This was actually some decent media coverage on this topic. A few things to point out. First, this is only for people with type 1 diabetes (those who produce no insulin due to the auto-immune destruction of beta cells). Second, companies (specifically Beta Bionics) are already walking back from using Glucagon due to shelf-life storage and some (a lot) of people experiencing nausea when it is administered. Plus it would necessitate a second pump site which is another hassle. Third, there is already a very close approximation to this available for DIY Loop users (who have the auto-bolus feature enabled). Finally, like ALL of these technologies, cost is a huge factor. There are people with type 1 diabetes now who can barely access the insulin they need to survive. Pumps and CGMs have a huge added cost that, even with insurance, is prohibitive for many T1 diabetics. I wish more was done to ensure everyone had access to the cool things already on the market.
I use the Omnipod 5 Dexcom transmitter and Dexcom Sensor, I think the new unit would be a better pump. It looks as though it also uses Dexcom transmitter
I just don't understand how this pump can speed up the action time of Humalog or Novolog? I have to prebolus 20 min before I eat. So if the iLet is using algorithms, how does it pre-bolus if it is waiting for an upward/downward post-prandial trend? I can see it working well with Fiasp. But I have an allergic reaction to Fiasp.
I used this and it changed my life! It's awesome! I've been T1D/LADA since 2021 and did MDI, never going back
