I'm currently 1,100$ short on bills. I work and make decent money but we're about 1000$ short on bills if you include food(200$ every other week) into that budget. Waiting on tax season to get a relief. We have one kid and I didn't get my second stimulus check, so I'm getting a decent amount back. Hopefully it goes through next Friday. That's how we're living. We have food in our house and make sure we pay our mortgage and lot rent. For the past year we've been late on everything else...

I couldnt even get hired at a grocery store and Ive spent years working as a regional manager for a fortune 500 company. I got my real estate license because i couldnt find any other work. Real estate fees and member dues mean im barely making ends meet but make just slightly too much to qualify for snap benefits. Im caring for my kids and elderly mother on one income. Praying anyone suffering finds relief
What zunai is saying is true the state will pay u for being her personal care aide that would give you some extra income look into the requirements for your state. She might have to be kn the state insurance (medicaid) for you to get paid but look into it .
I am too! I hope they're able to pay her what she deserves and (unrelated) I LOVE what she did with her hair! I tried that a couple of years ago. I miss it. She may have inspired more than hope today. I may just shave my head again. :)

An attorney is able to turn up business for themselves with nothing but a car, a phone, a pen, paper, and some Hustle. That's how I started my Law Firm 7 years ago. Lawyers are uniquely able to going to business for themselves in a way that few people are. For those dependent on employers for access to income, it is much harder. For those without a degree where you can just start a business without any investment Capital, it is harder

Smh. That's terrible. I started volunteering at a food locker in a rich neighborhood. I drive far to get there, but i can get as many groceries as I want. It's a blessing. What's crazy is that i sign up over 500 people a day and im the only black person around. I get extra and give it away to people that can't get there. Smh,
the state where your mom works makes that decision, not her former employer. It depends on the reason your mom no longer works there and if it is a qualifying reason to receive unemployment. Best wishes to your mom!!!

My parents have no jobs for like the whole pandemic and they didn’t get money. We barley surviving but eh. Stay positive. Good thing they saved some money during the years. Cause we litterally no income. My parents are restaurant workers btw.

Yes it’s so unfortunate. Unless someone is lucky enough to work from home, you either have to worry about getting severely sick and possibly dying or going broke. It sucks either way.

We should be allowed to work and sustain ourselves, because covid-19 has a low chance of killing you unless you have a compromised immune system. @Michael Desmond you fail to recognize the class of people that are not low income but not middle class either, pay check to paycheck still and can't have a savings , because they are paycheck to paycheck. Those are the type of people that are struggling the most right now. We are not freeloaders either btw. I just got My Master's degree from USC when the Pandemic hit in 2020. So far it has been 9 months of looking for a job and I am still unemployed. It has been absolutely devastating. Thank God my wife has a good paying secure job and has been supporting me. Also, I had 50 k saved up from my previous jobs and that has helped me treamendously.
Unfortunately, degree is not the golden ticket to success anymore. Starting your own business is the wisest use of your degree in my opinion. You will not get paid your worth unless you are your own boss.
I’m a college student and I applied to 3 jobs no one would hire me despite the qualifications. I’m living with my godparents now I’m heading to technical school to start my own business running out of my house.

Exactly! I make way less than he does yet I still managed to save and have no debts. This guy either has medical debts (like you stated) or his consumer debts (living beyond his means. As Dave Ramsey say, "It's not how much you make, its how much you spend." If he makes $100K but spends $101K, than he'll always be in debts.
I wish they'd give more detail about his financial situation. Sometimes, I wonder if the news purposely interviews families with kids and former high earners so that we can voice our outrage at the article, thus boosting the view count.

Medical debts will take you out a friend has a stroke recently and had to be in hospital for like a month and all the physical and occupational therapy her bill was 410,000....yes with employer health insurance. How can a person pay that and the normal bills of life even if u make 100,000 (which is less after heavy taxes,social security, retirement, health insurance etc)
@@tiamarie1226 omg i hear stories like this and my heart breaks, I live in Canada, our health care is not perfect, at times there is a long wait, however there is no financial burden like that....we may pay more in taxes but like when my mom got breast cancer had chemo radiation and surgery all her focus was on recovering not the cost.....because there was no cost. I just got terminated on Tuesday....It's a hard blow. I'm living with family and thank goodness for that. I have to scramble to make rent but at least they are understanding. I can relate to her a lot.

06:45 bless this woman, when I was broke not being able to afford food and nearly homeless, I got a job at a starbucks for the sole reason that they had food and free coffee. Instead of throwing out dozens of sandwiches at the end of the day, a lovely manager used to sneak them in my bag instead of throwing them out. She helped me so much and now I pay it forward and buy homeless people food when I can. Nobody should go hungry.
Really liked the lawyer lady. We should all use stories like this to stay inspired to keep fighting! Make a plan, have back up, & have a back up for your back up...Apply for everything you can jobs benefits etc. Ask for help. And when you do get up again give back !
I guess I have to be happy to have grown up poor and I'm still poor but never suffering or worried how I'm gonna get by because growing up poor will teach you survival skills.
Hang in there. Idk about you, but I feel like everyone I know has raked in thousands of dollars during this pandemic due to the stimulus money. I got the bare minimum, which I am grateful for but everyone else I know is making out like bandits. One of my friends even said that the amount of money she got was "stupid" because it was so much. I wish the amount she got and considered "stupid" could have gone to this sweet lady.
I was impressed that St. James pantry came through with 6 months rent for her!!! Wow, that's excellent! I felt sorry for her when she said she got an eviction notice and that the power was going to be shut off, honestly, the US government sucks for allowing people to be terrorized this way during a pandemic, they could easily issue an order to prevent this type of thing from happening. I mean honestly.

The idea that high earners shouldn’t get help in this time of struggle is so infuriating to me. I’m from the poorest part of the country. I take care of my entire family because again, we’re from the ghetto. One year post college, making 80k a year, paid high student loan payments the entire year. There’s hardly nothing to save after years of playing catch up. Now all this is happening and I’m told I’m a high earner. Despite the high taxes I paid the single year of making 80k. It’s frustrating. Send the checks out to everyone. People who don’t need it should pay it forward. ... (I thank god I didn’t buy a new car with high car payments like everyone suggested I should after graduating college) it’s strange how capitalism is praised when everyone can make payments , encouraged to spend more than you have with loans and credit, but when things fall short it’s our owe individual fault. I hate it here.
You're exactly right ... Income doesn't go nearly as far in expensive areas of the country. What is considered "more than enough" in one part of the country is "barely getting by" in another.
I don’t know the details of your family situation, but this idea that you need to “take care” of your “entire family” is likely a personal choice. Just because you “made it” doesn’t mean everyone else gets to kick up there feet and ride you like a donkey. If you have adult family you choose to enable then that’s a problem you need to solve by making them contribute to their own upkeep. I help some family, but only to a certain extent, because it’s not my responsibility to bear the financial burden for decisions others chose to make for themselves. If you don’t take care of yourself then who’s going to take care of you? It’s not your job to take care of everyone else, but if you chose to then don’t complain about being excluded from another round of stimulus checks. There’s only so much you can do so take care of yourself first and foremost and set boundaries for who and how much you can help. If you keep saying yes then people are going to keep asking for more and more.
@Kate GIbs my husband and i did make the decision to hop the state line for lower taxes ... I'm speaking to people stuck in areas like in CA that can't afford rent in any area and can't get ahead enough to move. I've seen several documentaries lately showing families desperately trying to leave those high priced areas. Moving is very expensive, plus, you have to have some where to go.

I learn during a down time that I needed to prepare for the down times. When things were good, I spent money on building and keeping a pantry of food for 6mo to a year, and personal/home goods for a year. Eventually I learned to spend very little on food buy using sales, coupons, multiple rebates on the same item. I found sale items with coupons that allowed me to donate hundreds of items some weeks. I spent money to reduce utility costs (cfl then led lights, insulating window covers). No more car payments. Clothes were gifted, thrifted or on sale. The house was refinanced to give us a low mortgage payment. When down times hit, as they always do, there was less stress, food was available allowing good nutrition to face the lean times. I treated the process like a game of us against them, it made it fun. Each challenge quickly or slowly eventually became a victory party/dance. The guy in this segment who said he worked on wall street and had been making six figures for the past 15 years but now he has to go to a food bank because he lost his job during the pandemic, that's just crazy to me! Most places didn't start laying people off until around late Feb to early March of 2020. So even if he was one of the early ones to lose his job, that means he has been unemployed for a year at most. How much was he saving during those 15 years of making six figures? My parents grew up very poor, and although they gave us kids more than they had, we certainly were considered poor as well. I've been fortunate as an adult, but as a result of growing up without much I've always lived below my means. Not "at" or "within", but below. That way if/when I lost my job I could still make ends meet for a while at least. I do know people for whom growing up poor had the opposite effect. As soon as they started making decent money, they spent it on all the things they never had. But what good is having a big house and luxury car if you're always just a couple of paychecks away from losing it all?
I was thinking about it later. Six figures could be $100,000. You read a lot how it takes 4-5 adults in a family making minimum wage $15hr to survive. So one guy making $100,000, in NYC supporting a wife and 2+ kids could be just middle class. But for the grace of God, there go I.....

I mean I'm single and it's easier but even if you have kids, even if you save a tiny bit; it adds up. I will never throw away food, I will always buy clothes on sale etc. My brother used to call me "cheap" before. And I always told him; I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. So he lost his job during covid and didn't have savings. I was like ' this is exactly why I save'. He says well this doesn't happen often. True, it doesn't. But we also don't know what will happen.

I feel like even before the pandemic came a whole lot of people were spending money big time trying to live the big life to impress others and even some so called friends, rather than just basically trying to live within their means, and saving some money for a rainy day so to speak.
I'm not excusing it, but in their defense, living big is what society as a whole teaches. Everything around us tells us to keep spending to be happy. Buy that new car, the bigger house, the latest $1k+ cell phone, etc., over what you actually need and can afford to be able to put money into savings. Even with a shrinking middle class that's been almost nonexistent since the great recession, people have been living on the edge instead of pulling back because everything around them keeps them in that holding pattern and it only takes a little push to send them into the red like the regular cost of living increases or a big push to really send things out of control like the pandemic.

Exactly. That's not everyone but it's true. I've always been good at saving. I still wear my old ass clothes until they tear up on their own. I barely buy shoes until they start to fall apart. People spend friviously without even thinking about it. One person that I knew lost their job because of this and Trudeau gave out $2000 to these people who were unfortunate to lose the job. They were told that this money will be taxed come tax time. This person went out and immediately got two new couches that she didn't need. She even said she didn't need them that it was just an impulse buy. She said she didn't know that this money was going to be taxed. Well she found out at the wrong time and got pissed off. It's just not really being good with money to begin with, with some of these people.
Gone are the days when employers respected their employees, Now, we're all just a body to earn the millions for the few. A major retailer I work for (won't be shortly) I find disgusting on how they treat their employees, and push certain lifestyles upon them. Won't be shopping there soon. Its just disheartening what the US is turning in to.
I volunteer at a food locker now. It's in a very wealthy area and I drive far to get there, like another city. I sign up over 500 people a day. It's crazy, i mean the line of cars never stop from 9 to 12. I get to grocery shop in the warehouse when I volunteer. I rarely buy food now. I get extra to give it away to others that can't get there and cook for the homeless. What's really baffling, is that Im the only person of color around. I even get the elderly to make out a grocery list. They get the best food there. Sprouts, Raleys, Natural Food s, Safeway, Target etc,.. Volunteer people, it's worth it.

I thank God my household hasn’t been affected by the pandemic. I’m a six-figure earner. My husband still works. We donate. We home school our boys. I feel so sorry to see this happening to so many. We were also paying my rent + a mortgage because I have an apartment when I’m out of town working. Keep your heads up everyone! 🙏
My family is by no means well-off, I'd say we're actually low-income, but we've managed to stay afloat during this past year. I can't imagine the stress on those who've lost nearly everything. Bless these organizations that help people with rent/food. They're a literal lifeline.

I think we need to confront the cruel state of living that is renting. I am 25 and am nowhere near being able to put a deposit down for a house. I probably won't be until I am at least 30 and that is optimistic. We are told to focus on education, which puts us in so much debt, in order to work. Meanwhile, wealthy landlords are collecting our limited incomes in order to pay their own mortgages. Landlords which do not required education to do their jobs, they just need money. Is it a coincidence that all the poor people are renting and all the rich people have multiple homes and collect rent from the poor? Having a home should not be a goal that requires multiple generations to achieve.
I'm 25, single no kids and renting a studio apartment and currently doing my masters. I try to pay my rent 2 to 3 months in advance so I can save as much as my income during the months I dont have to pay. I am trying to save as much as I can as fast as I can so I can buy my own place. The sooner you buy the sooner you can pay it off. The time to do it is now while you are young and have energy.
@@jesuslover5968 No I am not in a relationship and no kids. I work in a finance company part time and studying international business and investment banking for my masters. I was lucky enough to have my parents pay half of my masters deposit. I am aware of the reality of life nowadays and know how lucky I am to be able to live alone and do my masters at the same time. My situation isn't the norm for most people my age.
I see so many complain about such, but what about the ones who struggled to afford college even? I was one of those nobody, helped me afford it. I only ended up with an Associate's degree thanks to such. Which isn't worth the paper its printed on. I've been passed over for many jobs due to it being an Associate's not a Bachelor's degree over the years. Jobs that they wanted to hire me for but refused when they found out I only have an associate's degree. Many will most likely never be able to afford a house in the USA. I can't even afford to rent a studio apartment anywhere in my state. Many live out of a car, or van, or are homeless.

I was trained as a lawyer too with a Masters Degree but I work in a supermarket so I’ve had a job (so far) I don’t consider it a “step down” I will do any work to keep my family afloat

Because life expenses and expenses for work go hand to hand ... how are we to save when most in the world make under $5 an hour? Tell me how those people going to do it???? when you have to depend on agencies and you are use to working and earning a leaving, it's a humbling experience and it opens your eyes on what people go through just to have basic needs.

I think it's less about "the jobs you want," and more about is a job in retail, or a grocery store worth the risk to my health? Or in her case, will I be able to pay any bills, and not lose the benefits that I need? We don't know her exact situation; all we know is that she's one breath away from catastrophe like so many other people.
I feel her I’ve been out of work since March too and schools are closed and you have to be the teacher through by day and stress as the head of household by night is so stressful and you try not to seem stressed cause you don’t want the kids to know it’s something wrong I go to pantry’s to and pick up fresh veggies from my kids school it’s definitely hard times I’m ready for it to be over to get back to work I just hope while we wait people don’t loose it all
I myself lost my job here in Europe. I’m in government aide till September taking classes to hopefully land me a job soon . I pray for all of us suffering for job losses due to COVID and may Gods bring us justice one day for this plandemic that crushes out the middle class to poverty and poor really at the bottom. I myself was thinking to end my life but it’s not an option. We need to do the best we could to get out of this . God help us !!!
This has definitely been humble pie for those with 'careers' who look down on service workers like fast food staff, cashiers, street cleaners etc. The arrogant people who like to tell others to 'get a real job' are now wishing they had those jobs. Agreed. I am extremely thankful to have a relatively well paying job that enables me to keep myself and my family reasonably comfortable through all of this. I used to live paycheck to paycheck so I NEVER take it for granted, and I do try to pitch in and help out those who are struggling when I can, because I know what living paycheck to paycheck and barely able to purchase the basic amenities for survival is like.......

I'm currently 1,100$ short on bills. I work and make decent money but we're about 1000$ short on bills if you include food(200$ every other week) into that budget. Waiting on tax season to get a relief. We have one kid and I didn't get my second stimulus check, so I'm getting a decent amount back. Hopefully it goes through next Friday.
That's how we're living.
We have food in our house and make sure we pay our mortgage and lot rent.

I couldnt even get hired at a grocery store and Ive spent years working as a regional manager for a fortune 500 company. I got my real estate license because i couldnt find any other work. Real estate fees and member dues mean im barely making ends meet but make just slightly too much to qualify for snap benefits. Im caring for my kids and elderly mother on one income. Praying anyone suffering finds relief

I just got My Master's degree from USC when the Pandemic hit in 2020. So far it has been 9 months of looking for a job and I am still unemployed. It has been absolutely devastating. Thank God my wife has a good paying secure job and has been supporting me. Also, I had 50 k saved up from my previous jobs and that has helped me treamendously.
You will have to go into fields where there is a demand like teaching or the medical field.
Unfortunately, degree is not the golden ticket to success anymore. Starting your own business is the wisest use of your degree in my opinion. You will not get paid your worth unless you are your own boss.

Medical debts will take you out a friend has a stroke recently and had to be in hospital for like a month and all the physical and occupational therapy her bill was 410,000....yes with employer health insurance. How can a person pay that and the normal bills of life even if u make 100,000 (which is less after heavy taxes,social security, retirement, health insurance etc)

06:45 bless this woman, when I was broke not being able to afford food and nearly homeless, I got a job at a starbucks for the sole reason that they had food and free coffee. Instead of throwing out dozens of sandwiches at the end of the day, a lovely manager used to sneak them in my bag instead of throwing them out. She helped me so much and now I pay it forward and buy homeless people food when I can. Nobody should go hungry.

Hang in there. Idk about you, but I feel like everyone I know has raked in thousands of dollars during this pandemic due to the stimulus money. I got the bare minimum, which I am grateful for but everyone else I know is making out like bandits. One of my friends even said that the amount of money she got was "stupid" because it was so much. I felt sorry for her when she said she got an eviction notice and that the power was going to be shut off, honestly, the US government sucks for allowing people to be terrorized this way during a pandemic, they could easily issue an order to prevent this type of thing from happening. The idea that high earners shouldn’t get help in this time of struggle is so infuriating to me. I’m from the poorest part of the country. I take care of my entire family because again, we’re from the ghetto. One year post college, making 80k a year, paid high student loan payments the entire year. There’s hardly nothing to save after years of playing catch up. Now all this is happening and I’m told I’m a high earner. Despite the high taxes I paid the single year of making 80k. It’s frustrating. Send the checks out to everyone. People who don’t need it should pay it forward. ... (I thank god I didn’t buy a new car with high car payments like everyone suggested I should after graduating college) it’s strange how capitalism is praised when everyone can make payments , encouraged to spend more than you have with loans and credit, but when things fall short it’s our owe individual fault. You're exactly right ... Income doesn't go nearly as far in expensive areas of the country. What is considered "more than enough" in one part of the country is "barely getting by" in another.
I don’t know the details of your family situation, but this idea that you need to “take care” of your “entire family” is likely a personal choice. Just because you “made it” doesn’t mean everyone else gets to kick up there feet and ride you like a donkey. If you have adult family you choose to enable then that’s a problem you need to solve by making them contribute to their own upkeep. I help some family, but only to a certain extent, because it’s not my responsibility to bear the financial burden for decisions others chose to make for themselves.
If you don’t take care of yourself then who’s going to take care of you?
It’s not your job to take care of everyone else, but if you chose to then don’t complain about being excluded from another round of stimulus checks. There’s only so much you can do so take care of yourself first and foremost and set boundaries for who and how much you can help. If you keep saying yes then people are going to keep asking for more and more.
@Kate GIbs my husband and i did make the decision to hop the state line for lower taxes ... I'm speaking to people stuck in areas like in CA that can't afford rent in any area and can't get ahead enough to move. I've seen several documentaries lately showing families desperately trying to leave those high priced areas. Moving is very expensive, plus, you have to have some where to go.
I pray that everyone finds relief soon. This pandemic has been so devastating to so many.

anyone who is reading this. please don't spend all the money you make. always always think about what may happen tomorrow. I see a lot of people around me spending like its their last day on earth all the time. please save up for times like this.
I learn during a down time that I needed to prepare for the down times. When things were good, I spent money on building and keeping a pantry of food for 6mo to a year, and personal/home goods for a year. Eventually I learned to spend very little on food buy using sales, coupons, multiple rebates on the same item. I found sale items with coupons that allowed me to donate hundreds of items some weeks. I spent money to reduce utility costs (cfl then led lights, insulating window covers). No more car payments. Clothes were gifted, thrifted or on sale. The house was refinanced to give us a low mortgage payment. When down times hit, as they always do, there was less stress, food was available allowing good nutrition to face the lean times. I treated the process like a game of us against them, it made it fun. Each challenge quickly or slowly eventually became a victory party/dance. LisaBissett

The guy in this segment who said he worked on wall street and had been making six figures for the past 15 years but now he has to go to a food bank because he lost his job during the pandemic, that's just crazy to me! Most places didn't start laying people off until around late Feb to early March of 2020. So even if he was one of the early ones to lose his job, that means he has been unemployed for a year at most. How much was he saving during those 15 years of making six figures? My parents grew up very poor, and although they gave us kids more than they had, we certainly were considered poor as well. I've been fortunate as an adult, but as a result of growing up without much I've always lived below my means. Not "at" or "within", but below. That way if/when I lost my job I could still make ends meet for a while at least. I do know people for whom growing up poor had the opposite effect. As soon as they started making decent money, they spent it on all the things they never had. But what good is having a big house and luxury car if you're always just a couple of paychecks away from losing it all?

I mean I'm single and it's easier but even if you have kids, even if you save a tiny bit; it adds up. I will never throw away food, I will always buy clothes on sale etc. My brother used to call me "cheap" before. And I always told him; I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. I feel like even before the pandemic came a whole lot of people were spending money big time trying to live the big life to impress others and even some so called friends, rather than just basically trying to live within their means, and saving some money for a rainy day so to speak.
I'm not excusing it, but in their defense, living big is what society as a whole teaches. Everything around us tells us to keep spending to be happy. Buy that new car, the bigger house, the latest $1k+ cell phone, etc., over what you actually need and can afford to be able to put money into savings. Even with a shrinking middle class that's been almost nonexistent since the great recession, people have been living on the edge instead of pulling back because everything around them keeps them in that holding pattern and it only takes a little push to send them into the red like the regular cost of living increases or a big push to really send things out of control like the pandemic.
That's what today's American dream is all about. Having material things your neighbor doesn't. We're just consumers in their eyes.

Exactly. That's not everyone but it's true. I've always been good at saving. I still wear my old ass clothes until they tear up on their own. I barely buy shoes until they start to fall apart. People spend friviously without even thinking about it. One person that I knew lost their job because of this and Trudeau gave out $2000 to these people who were unfortunate to lose the job. They were told that this money will be taxed come tax time. This person went out and immediately got two new couches that she didn't need. She even said she didn't need them that it was just an impulse buy. She said she didn't know that this money was going to be taxed. Well she found out at the wrong time and got pissed off. It's just not really being good with money to begin with, with some of these people.

Gone are the days when employers respected their employees, Now, we're all just a body to earn the millions for the few. A major retailer I work for (won't be shortly) I find disgusting on how they treat their employees, and push certain lifestyles upon them. Won't be shopping there soon. Its just disheartening what the US is turning in to.
I volunteer at a food locker now. It's in a very wealthy area and I drive far to get there, like another city. I sign up over 500 people a day. It's crazy, i mean the line of cars never stop from 9 to 12. I get to grocery shop in the warehouse when I volunteer. I rarely buy food now. I get extra to give it away to others that can't get there and cook for the homeless. What's really baffling, is that Im the only person of color around. I even get the elderly to make out a grocery list. They get the best food there. Sprouts, Raleys, Natural Food s, Safeway, Target etc,.. Volunteer people, it's worth it.
Third round of payments? My husband only got one and it literally just came. 🤦🏽♀️

I thank God my household hasn’t been affected by the pandemic. I’m a six-figure earner. My husband still works. We donate. We home school our boys. I feel so sorry to see this happening to so many. We were also paying my rent + a mortgage because I have an apartment when I’m out of town working. Keep your heads up everyone! 🙏

My family is by no means well-off, I'd say we're actually low-income, but we've managed to stay afloat during this past year. I can't imagine the stress on those who've lost nearly everything. Bless these organizations that help people with rent/food. They're a literal lifeline.

I think we need to confront the cruel state of living that is renting. I am 25 and am nowhere near being able to put a deposit down for a house. I probably won't be until I am at least 30 and that is optimistic. We are told to focus on education, which puts us in so much debt, in order to work. Meanwhile, wealthy landlords are collecting our limited incomes in order to pay their own mortgages. Landlords which do not required education to do their jobs, they just need money. Is it a coincidence that all the poor people are renting and all the rich people have multiple homes and collect rent from the poor? Having a home should not be a goal that requires multiple generations to achieve.
I'm 25, single no kids and renting a studio apartment and currently doing my masters. I try to pay my rent 2 to 3 months in advance so I can save as much as my income during the months I dont have to pay. I am trying to save as much as I can as fast as I can so I can buy my own place. The sooner you buy the sooner you can pay it off. The time to do it is now while you are young and have energy.

@@jesuslover5968 No I am not in a relationship and no kids. I work in a finance company part time and studying international business and investment banking for my masters. I was lucky enough to have my parents pay half of my masters deposit. I am aware of the reality of life nowadays and know how lucky I am to be able to live alone and do my masters at the same time. My situation isn't the norm for most people my age.
I see so many complain about such, but what about the ones who struggled to afford college even? I was one of those nobody, helped me afford it. I only ended up with an Associate's degree thanks to such. Which isn't worth the paper its printed on. I've been passed over for many jobs due to it being an Associate's not a Bachelor's degree over the years. Jobs that they wanted to hire me for but refused when they found out I only have an associate's degree.
Many will most likely never be able to afford a house in the USA. I can't even afford to rent a studio apartment anywhere in my state. Many live out of a car, or van, or are homeless.

I was trained as a lawyer too with a Masters Degree but I work in a supermarket so I’ve had a job (so far) I don’t consider it a “step down” I will do any work to keep my family afloat

'Savings' must be the first major expenditure each pay check. I see majority of people all around the world hardly saving a single penny!
Because life expenses and expenses for work go hand to hand ... how are we to save when most in the world make under $5 an hour? Tell me how those people going to do it???? Panick buying is one of the reasons of the rise in prices. That is why it is not good to panick buy. Imagine more people lost jobs during pandemic and yet have to pay for more for food items.

I think it's less about "the jobs you want," and more about is a job in retail, or a grocery store worth the risk to my health? Or in her case, will I be able to pay any bills, and not lose the benefits that I need? We don't know her exact situation; all we know is that she's one breath away from catastrophe like so many other people.

i grew up middle class & unfortanately now i am the working poor.
I feel her I’ve been out of work since March too and schools are closed and you have to be the teacher through by day and stress as the head of household by night is so stressful and you try not to seem stressed cause you don’t want the kids to know it’s something wrong I go to pantry’s to and pick up fresh veggies from my kids school it’s definitely hard times I’m ready for it to be over to get back to work I just hope while we wait people don’t loose it all

I myself lost my job here in Europe. I’m in government aide till September taking classes to hopefully land me a job soon . Agreed. I am extremely thankful to have a relatively well paying job that enables me to keep myself and my family reasonably comfortable through all of this. I used to live paycheck to paycheck so I NEVER take it for granted, and I do try to pitch in and help out those who are struggling when I can, because I know what living paycheck to paycheck and barely able to purchase the basic amenities for survival is like.......
