He wasn't in a guard position for it to be scored a sweep.

Yea I don't understand that either considering he was on bottom in side control then scrambled back to being on top.
@@michaeltrossbach684 any guard (full, half, delariva, x guard ect) being in side control is not a guard. His guard was passed Danis just scrambled his way back on top. I believe they were using an IBJJF rule set.

As someone practicing BJJ and Muay Thai, I'm telling you Khabib is the Messi of MMA. The fact he tricked Dustin Poirier (black belt BJJ) by falling into his guillotine intentionally to tire him and then finishing him off with a choke sums up just why Khabib is rated so highly by experts.

I'm not convinced. Meregali was never in a position to submit Danis. Danis challenged the knee over and over. Meregali only won became of the lame scoring system around sweeps and mounts.

I used to think so too but the gi is very useful. You never know how a street fight will be, you or your opponent could be wearing a sweater, a jacket, a t shirt. That could be used to your advantage or disadvantage.
daddy agreed I used to think the same. I know a lot of people in security and gi grips are apparently super useful for moving people around on the feet and protecting yourself.

Gi is useful to learn how to deal with (pants especially) grips that may be there in an actual fight. But it's definitely overemphasized from a fighting perspective.
