    Subscribed, you make really great content Desy - thank you! I had to sift through about 5 reviews before finding yours. Not only is your content well produced, but I appreciate your realistic and honest opinions about these bags. So many "reviewers" present every single feature of a piece of gear like it is flawless, sounding more like an unscrupulous car salesman than somebody talking about the pros vs. cons of a piece of gear. It's great to hear about what is good, but even better to hear about what isn't good about something when making purchasing decisions. Thanks!!

    Dam I thought I was a backpack geek I have a backpack for every situation different sizes and they are all north face one bag is ten years old and in great condition the secret to keeping a bag in good shape is to never over stuff it so much that u can hardly zip it that puts stress on the straps weakens the stitching and if it’s dirty clean it

    Hi Desy!! Thank You for doing these reviews! I was laughing when you showed your closet filled with backpacks! But, it is SO helpful to have enthusiastic people like you in the backpack community talk about what they like and show us backpacks. I am trying to pick out a backpack for myself for a trip in Asia next year. I am 5'5" and 120 pounds and a minimalist traveler.

    I just bought the North Face Recon($99) and the Dakine Wonder 25L($25).
    You can manually add the Bungee cord tot he North Face Recon. Unlike the North Face Borealis, the Recon has deeper water bottle pockets. I like the North Face Recon so far, and will try the Dakine Wonder 25L later.

    The suspension system and (back) ventilation is the main reason why I've stuck with Osprey. Singapore is just warm all year long and every bit helps. I use their bags for work, travel, hiking etc. Even my running hydration packs is Osprey. Only other brand that has a similar ventilation system is Deuter, a German company.

    Cheers from Japan but from Canada. Keep up the great work. Been following you since around 1000 subscribers. I am debating on the Able Carry Max, Evergoods CPL28, old Evergoods CTB40 ( a box...lol) and a high end brand in Japan called Rofmia which are all hand made and extremely light. But at a premium costs. I am stuck between the Rofmia and Able Carry which many have complained about it being heavy at 3.8 pounds for a 30 pound bag. Cheers.

    • @DesmondCheng
      @DesmondCheng  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Skipper!
      oh wow always great to hear from some original followers =)
      The Rofmia looks very nice! But I think the big difference is going to be size. The Rofmia seems to fit more of an everyday bag, where you can take it anywhere! The Able Max is on the larger size so I feel like I wouldn't carry that on a everyday basis...
      If you are more into everyday bags, also check out AER! They have some really nice quality bags that are black and sleek like the Rofmia. Stay tuned for first week of April though, new products are launching =)

    So I really like the external cords and at first I was simply indecisive between two classics: the Borealis and the Chacabuco. But then I saw nice reviews about the Refugio, the Tropos and the new Surge. I really don’t know what to buy 😅
    I just want a very versatile backpack for commuting and occasional daily hikes. As I said, aesthetically I really like the Borealis but the Chacabuco/Refugio are much more lighter while having the same size / bigger one. Then again for the same weight of the Borealis, the Surge one is very nice + even bigger and you chose the Tropos as the best one. The Tropos weighs more or less like the TNF ones and it’s more spacious.
    Any advices? 🤯🥺

  • @practicalguy973
    @practicalguy973 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great comparison. I really want to like the North Face Surge but the badly designed water bottle pockets and straps are a no go. I think my 5.11 Rush 24 has a better admin section for organizing stationary, flashlights, tools, cables and electronics. That said, for this video I like the Osprey Tropos for the reason you selected it but I'd need to buy an admin pouch for it to house the gear I mentioned neatly.

    • @DesmondCheng
      @DesmondCheng  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      any good recommendations on a admin pouch? whats ur favorite one? Thanks!

    • @practicalguy973
      @practicalguy973 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DesmondCheng There are either panels or pouches that I've used and it just depends on what bag I'm using so there is no real favorite. Maxpedition is quality and maybe my favorite brand for pouches. They sell the Micro, Mini, E.D.C. and a few other sizes that have elastic loops and pockets that organize well. I own the Maxpedition Mini and Fatty which are great to toss into small backpack pockets for small gear. I also have the Cocoon GRID-IT! which is a stiff panel. As for larger admin pouches I have one that is really spaced well. They don't sell it anymore but its nearly identical layout to the "Savior Equipment Tactical Multi-Purpose EDC Admin Pouch Military Waist Belt Modular Utility Tools Bag Organizer, Laser-Cut Style Molle Attachment Ready " found on Amazon .com and listed as Full Size | 10" x 8" x 1.75". same dimensions as mine. Its good to own a few sizes for sure! I have all my cables, powerbank and tools well organized with these.

    Desy as an idea for a review - compare backpacks for petite women who don't have as big backs as men. I've used in the past LowerPro mini I suppose (smaller than computrekker), bought it in early 2000s. it's great however looking for a big smaller one. also tried another lowerpro backpack opening like a book down which is a bit risky, but it had compartment for other stuff which was helpful for casual use. attachment of the zipper broke there though (the fabric).

    Which bag is the toughest for mud rain snow. That would protect your gear against all bad weather. I'm not worried about straps. I'm worried about the gear that it's inside. And protects my documents and laptop. I need you to do a test. If you were in rain mud snow.

    mind weighing in? son starting college. main 4 goals are: COMFORT, large cavity for books (no clam shell), exterior water, 15" laptop compartment; so as not to duplicate, we have tried the following and returned: Waterfield Pro, Aer Tech 2, all the Patagonia, Osprey, Northface in this large size, Topo Design, all the Thules (son likes the 32L Thule which we are holding on to in case we find nothing better). Most of the youtubers who review backpacks only mention photography, hiking, or travel (clothes) vs school so I've tried my best to find him one based on whatever I can find. Would love to let him test the Greenroom136 Rainmaker and Alpha One Evade but with no returns, that is too costly for me. I'd have to have someone testify to them and convince me they'd be great and check all our boxes. Thank you for reading this lengthy post. Would so appreciate any help you may offer.
