@@ellec2935I keep saying and nobody can give me an answer or I should say I keep asking this. What would these morbidly obese people do if their spouse or significant other got cancer or ALS or even Ms like I have? What's going to happen when they need their partner to step up to the plate and take care of them? In my opinion I think they would either have someone else care for their spouse and continue eating themselves to humongous sizes. I honestly believe if they were told choose between the life of your significant other or spouse or you can eat as much as you want for the rest of your life and never gain an ounce and be cared for until you die I'd say 90% of them would take the food. If there was a famine and their children were going hungry I honestly believe most of these people would eat their children's food and let them starve. Anyone who eats themselves to the weight of a well-fed polar bear and if you're 600 lb and a female that's what you've done are and if you're a male and you're 800 lbs are over that's what you've done then they are way too mentally ill or traumatized or whatever you want to call it to be in any type of relationship. Because when you love someone it's giving take. You don't just take and take from them you give as well. These morbidly obese people on this show are the same as the people on hoarders. It is always me me me me and it's all about what makes them happy. There was one man on here who talked really fast and I couldn't stand him you could tell his girlfriend was exhausted.. he was also addicted to painkillers and busted at Staples I think on purpose to get opioids. Didn't work because the good doctor didn't give him any. Anyway this woman was trying to lift on an 800 lb man and she easily could have blown her back out and been in agonizing pain for the rest of her life. He didn't care he was just telling her to hurry. I would suggest that anyone who purposely makes themselves disabled you should run from as fast as possible
She’s not trying to have children while he’s at what appears to be at deaths door and be a single parent in the long run!
If that takes place, she can go on with her life without bringing her past into her future. I respect that. She can have children with her future husband if things go “south”.

They definitely aren't all feeders. My mom's bestie is 550 and her husband has been trying for YEARS to get her to stop. She waddles herself into the kitchen to feed herself because he will not make anything besides dinner for her. And only makes a proper portion

Different people respond differently to stress 😊 The same water that softens the potato gardens the egg. There’s no shame in that.

These people never have jobs, if they have a family they’re never the ones taking care of their family and they’re always getting waited on hand and foot by their family or a free caretaker provided by the government. It drives me insane when they say they’re “stressed” or “working hard” when they literally lay at home eating and do nothing all day. They literally have one job which is not to eat enough for ten people and most of them can’t even do that much. They need to stop claiming they’re stressed or working hard because they don’t seem to know what those things even mean.
If you continuously avoid dealing with your emotions, smaller and smaller things feel like they need to be avoided. I can imagine that at this point a lot of them are eating to distract themselves from the shame they feel over getting to this size

I'm pretty stressed about my studies and rent... but that doesn't seem to be in your list, I guess my stress isn't valid.
I'm also stressed having moved across the country and being in a new place, and from being on a diet because I have lost a coping mechanism and I'm struggling to find something else - I guess they don't count either.

She was the only one working so how much difference would that make if he wasn't there? It would make her life simpler not having to cater to him and feed him large quantities of food. Maybe she would feel alone and maybe based on her culture she was brought up to be subservient to the males in her life, so she believed she could not control his eating the way she would like.

My trainer wasn't ripped ( female trainer) but she played soccer/football/basketball sometimes all on the same day. You don't need " gym muscles" you need real life health.

I'm glad your husband and faimly were important enough for you to make the changes you needed. my ex did the same about his drinking alcohol. he promised but then broke it and it turned into a cycle until i left. this man has an addiction much like drugs and alcohol and while i can be understanding to a point its a struggle you do bring everyone down with you, and thats not fair to them, especially if the person who needs to make the changes does nothing to make the changes, its not going to happen by magic.
Amen. I lost 100 pounds in a year and have kept it at 120 for 15 years. My health was terrible and I did it for my husband. He list 75 as collateral.

The night before he died I asked him "don't you want to live a healthy life with me and grow old? Get married and travel?" And he broke down in tears snd said "of course I do. More than you know". I knew without a doubt that man loved me with everything he had. He tried many, many times but his demons were just stronger. It did not mean he loved me any less

I understand the hopeless feeling from when I was fat, BUT -- to go on this show and say that? No, that I don't understand. We viewers only see the final product; but TONS of footage and forms are involved in doing something like this. I've never understood how -- at SOME point during this lengthy and complex process -- they don’t click that switch mentally and grab this golden opportunity like a Gila monster grabbing a prairie dog.
If I'd gone on the show, I would've! But although I was clinically obese I'm a little shortie so I was never near 600 pounds.
(Re Gila monsters. . . once they latch on, sometimes even if they’re decapitated, their jaws won't let go. They're beautiful but dangerous critters)

He is beyond lucky that woman cares about him so much. She’s beautiful, smart and calls him out. She is Dr. Now’s dream patient wife.

She would practically be a single mum on top of taking care of her dying husband.

I've noticed people from overseas particularly Africa and Middle East etc will tell you straight up about what your eating. They literally be appalled/shocked by the things we eat 🤣😭 and they don't be shy to say it. I live in NY and they always be commenting on sugary drinks, the amount of food we eat, the fast foods we like 🤣 be like u sure u don't wanna drink some water, you know that's not healthy for you. They aren't rude, just honest. I find it very sweet and a wake up call for us Americans lol

I've noticed that a lot of folks on this show think Dr. Now is a wizard and the surgery is gonna be like waving a magic wand and poof, they'll be skinny. They want the results, but don't want to do the work. The fact is, getting the surgery is the easy part. Sticking to your post-op diet and committing to completely changing your life and habits, that's the hard part. I had WLS back in March of this year and I've lost 85lbs since. But it never would've happened if I kept in doing what got me up to 300lbs in the first place. Einstein's definition of insanity comes to mind...

As an RN over 30 years these weights can usually cause: respiratory failure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, horrible skin ulcers, joint failure, loss of mobility and loss of life.

If it was for a green card she could leave already she’s been with him long enough I’m sure, plus she could find a new guy if she wanted

I didn't understand the sports fan yelling at the tv either until this show and cooking shows ended up having me yelling at the tv to at times forgetting my English while yelling. My fiance thinks it's the most hysterical thing.

What he says (after you’ve dicked him around for a full year and seen no progress).. is, “when you’re serious about the program.. and think you’re starting to lose weight, THEN GIVE ME A CALL.” He doesn’t shut people out or kick anyone ‘off or out of the program.’ The man’s a saint ❤
Ontreon irritated the heck out of me. He didn’t really try at all, not for more than a few days at a time.
This man is infuriating!! Such a beautiful sweet wife, everything to live for . Hes been obviously treated like the little king with no accountability by his grandparents while his mother worked hard.

He reminds me of that fable where a flood hits this city. A person comes by car to get citizens, and one person says, "The Lord will save me." And excuses the person with the car. Water rises, and a person with a canoe comes by. Again, the person says, "The Lord will save me." And tells the canoe person to leave. Water rises, and now they're stuck on their roof. Helicopter comes and the person says, "The Lord will save me!" And tells them to go away. Helicopter leaves, the water rises and they drown. They get to the pearly gates and say, "Lord, why didn't you save me?" He says, "I gave you a car, a canoe, and a helicopter. What more did you want?!!"

How did he fail to read the diet book? He had a whole month, and his wife read it. So even if he's a slow reader, that should've been enough time...

Green card spouse or not, her not wanting to have kids unless/until he changes and makes being a healthy, fully functional weight before trying for kids is more than reasonable! She wouldn't want to go into parenthood knowing she'll effectively be a single mom ON TOP of having to be her husband's caretaker. We've seen the toll having a 600lb+ parent has on these kids, so avoiding the situation from the outset is admirable!!

My mom used to have a saying for people like Ontreon: "Some people are so holy that they're no earthly good!"
I’ll probably get attacked for saying this but I feel like a lot of religious people lean into the “it’s in God’s hands” mindset so much that they refuse to do anything for themselves. Like the woman who asked Dr. Now if he believed in God and then said if God wanted her to lose weight then she would have lost weight by now, all while she refused to follow the diet and was having her boyfriend sneak food into the hospital for her. I feel like Ontreon has the same mindset that God is going to come perform a miracle so he doesn’t actually have to put in any work. Life doesn’t work like that.
How can ministry school take only a few months?!
A doctorate of divinity is usually well beyond the PhD level, which in itself is four years of undergrad plus three to five more years of grad school including independent research. No way that amount of time has passed, and he could not have been hoofing it across campus at that size.

Ontreon seemed nice, but also immature and selfish in some ways. He whined every time things weren't exactly how he wanted it: the food is icky, that makes me tired, I don't want veggies, I know more than people who obviously know more. He needs to mature.
He also strikes me as someone who is really good at talking himself out of corners so he doesn't have to actually make a full commitment.

I know these people are addicts but they're also large children. I've never heard of functioning adult in a hospital setting or even at a dinner say yuck I don't eat vegetables. Or none of this food looks any good. My kids wouldn't have gotten away with that at age 7. You eat this or you don't eat! Addiction I agree is the problem but before addiction I think these people have the mentality of five and six year olds
55:11 One more reason Dr Now hates protein shakes is because not all protein shakes are created equal. I learned that when I started looking at them for maintenance. Ditto for so-called "keto" meal replacement bars, some of which aren't much better than a regular candy bar. There's no legal food definition of "keto". Snickers actually makes a protein bar! Haven't had one, but they are supposed to be good with a good amount of protein and low sugar. My surgeon wants me to have only one per day, if needed, to supplement the protein from real foods. I'm 8 weeks out and can get most of my protein from food now. You do have to be careful with the protein products. They can have just as many calories as the regular albeit with more protein

I really appreciate the way he sat at the table and ate in a sensible way. I don't know if this is representative of his norm , but it was nice to see. When my sister met her husband from Brazil, he was already here legally on a work visa. Marrying my sister didn’t change his process of becoming a citizen. He still had to take the classes, study, and take the test.
He should get his stuff together for his wife because she is pretty, loyal, a good person and actually wants the best for him. She's not gonna screw over her possible child tough and I really respect her for that.
In the beginning, Sean said that she's looking to obtain a green card through that marriage. Well, that might be a side perk she wants from the marriage, but she not a passport sis, she truly invests all she's got into this relationship. I really liked the girl. She's not only kind and sympathetic, but also very considerate to not give birth to kids as long as her husband is hardly walking. He's extremely lucky. Widh thrm a long happy marriage.

Why do these people hate being so big… and yet when they get their golden opportunity for help, resist it so hard? Lying to Dr. Now, little to no effort. Here’s their chance to change their life and they dig in their heels.
I think it's like an addiction. . . like the way it can take alcoholics many, many attempts to finally go sober. But as a former fat myself, I would think that by the time they do all the many, many preliminaries involved in getting on this show in the first place, they would've (as Sean says) "hit that switch" mentally, into recognizing what a priceless opportunity they have now and how now they CAN change.

I used to be one of those 'after this meal' or 'starting tomorrow' types until I realized I need to get my rear in gear with making lifestyle changes. When I was last in the hospital for sepsis from kidney stones and ended up diagnosed with diabetes out of the blue, I immediately started on the diabetic diet meal options. The hospital staff looked at me like I was a unicorn for making the changes that fast and sticking with them.

Omg you are so hilarious.. I actually gained about 60-70 lbs this past year while I had to stay in an out of state hospital with my son while he waited for a heart transplant. I came home a few months ago feeling so horrible about myself and how bad I let myself go but listening to these has given me the drive to try to change things and myself back to where I used to be ! I went from 311lbs and getting out of breath on a couple flights of stairs, to 169lbs climbing trees and hanging upside down with my preteen. I love being active now, walking miles, playing with my kids, and biking. The 1200cal low-carb diet works. 💪

After she graduated from college my daughter went into the Peace corps and was in Ethiopia about 12 years ago. She was there for 2 years and when she came home she said Mom now I know why we weren't allowed to say I'm starving when we were growing up. This woman probably comes from a country much like Ethiopia where you don't eat for Joy you eat to live. I'm surprised that she's not blowing up. I know if I came from a country where people were starving and saw someone who was that big and complained all the time and wouldn't do anything I would have zero patience and zero tolerance
