm a descendant of immigrants. Wiki pole just kõige adekvaatsem allikas, aga siiski, on teada, et saime brittidelt kuulipildureid ja muid tulirelvi.
Yes they did you liar
Why leave out all the bad part of Estonian history ? you make em out as nice and fluffy, they aint, not a word how they were first to total massacre of their jews or how Estonian serf rebellion where they killed every one richer then them ? or how pro N/Z (youtube dont like the word) that you call gorrila rezistance were in fact bands of marauders named "forest brothers" hell they have N/Z parades to this day it was one of reasons USSR did a partial relocation of people from that place (Funnily enough it was Estonian who snitched on Estonians to get their shit when they were sent of to Siberia )
"Thousands Russian were imported to Russophay the land " That is out right slander Russian were sent there Cose after the war there was No specialist or teachers or any masters of the craft on top of how USSR school system was built (After you get your profession for free you had to work on it 2-5 years depending on job in place Gov. see it needs this worker the most)
Sir you dont give history you give out pro Estonian Propaganda And anti -Russian for some reason even tho Estonians were doing awful shait Germanz, N/Z and Danish, Swedish .
Especial the Last part from 80's to today pure BS with Estonia, EU - Good, Soviet's - Bad even tho Estonian Quality of Life under USSR were Much higher then today
Mr History - More like i read Propaganda and repeat it to you on TH-cam for eyeball time
Your antichristianism is biased and deeply dishonnest ! Jesus said if your son is drowning, even if it is shabbat, you have to save him ! (Luke 14, 5).
Those pagans were doing razzias, stealing churches and killing for human sacrifices. You think the Chuch should have had the eyes closed as you seem to have ?
What's the antichristian part here?
