Thx for that. Very competent at DIY and used to make uPVC windows. Never fitted a restrictor but have to fit one. Even better is the fact you have used the exact ones I'm getting from Screwfix. Ordered left and right will take back the one I don't need. Thx very informative.
Thankyou paddy for that video, Very nicely demonstrated and most importantly with safety in mind for those people passing below you. I've just bough some of these to fit, and they do have a little bit of weight in them so if you accidentally drop one from a height whilst fitting it, it could injur someone on the footpath below, so you could also maybe tie a string on it or you could put a little cordon around your area to reduce accidents. Safety first DIY second. Thanks again god bless
Great video. Helped me install mine. I bought some restrictors from Amazon and they linked to your video. Pretty sure you're not affiliated with the company "Aongray".
Great video and good demonstration- thanks. BUT how does this restrictor prevent intruders getting in? Surely an intruder could do what you did to release the hook arm from the stud, and then open up the window fully. My reason for wanting restrictors is to stop intruder access when windows are open at night to give ventilation. I can see how these would work for pets or very young children, but not wiley intruders. Please advise! Thank you 😊
Really helpful video - thank you. Can I please ask a favour about a previous video called " How to Replace The Rollers On An Aluminium Sliding Patio Door"? Could you recommend anyone in Galway to help replace rollers on a patio door? Thanks so much
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, how do you remove a stuck or jammed restrictor. My window does not open much anymore. Nay help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Sounds like the bar could be bent. I you push it out far enough to get access to the screws. Remove it that way. Either straighten it out or replace it
Thanks, Paddy. Helpful video. I think I have a similar window, but iI am not sure what the white plastic thing is at 3.15 next to where you holding the catch. The white plastic piece slide as long the frame, but what does it do?
Great video!. I have top hung windows only and read somewhere i need restrictors on both sides of the window, is this true?. Also where did you get the packing pieces?. Thanks
No i haven't heard of any requirements like that in Ireland. Only problem with fitting them on both sides is that it makes it a lot harder to release them. If you google window hinge packers you should find them.
Hi Paddy, thanks for your video. I have all the restrictors but cannot locate "packers" as shown in the video. Can you please let me know if any hardware shop in Dublin stocks them, or where xan I get them Thanks Martin
No I'm afraid not. If you deactivate it from it's intended operation you run the risk of forgetting about deactivating it. And then it will be deactivated when you need it to work

Search for lockable window restrictors? They are more or less the same thing as the ones in the video. Wouldn't recommend leaving the window open to let the cats in and out. These type of restrictors wouldn't offer much of an security. A burgular would have them ripped off in seconds. They're purely to stop accidents with small children. Your best looking for a catflap
Thanks, tried searching for lockable, buy they limit opening to 100mm which is to wide, I need no more than 3cm of opening so the cats can't get out. I have the cable locks on the windows, but it's a pain with my Insect nets, as the cable is so long. That's why when I saw these than actually fit on the window, I can then have my insect nets up no problem. I also have security grilles on the windows too. All aspects covered, cats, insects and burglars.
Ah i see. Most window restrictors will quote 100mm. Because 100mm is the maximum allowable distance that a window restrictors are allowed to open. The restrictors in the video only allow the window to open about 80mm. The amount of opening depends on where you fit them on the window, and it also depends on the window frame itself. So it's hard to know really

What a great video. Taught me everything I need to know to do this job. Thanks so much! 😀
Glad it was helpful!
What a brilliant video. Will be fitting restrictor's at my Grandsons house on Sunday hope all goes as easily as you make it look. Thankyou.

Yeah, good point. String on the restrictor would be a good idea 👍
Great video thanks, full explanation to get the job done.👍
Glad it helped 👍
Thanks. They should send a link to your video with every pack.
Cheers
Bought some on Amazon with no instructions but there’s a QR code that brings you to this video 😂
🤔 do you have a link to the ones you bought
Same thing happened to me 'aongray' brand ones
Same lol
Yep same here!
Great video. Helped me install mine.

Great instructions. Thank you. Nice to hear a local accent around this place.?

Great video as always .Thanks Paddy 👍
Hi @Paddy's DIY - Great video and very helpful. Can you please share a link to where you purchased the packers from? Thanks.
Just what I needed. Thank you👍🏽

They're only designed to prevent children from falling out windows. Not security. Google jackloc. They have products more security orientated
@@PaddysDiy thanks for your helpful reply - much appreciated 👍🏻
Thanks for video, You have saved me lot of money becouse I had similar problem and I fix it on my own after watching video. ;-)
Glad it helped 👍

I'm afraid i don't know anyone in galway
@@PaddysDiy So sorry for delayed reply. Just wanted to say thanks for answering - appreciate it.
Great video...u save me alot of time...

My widows has metal reaforsment inside all round the widows an the screws won't go through how do I get around that?
Great job 👏
Thank you 👍

How do you remove them?
Had these fitted by window people and now the side where the restrictor is, is not allowing the window to seal on the side of the restrictor.
Hi, won't the screw possibly break the seal of the window when drilled in from the side?
Not if the screws are short. 20mm long approx
@@PaddysDiy Thanks
Why do you install the restrictions in the channel closest to the seal?
How would you fit them if the windows open towards the inside of the room and not towards the outside the house as they are in the video? Thanks!
They don't generally work on tilt and turn windows I'm afraid. You'd need a different type of restrictor
Thanks, Paddy. Helpful video. I think I have a similar window, but iI am not sure what the white plastic thing is at 3.15 next to where you holding the catch. The white plastic piece slide as long the frame, but what does it do?
It's a riser block. They're to keep the window sash lined up in the window frame
@@PaddysDiy Thank you, that makes sense.

No i haven't heard of any requirements like that in Ireland. Only problem with fitting them on both sides is that it makes it a lot harder to release them. If you google window hinge packers you should find them.
Is it possible to use this type of restrictor on a "tilt and turn" type sash?
It's possible, but they're not really designed for them

will they do for a Tilt and Turn window
This may be a silly question, but what kind of drill attachment are you using to hold the screws when drilling them into the pvc?
I think it is a PH2
Hello. Are you in Cork by any chance? Looking to fit restrictors on aluminum windows. Thank you
I'm afraid not. I don't know anyone in Cork i could recommend
@@PaddysDiy no worries. Will try myself 👍👍

Hi I'm wanting the same thing, but needs a key to open. Can't find anything, only one that opens to 100mm which is too wide for my cats.
