    The best part about FFXIV is that it's a game that respects your time. It doesn't punish you for not playing, and you can leave for months and come back without missing a beat.

    ffxiv is one of the few games I've finished in years... and it's technically five games in one. I started playing last August, and finished Shadowbringers the day Endwalker released. EW is more than just a game to me now, it actually helped me cope with real life anxieties... particularly about losing my hubby. I often think I probably won't be able to go on without him, but I would probably play through EW again to hopefully find a way to cope with it, it's main theme is what makes life worth living when it seems like all hope is lost? It goes through all the philosophies that have been debated for the meaning of life. It also made me cry... a lot.

      It makes sense for them. For content creators like them, their time is more valuable (to create content in general). With gacha games, you throw a few hundred to a few thousand dollars every so often, but you play only 1-2hrs a day, and you're done with your dopamine hit. With ffxiv, even if you spend less, you play more, and that hurts their bottom line more.

    FFXIV is so damn good. It's a fantastic blend between MMO and JRPG. Gets better with every expansion and the best thing is that it respects your time. You can stop for a year and all the content will still be there and relevant.

    • @CottidaeSEA
      @CottidaeSEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A year later and the content is still relevant? Not exactly. I suppose in some ways, but mostly not. They do a far better job than other MMORPGs though. RuneScape is the only one I can think of that is potentially doing it better.

    • @KumaNicol
      @KumaNicol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@CottidaeSEA The only thing I dislike about FF is it's overly dick suck-y community. No, it def does not stay relevant long at all, like stated, probably best / far better then all other MMO's, but not forever, and not eve for too long. That's like if I said WoW's content is always relevant cause you can go farm transmog and mounts, sure, but its not "relevant"
      I am sure people don't overpraise it on purpose, but it does annoy me quite a bit, we have a 9.5/10 game here, fucking amazing, so theres no need to lie / overstate it, let the game speak for tiself.

    • @CottidaeSEA
      @CottidaeSEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShojiKareza Sort of, but I'd honestly say WoW content is pretty much as relevant as FFXIV content. The thing that makes FFXIV stand out is the level sync and ilvl sync, which is there to make sure you can still have a challenge while doing the content. Though that can be removed, which most people do when actually farming for the stuff they want.
      Besides that, they tend to reuse materials from previous expansion zones, which I think is nice, and reduces the amount of new items they need to add, and you don't make everything out of the same materials. However, even WoW does that to some extent.
      That's kind of what Lucas Nicol wrote, the FFXIV community really exaggerate how good it is. It's a great game, I do have over 2000 hours played after all, but it's still exaggerated greatly.

    • @CottidaeSEA
      @CottidaeSEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KumaNicol Yeah, the only things that I'd consider relevant is MSQ content, and that's simply because it's forced.
      Outside of that, they have level sync and ilvl sync, which ensures you can still challenge content at a level where it should be roughly equivalent to when it was first released. That's good and all, but doesn't make the content relevant.
      Some people think that since you can farm tomestones in earlier dungeons through roulettes means that the content is relevant, but it's really not. That's just a way to make sure that new players don't have a miserable experience and can do the MSQ since you usually only level up one character.

We got a TON of new players before the expansion due to the Wowfugees.... pair that with people coming back for the EW expansion (there was a long content drought) and you've got a ton of new players + returning players all logging in to play. I've never seen so many people play before (been playing since 2.0) lol it's insane.

    The thing about FFXIV is that it's a fully fledged Final Fantasy game. While most MMOs are all about the gameplay loop and keeping you playing as long as possible, FFXIV has a classic FF narrative (in fact, possibly the best one in the franchise) that keeps you interested and immersed while also providing a great gameplay loop. This means that people searching for an MMO experience will still find that, while people more interested in the RPG aspect of things can engage with the game in an almost singleplayer way, enriched by an actual living and populated game world.
    If you have the time to invest into it, there's an insane amount of side content to play through - but if you can't dedicate too much time you can simply play it as you would a normal game and never worry about missing stuff. All content is always relevant and you never feel in a rush to experience the game

    14 is a great comfort game. Literally got me through my first semester of college. Also the game made me cry more than anything else has in my life up to this point. As a game to sit down and enjoy some content every now and then its good, as long as you can put the story down while you're progressing it if you have responsibilities. I get easily tired out by games so its easy for me to do. FF14 is a game about the journey, less so about the end game, which is something very important to keep in mind I think. Most MMOs you rush leveling to reach cap and do raiding, whereas FF14 takes you on an amazing journey that starts out meh, and slowly evolves and builds into one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had. FFXIV is a totally different game compared to when it launched, so I encourage anyone who only tried it in the early years to give it another look. FFXIV is at least one of the MMOs that does not actually engage in many FOMO mechanics like daily chores to the extent that it happens in games like WoW. It's entirely possible to get tons out of the game just playing through the MSQ (main story) and Class/Job quests alone without ever really getting into the MMO aspects. It plays just like a regular FF game, just with an MMO end game.

      FFXIV though, sometimes I'll log in daily for a week, then take a 3 week break from it entirely, and then maybe hop on two evenings a week, simply to do the latest raid series, and the fashion report. And I love the story and characters of this game *way* more than I enjoyed any of the others. The addiction is different though, because the game is different. You are not punished for taking a break. There is no FOMO. No stuff that goes away or becomes irrelevant if you don't "diligently farm" for a month. ffxiv is one of those games that has the best parts of what an mmo is like. I started from runescape and would play mock mmos that attempt at an mmo space but its more of a streamlined single player experience with limitations of actually experiencing an mmo. Wow always interested me but i know i couldnt get into it because that wasnt my kind of game and anything id hear from it was that it was more of a job more than a game. that is until xiv. Xiv shows me all the best visuals i expect from a final fantasy but with xiv there seems to be this combined player experience that is unlike any other game ive seen or played. Yea its mad addicting, they wrote and created a world that seems breathtaking while enticing you with a sense of adventure. the more you dive deep into the world the more you are taken into xiv giving players a more personal experience like that of a singleplayer game but within an mmo. the idea of getting friends together to do raids, hunt for items, and above all bring people together. it isnt perfect, no game is perfect. but if there is one thing xiv has over almost all the games ive seen is its story. ARR is the beginning but ive seen everyone say if you get past ARR you will pass everything and actually take in the world youre playing in. though im madly addicted im just happy people play the game in general because the game has that effect over people which is a marvel to look at. I'm not a hardcore gamer but having the comfort and choice of choosing casual content to harder content is a breath of fresh air and i dont feel like im behind from the high tier players that do that hard content. plus the community too is another bonus to the game as a whole. Though no group is without its toxic player base the majority of the players you come across are actually nice and not trying to piss you off all the time. Xiv is just one of those slowburn animes or shows that you have to put your own investment into to gain what its trying to present. youre rewarded with good story, fun fights, awesome equipment, and above all you are rewarded with a community that loves FF as much as you might do.

    XIV had a fantastic story and music and that kept me going so long... but seriously, I sincerely do not understand how people stay entertained with it once they finish the main story quests. The endgame and gear bored me to tears, loot was so BLAND, I feel like I was always more excited for the cosmetics of gear than I ever was for the stats. Theres no buildcrafting or choices, everything is so standardized there was no room to inject personality into your role or character.
    Regardless, feel like I personally enjoyed FFXIV more like a Single player experience, meaning just finishing the story bits, than I did as a MMO experience, but I still enjoyed it.
    Plus that Free Trial is certainly top of the line for the genre, if anyone wants to dip their toes in its certainly worth it to try.

      You choose your own 'endgame'. Whether it be fashion/glams, savage/ultimates raids, leveling you alt jobs and crafter/gatherer classes, housing, playing the marketboard, completionism with mounts/minions, RP, etc. There's a plethora of things that anyone can do and choose to do if they want to. If you're good after playing the MSQ and do not want to do savages and ultimates or even do RWFs, then you can always unsub and put the game down and just resub when the new patch releases (6.1 is packed with new content and changes). The devs encourage it. I personally play FFXIV along with WoW (before) and Lost Ark right now. I just log in weekly to get my savage raid reclears and cap my tomestones for my alt jobs BiS. It's not some endless grind like what majority of MMORPG players got used to with the gear treadmill and FOMO systems other games implement. If you're looking for that dopamine injection you get from 'cool loot' and not satisfied with grinding the savages for BiS, then there are other games out there that cater to that type of addiction.

    It is totally viable to play the story, cancel the sub and come back when a new patch arrives.
    You dont have a fear of missing out, no needed hardcore grind to experience the endgame and it values your time perfectly.
    It can be played for 5 hours a day when you really want to complete it 100% or just a few hours a week to play your story and level a character.
    FFxiv as it is now is a great and modern MMORPG that can be played by busy working people with family or a student with to much time.
    Try it and take all the time you need.
    The free trail goes up to level 60 and you experience the somewhat boring but good world intruduction part for free and the first expansion, where the game really starts to shine.

    I can’t wait to see the Garnt documentary video on FF14

    Well...if you're streaming FFXIV, Garnt. You're solid. It will pay for itself in donations. People LOVE watching popular personalities play FFXIV. Otherwise...don't do it, ha ha.
    It's reaaaally good. I'm an 30 year old boomer and it's like all my favorite FF game crammed into one.

    the story is top tier, especially once you get into the expansions dont treat it like an mmo treat it like a very long ff game

    It blew up more now because of twitch and the fact that ppl can acknowledge it for more than just being an anime mmorpg. The game literally makes you feel like a hero and not just calls you one. The themes and lessons are so heartwarming and close to real life that even if you play alone it's as if you embarked on an epic quest of your own.

    The nice thing about FF14 is that the respect your time. As a full-time worker and a father, I can sign on for maybe 4 hours out of a whole week and have plenty of fun and not feel pressured to play more

    FFXIV was my first mmo that saved me during 2020. I highly recommend if you have the time to play it.
    -You just have to give yourself restrictions on playtime.

    13 Sentinels is awesome, check it out. Play all the story missions you can before doing any combat.

    Peak ffxiv addiction is changing the in game clock to Eorzea time and thinking it's the real time because the blinds are closed and you've been up for 2 days and you're delusional

    As long as you can still go about your daily life, go to work etc, FFXIV is honestly a great game for you to become invested in, it has a great story and you can meet so many amazing people on it. As long as you don't own a house (When they have auto-demo on, you have to log in and walk in to the house once every 45 days to keep it) you can quit for months on end and come back and pick up exactly where you left off. I've been playing it for almost 9 years and all honesty it is a nice escape from reality sometimes :>

    I dont know, you can play FF 14 and still be responsible adult and member of society.
    A responsible Adult can manage their time, while also having fun.
    If you afraid getting addicted, then there's something wrong with your ability to time management

    Yeah honestly, I get it. I’ve heard of stories from even back then about FF11 and how addicted people would get. Like how they’d be constantly thinking about the game and how they’d boot it up immediately after work every day. Definitely be careful and set limits.

    There was someone who picked up the Free Trial and progressed the story long enough to reach the Gold Saucer. They only started XIV because they wanted to play Mahjong, it's wild.
    Also Ocean Fishing is fun.

    Garnt should play and then make a video gushing about the game. :D i would love that. There's loads to talk about for ff14

    I've played almost every mainline final fantasy game, and all i can say is that ffxiv the best final fantasy game out of all the final fantasy games

      I spent decades thinking that FF6 was going to be the high bar for a FF storyline that would never get touched again. Shadowbringers got close, but Endwalker absolutely shattered it.
