The real duel was during every practice. When Phil Jackson took over in 1989, he immediately assigned Pippen to guard Jordan during each and every practice. Pippen became a hell of a defender.

Yup and I have always compared Lebron to Pip not MJ. Both point forwards both great passers but Pip a way way better defender and for that I would take Pip over LBJ all day long.

This is not the only duel these 2 have had. Back in 1995 Scottie Pippen hosted an allstar charity game in Chicago and when failing to sell tickets he summoned MJ to play during his baseball off season. Tickets sold out that weekend as the 2 dueled it out on opposing teams head to head guarding eachother. This is when both were in their primes.

Actually, the 1994 Scottie Pippen's Benefit Game was the 1st official duel. Jordan was away from basketball for a year and torched Pippen's team. I say 1st official duel because Pippen had to check Jordan in practice more than any other player, an exceptional training in basketball defence.
Correct Jordan I believe scored 48 point and Pip was defending Jordan.

As a longtime Blazers fan, this team was loaded. It's a shame they fell short to the Lakers after being up 17 points
...and they say Kobe never passed. they blew even a 20 point lead. Had they Sabonis in his prime, the lakers wouldn't hang so close and they would lose.
We didn't understand how classic his wizards comeback was in the early 00's. I remember people didn't think much of it bc he didn't take the team too far.
But it was the fact that he was teaching the next class of upcoming greats and solidified current greats.
I remember the 2001 season so well obviously, being of classic times the year of Iverson's greatness in Philadelphia.

In short Pippen was the main reason why the Bulls really won. He was the big factor, not Jordan because they really got close without him.

They actually went head to head in 1994. Pippen asked MJ to participate in his Charity basketball game when Jordan was retired and playing baseball. According to John Starks, who was on Jordan’s team, Pippen stacked his team against Jordan. Jordan and Pippen guarded each other. Jordan dropped 52 and Jordan’s team beat Pippen’s.

It was weird seeing these two facing off against each other without being on the same NBA team or Olympic team. Also holy crap I forgot all about Larry Hughes. I remember the Cavaliers signed him in the 2005-2006 season to partner up with LeBron to be the Cavaliers one two punch. And that didn't work out so well don't get me wrong he had his "moments" like dropping 40+ on the Jazz in Denver. Him and LeBron vs Deron Williams and Carlos Booooozer. yet when he played with Barkley he was a scrub... it was intentional, he wasted an entire season, think it was shortened due to a crybaby lockout on both sides, players and owners, but pippen mysteriously was garbage that one season. Then signs next season with portland and he's rejuvenated.

you can really tell the difference between the teams here. Jordan has to carry his team offensively because while his team appears to do fine defensively his team mates offensive play is terrible. So Pippens team doubling up on Jordan is much more effective from when the time Jordan was a bulls player and has good team mates all around him.

In Jordan's first three seasons his Bulls teammates were an even worse "supporting" cast than on his Wizards team. But Jordan was unstoppable in his early years and too quick to properly double.

I could be wrong and all that but the opposite conference explanation would only be a conclusive explanation if they only played once every two years in opposite conferences.
