So it's actually a female name Edit: also Phlegethon in greek mithology was one of the five rivers of the underworld (with styx, lethe, cocytus and ancheron). Also apparently it was a river of fire or something like that
The best part of Phlegethon is that this cameo boss's name was supposed to be Titan, except there was already a Titan in FF14, and it can be spelled two different ways in Japanese so that's fine - but for English they changed him to Acheron, based on Titan's palette swap from the original game. Except later on they added Acheron too, so they swapped to a different river and had to retroactively scrub all reference to Acheron and shoehorn in some dialogue about how Acheron and Phlegethon were both legendary warriors that sometimes got confused in-world too.
Fun Fact: Phlegethon is one of the rivers in the Underworld in Greek Mythology like the river Styx those Phlegethon is a river of fire and flows into the depths of Tartarus And second fun fact Thanatos is the Greek personification of death and is basically just the grim reaper.

Well talking about translating into multiple languages, how about you put a random sentence or song lyric into google translate way to many times and draw whatever comes out.
The whole "thinking hard enough about a thing makes it real"-thing reminded me of the Orks in Warhammer 40.000, they have a similar mechanic where if enough Orks believe something, it becomes reality: vehicles go faster when they paint them red for example. So now I wanna see you guys draw some Warhammer 40k units that you have never heard about! There's a lot of fun designs and concepts in that universe, not just the Orks! So please, give it a shot! Hiya, I have a suggestion for you: Please draw in reverse, starting with colouring then moving to ink. You can't do an undersketch first but you can thumbnail or jot down your ideas. Day three of suggesting this.
Acknowledging that I know absolutely nothing about either Japanese as a language OR the origins and linguistics of Sefirot beyond this comment, so this is entirely speculation, buuuut... Well what if Sephiroth was actually supposed to be Sephiros, but the same translation confusion that brought about the Aerith/Aeris issue swapped Sephiroth and Sephiros, but without the name correction from later iterations as the name works both ways whereas Aerith was meant to be an anagram for Earth. A quick Google search also confirms they both use the same Kanji for the end of their names so S and TH are both potentially proper translations

Well what if Sephiroth was actually supposed to be Sephiros, but the same translation confusion that brought about the Aerith/Aeris issue swapped Sephiroth and Sephiros, but without the name correction from later iterations as the name works both ways whereas Aerith was meant to be an anagram for Earth.
A quick Google search also confirms they both use the same Kanji for the end of their names so S and TH are both potentially proper translations
