@@Holgi1904No, that is not correct. The song is on the album MUTTER, released in 2001. Fritz was only born in 2008. On Rammwiki and Wikipedia it is stated that Khira Li Lindemann, the daughter of Richard and Till's ex-wife, sang the chorus when she was 9-10 years old. After divorcing Till, her mother kept his last name and Richard and they were never married. This is how Khira Li got Marieke's last name.
No, Fritz wasn't even born then. Kira Li also commented on this. As a child, she was angry that Dad and Uncle Till edited the song like that. She had tried so hard.😂
Fun Fact: The vocals are from Khira Li Lindemann. She has the same last name as singer Till Lindemann, but is the daughter of guitarist Richard Kruspe. That came because Richard Kruspe had a relationship with Till Lindemann's ex-wife who kept his last name "Lindemann", but everyone involved gets along well with it.

The song is about child abuse in the family environment.
The child is buried alive in a metaphorical sense, in an inner immigration, because there seems to be no way out, because no one in the environment notices anything, does not take him seriously, understands his signs, or they don't care.
Originally, Till wanted the situation to end without redemption. However, the band members intervened and so the environment becomes aware of the child's situation, recognises the signs and can save him from the situation.
Hoppe, hoppe Reiter (hop, hop rider) is a so-called kneeling verse that is recited in pairs during the game. It is usually played by an adult with a child, with the child sitting on the lap.
In some feature films, this situation was used to illustrate the prelude to sexual abuse by the dear uncle.

Till does write poetry and even released some tomes and when it comes to poetry, this stuff usually has few meanings if done well.

@@fohlenmann195 It is literally a old German poem about a child not getting baptized and hence cannot go to heaven. The story ends with the priest and community digging her up and getting a proper Christian burial. Many of their old songs are from old fairytales. If I remember correctly it is a old Grimm fairytale, in the same book Seven Ravens were from.
This is actually my favorite song by Rammstein. I'm very emotionally attached to it because my grandmother used to sing "Hoppe, Hoppe, reiter" to me when I was little. She sadly passed away a couple years ago but this song is like I still have a little piece of her that will always live. And also the lyrics and instrumentals are amazing but that's obvious

"Hoppe hoppe, Reiter" (hop hop rider) is a reference to a nursery rhyme that is cited during a game, where a kid rides on the knee of an adult, usually a (grand-)parent.
It is very common in Germany.

i love this song, especially when it all comes together in the chorus with the music box playing. it is one of those hidden gems that many have as a low key favourite
In the Middle Ages, medicine was not yet ready to determine death beyond doubt (infant mortality was very high), so they put a music box with the dead to make themselves known in case they were still alive.

The song is about child abuse. Here, of course, no one is dead in the literal sense. The child is mentally dead and you try to bring it back to life, to repair something psychologically.
Hoppe Hoppe Reiter is a nursery rhyme. The child is placed on the lap and seesawed by the parents while they sing.

Hope I got the order right, I left my Mutter album in another house once I moved. I could listen to the whole cd in a row.. the second half is more chilled and dancy which is totally OK and nice.
First half turned out to be persistent in every live show, the big hits.

Tiny little correction for the translation. the last "and from the earth the child sings" should correctly be "and ON the earth the child sings". minor detail but i always found it very meaningful for the context. it's not easy to hear and i don't blame Educated Marine for missing it

The translation isn't a 100% accurate, as the little child was'nt "buried dead", but "buried hastily" that means, it seemed to be dead by quick investigation and there wasn't any retention time after the incident. So the song could also dig into that buried-alive theme, reported in history. Another message is: Humans need to help themselves rather than wait for divine helpers or else...or more easier, don't hope, just do...

The song is about a woman giving birth to a dead newborn. The medical staff lie to her by saying everything is ok, we take care of it. They do this because the woman is exhausted, and a shock could kill her. This is a reference to the album cover of Mutter.
