      @Stormy D. I had an '05 Park Avenue with a factory hood ornament (one of the last American cars to have one). They do add class but like so many of the nice styling features of the great landyachts they just don't work that well on the modern bubbles they make now. On some of the last traditional cars like the LeSabre, DTS, and Grand Marquis they would have looked nice and probably should have been installed. It was nice Lincoln chose to bring them back in 2003 on the Town Car after a 5 year absence and I believe they were the last American cars to have them in 2011.

      The Talisman option in 74, was four bucket seats and two consoles, one front and one in back. They had fancy writing tablets and pen sets in them. The "cheaper" Talisman option, was something like $1800 and it was upholstered in what Cadillac called Medici Cloth (which, even when new, looked like worn out velvet to me)... And the 'spensive Talisman option was upholstered in leather and cost something like $2,400... Either way, THAT was "eff you money" back then.... Especially for a 20 foot long car that only sat 4 people!
      In 75 and 76, Cadillac only offered the bucket seats in front...
      Anyhow, they didn't sell too many of these in any year they were offered.
      An old Caddy that was REALLY KOOL, was the 57-58 Eldorado Brougham... About the wildest thing on the road back then.
      They were 4 door cars, with reverse-opening (suicide) rear doors... Stainless steel roofs, boomerang-shaped seats, a cocktail cabinet built into the dashboard... Everything someone could ever need!

    Do you younger people really think your cars are better than these? Really? These cars had nice big roomy interiors. You could stretch out on a long trip. You could yawn with both arms outstretched and not touch the side windows with your elbows. You could float down the highway with no harshness because they had full frames with rubber insulators. There was no verticle movement at the corners so, there was no jerkiness that is present in ALL of the newer cars. The air conditioners were not temperature sensitive so, you could literally keep copious amounts of ice-cold air coming inside until your teeth chattered or until the compressor froze. You could seat 6 adults with room in the trunk for 6 full-size suitcases.
    Handling? People drove these cars differently. They slowed down for the corners and railroad crossings and intersection humps. Life isn't all about going around corners at 90 MPH. Who does that in reality? Who would do that with their family in the car?
    I have well over 10,000 car accidents recorded from right here on TH-cam. I have looked at EVERY single car accident involving older Buicks, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Lincolns, and Mercurys. In EVERY SINGLE CASE, there was no evidence, let alone proof, that the suspension was in any way a factor in the accident. NOT ONE! YET, I did notice that many of the newer cars with firm suspensions were involved in high-speed accidents because the firmer suspension encouraged high-speed driving that caused the crash. While it is true that there are fewer traffic deaths now because of airbags, crash crumple zones, and mandatory seat belt laws, high-speed accidents are on the rise.
    You now have a situation where you either live or die in an accident at these speeds.
    So, who benefits?
    It has been known for a long time that in Germany the accident rate is 1% lower than ours in the States BUT, their fatality rate is 1% HIGHER. So, who wins? The insurance companies. It is cheaper to bury someone than to keep them hospitalized for weeks or even months.
    You are only fooling yourself into thinking you have a better car now.

      I had a '78 Fleetwood Brougham. For driving COMFORT there was nothing better. It actually handled better than it had any right to as well. And it was RELIABLE, with the exception of the 70s Delco electronics that weren't made to last. It had its issues as it got older. It was easy to work on, parts were cheap, and it'd always, ALWAYS get you home if it had air in the tires and gas in the tank and the battery wasn't dead. I miss that car. @@viciouspoodle5543 It was called "planned obsolescence". Japan did it and so did the Germans. Car manufacturers wouldn't have survived if their cars lasted forever. It was common for Swedish cars to go 500,000 miles or more. Look at what happened to them. Sure, the newer cars don't rust as fast. The hard interior plastics last longer than the softer plastics. You pay twice as much though for them because of it. More people are out of work because of it too. Today's cars ride like school buses. The seats are hard as rocks. The tires are hard as concrete. So, you pay twice as much for a car that is uncomfortable just to be agonized by it a bit longer. If you are happy with that, so be it. I'm not.

    • @Nunofurdambiznez

      garages were built bigger back then.. these stupid little garages on today's houses weren't built for majestic cars like these.

      Cadillac was not the only big cats . Most cars where big then; Chrysler Products, Fords, Lincoln Mercury, big wagons. Oldsmobile, Buick.
      When cars cut down, consumers went to SUVs

      If you had the money in those days to afford those cars, you also had the money to own a house with a sizable garage.

    before gas got expensive

    • @inkyguy
      @inkyguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In fact, controlling for inflation, gas is cheaper today than it was in the 1970s. Remember OPEC and the Energy Crisis?
      Of course, if you have an electric or electric-hybrid the price of gas becomes irrelevant. Your car is already “filled up” when you leave home with it, and when you return it will be filled again for you, at a price that is about 65% per mile the cost of gasoline. And depending on your source of electricity, the electric fuel produces anywhere from somewhat less to zero pollution or carbon emissions. (And it has a rate of acceleration that will beat any internal combustion engine.)

    • @mitchsalawine5420
      @mitchsalawine5420 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not over a Cadillac, but yes over a Lincoln. Imperial build quality was indeed better than Ford. Liked the Imperial’s style too. Not a bad choice all things considered:)

    • @DavidPysnik
      @DavidPysnik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, quite long. When I was shopping for a house over a decade ago, I was able to narrow down the candidates quite a bit by requiring the house had a garage that could fit my Cadillacs in it.

      @mitchsalawine5420 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but they don’t handle like it. You can spin one almost effortlessly into a reasonable parking spot, even a 2023 parking space, something like a Chevrolet Suburban, maybe even easier:)
