I really appreciate the way you present your photos in three steps: finished result, raw frame, edited & cropped inset. I find this incredibly helpful to improving my own visualizing process. Thank you for another helpful video.
Well done. I like how you show us the raw file and then your edited finished product. I also really enjoy being able to see through your viewfinder . I feel like I was there photographing too. Thank you.
When you got the shot of the male and female red-rumped parrots both drinking from the perch, I couldn't help but shout "f*** yeah!!" in excitement. That's the feeling we're all chasing every time in the field, thank you so much for sharing this moment with us!
Duade you have encouraged me to go and ask a land owner if I can access his dam. It is a few hundred metres from a quite large body of water but I often see various birds heading to it. Apart from the birds I think it would offer better compositional shots. Thanks.
Good luck Tony, some dams are much better than others, but if you have seen birds going that is a very good sign. It may take some time for the birds to get accustomed to the perches so you may have to go, setup the perches then come back another time. As its on private property you could consider using star pickets and then attach the perches to that. Just make sure some of the perches lead to the water as birds love to lean down and drink like you saw here. Good luck. Cheers, Duade
Those photos where the birds are dipping into the water to take a drink are fabulous with the reflection. I live in Myrtleford so I must make some trips the Winton Wetlands for some birding, it looks great.
Hey Duade, pleased to see you found the dam. Isn’t it amazing the numbers and different species that come to that location, I even had a huge echidna come to have a drink and a swim when I was there. The Camo Blind certainly helps, I didn’t have mine at the time and the kingfishers, and Cockies wouldn’t come in to land when they saw me. There’s also another dam about 150 metres to the right of that location but a bit harder to get into because of the thistles. Loved the video and I’m hoping to get back down there again soon.
Love this type of video from you mate.. if that was in the UK there'd be 40 photographers around that dam daily. So in the UK that dam spot would be a closely guarded secret for fear of this. 😭 Good lord that Kingfisher shot!!
Woww what a location you have discovered Duade !!! Reflection shot after reflection shot. The best way to start my weekend was discovering your video as I sat down with my coffee and those images, just wowww !!! Congrats to you and the lovely guy who shared the location with you.
Thanks Debra, if it gets dry in your area and you have access to a location with birds you could consider building your own water source, over time the birds will often figure it out and come to it. You ideally need a staging area with some trees and then branches leading to the water. Cheers, Duade
Yes. Amazing photos. As usual with Duade. And yes, rather than running around looking for a place where birds gather, it's much more effective to make such a place yourself :) Thanks Duade for another great video!
Hi Duade, long time no see! Great session (apart from the mozzies!), yup, location location location! Those cute Red-rumped... I see the Quail as a total win, no matter the distance and un-ideal background. That's just life ;-) So, that photo is my fave, just bcs it was such a random non-parrot'y model.
Thanks Pia, great way to think of it, yes, I was surprised to see the Quail so was happy to photograph it. They usually skulk around in the grass and fly when you get close giving you a big jump scare lol. Cheers, Duade
Wonderful footage and images - I love the colourful birds you have there, and your reflection shots are superb. Cheered me up seeing this, as I am watching it on a dreary, damp and freezing cold day in the UK! Roll on springtime!
As usual mate another cracking video. It’s always good to inspire others which you do with all your content. I as I’m sure plenty of others do always take something away from it to either try or use the ideas you come up with to implement in our own sessions in the field.
As always Duade beautiful photos . Like you stated having a zoom lens in this situation is the best lens to have , you would be stuck with your prime lens only in one pose .
Thanks Gary, yes, I guess it depends what you are going for. I guess if I really wanted the best IQ etc I would have to position myself to just the reflection spot and nail that, then move elsewhere which just takes time and does reduce the amount of shots you may get at once. I guess I could have in theory had both there and switched between them. Cheers, Duade

Amazing how a little water can yield such wonderful images. Even though the birds used the other perch, you managed to capture some wonderful reflections of them drinking.

Such a range of beautiful birds in Australia. Harry Collins' Costa Rica trip too - such colours in contrast to our local greys, browns and greens. Pretty motivating. Thanks for the video.
I remember cruising in Central Queensland a couple of years ago, it was very dry, around mid-morning I thought, "the next shady tree I'll pull up for a quick cuppa" soon as I pulled up noticed a few birds fly away, on investigation there was around a 2m diameter pool of water under the tree. I whipped out the Canon 600mm and the quick cuppa turned into a six hour stop. Some of my best images to date were from that session, probably a couple of thousand shots and many, many different species. Love it when that happens !!! Great session there too Duade !
Amazing video and fantastic images. My wife and I are in the first stages of planning a trip to Australia and seeing this makes me certain I am taking my 200-800 and probably both camera bodies. I suspect we will do 6 to 8 weeks since a dream we have is to visit Darwin along with the main cities of Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. I hope Australia tourism realizes how your videos influence travel decisions!!
I absolutely love your videos Duade. This video has inspired me so much! I was so excited to wait and see the birds land on the perch for a drink! Great work 🥰😍
Great photos Duade. I visited the Winton Wetlands a couple of years ago but there was quite a bit of water in the lagoons and birds were pretty well spread. Apart from the birds and Roos I saw a couple of pretty ‘interesting reptiles’. I think visitors should realise they may have to share the Winton experience with a few scaly friends. 😊
Thanks Kim, yes, it changed a lot over the years, from being flooded to being very dry. We just havent had any rain so it is looking very dry at the moment. Yes I see snakes pretty regurlarly but can't recall seeing too many other reptiles, I will have to keep my eyes open. Cheers, Duade
