In this game, the first wrong choice he (Bull King) made was when he, with Wukong, decided to declare war with the Celestial Court. In the novel it was only Wukong. He then was repressed by Buddha for 500 years to atone himself until Tank Monk recruited him to the journey as a part of the destiny. In this version of the game, we can see he was fighting along with Bull King, and after the defeat of the Havoc in Heaven's Palace event, Bull King’s family was punished as his wife (Rakshasi, or Princess Iron Fan) was forced to bear a child by drinking water from the river, and they were restrained in their place. The second wrong choice was when the team of Tang Monk encountered Bull King’s family on their journey to the west. There Bull King chose to stand up against Wukong and the Court’s will again. This led to his total defeat as the second wife (a fox guai) was killed by Zhu Bajie, and his son (Red Boy) was sent to Guanyin to be a disciple in order to learn some manners. Wukong said to him that the only way out for the likes of them was to serve the right and have a position in the enlightenment, like Wukong became the Victorious Fighting Buddha. But when he heard that his second wife was killed, he became outraged and disobeyed, driving the force of the Celestial Court to oppress him once again. As a powerful Demon Yaoguai like Wukong, his head was cut but he was not dead, however, he submitted to Heaven. The third time was probably after the intro event of the game, as Wukong realized no matter what they did, the Court will always see them as “a transgression”, something that needed to be controlled and they will never be free. This time he chose to be on the side with the Court until the final moment of Wukong and heard what we viewed in the Chapter ending. This time, he chose not to consume the relic as Wukong said and only kept it for years, despite his son finding out about his true identity and their history, thus demanding the relic so that he could take revenge. This leads to the setting of the game in Chapter 5. These are just my interpretations based on what I’ve known and read. I just found out if you beat the Daoist Scorpion in Chapter IV, and return back to the secret entrance of Purple Cloud Mountain, next to it there will be a tomb of the Violet Spider lady, and an item lays in front of it, according to the lore of the novel, that item is used to keep dead body from corruption, and acquired by Bajie, so touching.

This is how I understand the story: Bull and Wukong were bros so they revolted against the emperor and the heavenly court together. The court forced rakshasi to have a demon child because it’s her destiny. But red boy wants the relic to avenge bull and rakshasi because he loves his family. Bull is reluctant because he’s torn between his destiny with the court and letting red boy avenge. As a punishment the court sends various deities to condemn Bull and his family and confines Bull under a tower for eternity. And WuKong was fighting Bull too because he was under the control of the court because of the gold headband thing. After Wukong was defeated at the beginning of the game, one of the relic was given to Bull because he followed courts destiny and went against his bro Wukong. Please can anyone who knows the story well let me know if I’m missing anything? I love stories in this game so much. They really make you rethink good and evil.
Pretty close, except that Wukong was fighting Bull cauz Bull is somehow designated as one of the 81 obstacles Wukong's group had to overcome through their journey to the West. Dude was actually living a relatively low-profile life after they were defeated, accepting his role as an insignificant pawn to raise Red Boy, up until the group showed up and took everything he's got in the name of righteousness. You can hear Wukong trying to convince Bull that finding a master and serving the right is the only option left for likes of them so that he wouldn't do anything drastic, but what Bajie's said enraged Bull to go against Buddhas and court once again for how they toyed with him. He failed miserably and got disciplined again, and Wukong feels pretty bad about having to go against Bull, his sworn brother, just cauz he was serving the "right" now, too. Fast forward to the intro of the game, Bull is one of the five Yaoguais summoned to defeat Wukong. A lot older now, Bull has more concerns and fears now according to himself, so he has to answer the summoning in case anything hideous happens to him and his family. Then comes the scene where Wukong collapses into Bull's lap and opens up about the past, telling him the ones higher up would never let likes of them live a peaceful life no matter what and to take care of his family. Btw red Boy is just a tool that allows the celestial court to go against Buddhas in the future when they see fit. Yes, the celestial court, which represents Taoism, and Buddas, are "business partners (especially when it comes to Wukong)" and rivals (usually in a more covert rather than overt way) at the same time. Buddhas and monks slaughtered all Red Boy's kind (Yaksha) to occupy Mount Ling and established their authority there, and the court knows that's something Buddhas, which represent humanity and kindness, don't want the public to know. In one of the previous cutscenes, the keeper says Red Boy will be the perfect evidence for what's happened at Mount Ling as the last Yaksha.

Red Boy's fire is called "three flavor true fire"三昧真火, it's extremely powerful even Wu Kong can't handle it so finally he asked Guanyin Buddha for help, then Red Boy was subdued by Guanyin and became her disciple, so how come he end up here??? He's a deity now!!! This story diverged too much!!
I really wish they had given our character a voice, give him some dialogue, let us know how he feels about the things he’s experiencing, what he’s thinking…it would add so much more immersion to the game instead of having to guess at what he’s thinking..Wukongs voice actor for the opening sequence would have done nicely

There's a another tiger boss in chapter 2 that you need to go and jump into a well, a kid will bring you there. You need to use the drum on certain places.
If I am not mistaken, the goddess with wheels on its feet is one of the bull's daughter. Also, Erlang is actually kinda frienemy with Wukong since Wukong helped Erlang's mom. I think this whole thing is Erlang's way to help Wukong to be free from Budha's headband which is through death. Then he shall be reborn a free monkey.

He failed miserably and got disciplined again, and Wukong feels pretty bad about having to go against Bull, his sworn brother, just cauz he was serving the "right" now, too. Fast forward to the intro of the game, Bull is one of the five Yaoguais summoned to defeat Wukong. A lot older now, Bull has more concerns and fears now according to himself, so he has to answer the summoning in case anything hideous happens to him and his family. Then comes the scene where Wukong collapses into Bull's lap and opens up about the past, telling him the ones higher up would never let likes of them live a peaceful life no matter what and to take care of his family.
Btw red Boy is just a tool that allows the celestial court to go against Buddhas in the future when they see fit. Yes, the celestial court, which represents Taoism, and Buddas, are "business partners (especially when it comes to Wukong)" and rivals (usually in a more covert rather than overt way) at the same time. Buddhas and monks slaughtered all Red Boy's kind (Yaksha) to occupy Mount Ling and established their authority there, and the court knows that's something Buddhas, which represent humanity and kindness, don't want the public to know. In one of the previous cutscenes, the keeper says Red Boy will be the perfect evidence for what's happened at Mount Ling as the last Yaksha.

There's a another tiger boss in chapter 2 that you need to go and jump into a well, a kid will bring you there. You need to use the drum on certain places.

If I am not mistaken, the goddess with wheels on its feet is one of the bull's daughter. Also, Erlang is actually kinda frienemy with Wukong since Wukong helped Erlang's mom. I think this whole thing is Erlang's way to help Wukong to be free from Budha's headband which is through death. Then he shall be reborn a free monkey.
