Might let first time mechanics know that one way to test your waterpump is to check the temperature of the intake radiator hose after car reaches operating temp. If it's warm, the pump is more than likely moving sufficiently to rotate water. Great video. I'm totally redoing the whole coolant system in a 2007 Nitro. It's somewhat comforting to know that others have struggled diagnosing this coolant system. My garage will smell like antifreeze forever now. Again, nice video. Loved the way you broke it down.
make sure you dont have any air trapped ,release bleeder screw run vehicle withrad cap off put funnel in bleeder fill with water or antifreeze and let system burp...this can take awhile...once no more bubbles repace rad cap and bleeder you should be good ...have you flushed the system?
In some cases there can be an air pocket in the cooling system. You will have to burp ( technically an air purge to flush out the air pocket. Sometimes that can be the issue, and it can cause you to spend unnecessary money then you need to. So that should be the first rule after changing a water pump or a thermostat Purge the air out the cooling system
that was a lot of good info man I appreciate it...and alot of cool little tricks I didn't know and i do now...thank you for sharing your knowledge alot of ppl dont share it and then they die and that info is never shared and that's less ppl know so thank you very much man
Thanks! Just replaced the heater core (leaking don't attempt) . everything is getting hot then cools down after about 3/4 of the temp gauge . It put up a code and said bad relay and check the fan motor. So frustrating chasing that gremlin around and around. Thanks for the tips
I think this is an air in the coolant line issue, I had similar overheating issue when I went to change my coolant. I looked at a couple videos mention their is spot to bleed the air out of the coolant lines close to the engine. And it work, if you don’t get the air out of the coolant lines the engine will not fill up and the coolant sensor will not work properly.
That thermostat has to be clocked. It has a gold rivet on it that has to be facing to the top to allow air to burp out of the system. Not sure if you knew that or not.
My 07 over heats when I’m sitting at the drive through for to long. I than have to park it wait till it cools down sometimes it’ll turn over but won’t turn on but once it’s on and I’m driving the coolant goes down to normal. Smh been a few months
I have 2010 nitro. Just change my thermostat and I'm still over heating. If I turn the heater on the temperature goes down. I thought my new thermostat was bad cause it looked just like the old 1 so I decided to put the old 1 in some boiling water and it freaking worked fine so I'm not sure. When I refilled my antifreeze it was circulation so its not the water pump. What could it be? I also made sure I burped it when I added fluid...
@@TheMrfabreez ya my fan is coming on tho.. i literally just sat out there with it on running at idle for 35min and nothing no overheating but I turned the ac on and it started to rise turn the heat on and it goes back down. I drove it aroundbthe block and it rose to almost 3/4s without the heater on... im so lost cause everything points to the thermostat but its not cause i replaced it not to mention like I said the old 1 was good after I boiled it and it opened up🤦🏽♂️my thing is why is that bottom hose cold for. It says once the thermostat gets hot enough it will open up and the hose will heat up but if it stays cold u will overheat and thats what going on....
Dealing with a hot car, always pull the thermostat first…!!! Unless you know the pump is leaking. But even then always change it when dealing with any repairs to the coolant system. My dad runs his with no thermostat during the summer. Engine runs cooler..
Man i did everything you did and i asked my unc what if we just bypass the thermostat for right now before i spend all that money he said that wasnt the problem but obviously he was wrong
Man.. some bad luck! That's my kind of luck! 😆 When you say it was running hot, what do you mean? Right now my cooling fan is not turning on. I changed the sensor and radiator fan..nothing. The issue I have is that the car will only overheat if I am I idle for too long.. like in traffic or something. But if I start driving ..the temperature comes back down and stays normal. Once I'm driving I'm good. Only if I stop and idle for too long it overheats. Is that the same thing you were experiencing?
@@TheMrfabreez Did you end up changing the thermostat? If you did.. was it a good? You ever heard of the cooking fan relay? Not the one in the fuse box. There is suppose to be one behind the front grill next to the right head light. I read some stuff about that being the issue
I ma not mechanic either, but I have experience to fix my car HHR 2006, almost always when the the temperature is hight is because the thermostat is not good, thermostat open/close to keep engine low temperature, if keep close that means the water/cooland don't go to the enginee and will be high temperature very bad for the enginee.
I Have An 08 Dodge Nitro , It Was Overheating Bad . My Lot Dropped A New Engine Because The Head Gasket Was Bad , A Few Days Later It Over Heated Some More But Not As Bad , They Gave Me A New Thermostat , Here I Am The Next Day & It’s Overheating Again ... Usually When I Turn My Air Or Heat On 😒

Having the same problem. Just changed my thermostat, still running hot. I have an 07 Nitro 4.0. Thanks so much for the video.
Try to bleed your radiator, it's the Allen head plug, should be on the hose next to the battery connected to the radiator while adding antifreeze

Thanks for the video. I have spent so much money on overheating cars it ain't even funny.

thank you nice way of explaining the issues.

Was planning on taking thermostat off does it still need the rubber gasket from thermostat so it dont leak

Theirs a thermostat on the engine between the alternator and compressor . It’s tells the fan to come on .. I can’t remember the name
Richie Woo Woo King da,m bro I’m so made I can’t remember

Coolent temperature sensor
5:13 in the vid ... mine
That is why I always buy a fail open thermostat. So if it breaks it opens up and lets the coolant keep flowing.
Good video man appreciate you

Thank you so much I’m googling if my autozone has the thermo stat
Thanks cuzzo i got 1 & i love it thi$ help$ when it$ time to work on it...

It’s a third one that I can’t remember coolent sensor I think

I’m looking at a dodge nitro 2007 do you think it’s that issue the radiator and the thermostat or what’s most common tryna get this car 😂😂
It’s a good buy easy to fix and durable
I'm at 10 min here and before I go any further I'm gonna guess it was the heater core.
Coolent sensor
awesome video
Thanks!
Thanks brother
