Not known as the queen of mix for nothing!! She can sing any genre & sing it to the same high standard,she can even be seen rapping in a song called 'day day' (on the shows 'begin again korea' or 'king of mask singer') but her heart is in gospel. She has such excellent technique that she is able to adapt to any genre that is thrown at her & all she has to do is portray the emotion,to which she is second to none. People often wonder,upon hearing her voice for the 1st time,why she's not a worldwide superstar,something that her voice surely merits,but she is not interested in fame/fortune. At various points,all the big record companies have tried to sign her but she has always declined,preferring to stay independent & do her own thing (you should read her back story which will explain why she feels this way) Apart from the amazing vocals,she is a masterful arranger & is responsible for the arrangements of all the songs she performs,as she did with 'bridge over troubled water'. She is also a published fantasy novelist & is a university lecturer in singing.

@@JacobBurtonStudios Just calling em the way I see em, Jacob. And in my view, you offer so much to potential students...plus I love HOW you do it in such a down to earth, encouraging, friendly way. And that's not a feeling that I've seen many other coaches do, where often they seem to be ALL cold technical advice, sometimes even giving it in such a haughty and condescending manner. SUCH a turn off!!! If I were a potential student and needed vocal training advice, I would soooo gravitate towards someone with warmth and is personable, rather than the autocratic "do as I say" coach. I would be MUCH happier investing my hard earned money with YOUR way of coaching. Like I said, just trying to be honest.

I get almost angry at vocal coaches doing these reactions who look for things to nitpick about the performer and performance when they should look for things the performer does right and use them as teaching points. Some feel compelled by their "expertise" to criticize - the more skilled the performer, the harder they hack away. Condescending is the right word. I watched one big shot coach who said Sohyang should come to see him so he could help her clean up her singing. WOW! Sohyang gives singing lessons as she sings. Sorry about the rant, but the fans know what I'm saying is true. Cheers.

A couple of years ago, Oprah Winfrey recommended David Foster to join music performances with Sohyang and Michael Bolton proposed the global tour with her and also many transnational music companies have wanted to contract with her but she has declined their proposals because of 2 reasons: frequent pneumonia and religious mission.

What you say about the locked in mix sounds pretty similar to word fellow TH-cam vocal coach reactor Dr. Marc Reynolds says about hitting high notes with a narrow vowel versus a wide vowel . When describing Dimash’s performance, he said that usually you do have to narrow the vowel[Which most of us already know] in order to hit those high notes, but after a while you have such muscle memory about how it feels in your Résonance cavity and the vibrations you get in your head, that you can just achieve the same note in the same range , with the same register and the same color. He didn’t call it using mixed voice specifically, but it makes sense that that’s what he’s talking about with when it comes to belting up high. So I think that’s what you’re talking about with the “locked in mix”.
Yes! Basically when you hear me say "locked in mix" I'm referring to a voice that has eliminated its bridges so effectively, that some of the strategies like narrowing of a vowel become less needed in order to access mix notes. A locked in mix can basically mix whenever, wherever, however 💁🏼♂️

I fistpumped when you speculated that she had a strong mix based on the first verse, you are the only reactor who I've seen do that on their initial reaction to her. As I've seen you speculate with other commenters, G5 is nowhere near how high she can take it and is pretty much the sweetspot of her tessitura. I think she's internalized her mix to the point where she doesn't think at all about bridges or even registers, she just thinks about the sound she wants to make and it comes out of her face with the proper coordination and vowel modification. I'll leave it for others to tell her personal story, but the great thing is that she's taken these tools and used them in service of the story she wants to tell and as you go through her catalog you will see that she radiates a fundamental goodness that affects the audience in a way that is almost indescribable (at least for me.) Anyway, much too long a comment I know, but very nice reaction and I look forward to you seeing more of her work including her recent performances which are much more stripped down than the other stuff reactors usually pick.
It wasn’t about showing great insight, so much as using the logical guess that in order to sing super high as she starting this song, you’re gonna need a great mix voice to continue singing high and go even higher. That’s what mix voice helps you to do, make those crazy transitions, before resorting to head voice where you eventually have to. But also what he needs to understand, and I’m sure he does now, is that So Hyang has a very high voice anyway, so she can take as much chest voice muscle up there, and even using a heavy mixed to do that, as possible.
SoHyang is an amazing singer ,,,you should look at her version of the Michael Bolton song " Lean on Me".....it will take you into the stratosphere. @@JacobBurtonStudios Just calling em the way I see em, Jacob. And in my view, you offer so much to potential students...plus I love HOW you do it in such a down to earth, encouraging, friendly way. And that's not a feeling that I've seen many other coaches do, where often they seem to be ALL cold technical advice, sometimes even giving it in such a haughty and condescending manner. SUCH a turn off!!! If I were a potential student and needed vocal training advice, I would soooo gravitate towards someone with warmth and is personable, rather than the autocratic "do as I say" coach. I would be MUCH happier investing my hard earned money with YOUR way of coaching. Like I said, just trying to be honest.

@@lauriandawkins7264 So true. I get almost angry at vocal coaches doing these reactions who look for things to nitpick about the performer and performance when they should look for things the performer does right and use them as teaching points.
Some feel compelled by their "expertise" to criticize - the more skilled the performer, the harder they hack away. Condescending is the right word.
I watched one big shot coach who said Sohyang should come to see him so he could help her clean up her singing. WOW! Sohyang gives singing lessons as she sings.
Sorry about the rant, but the fans know what I'm saying is true.

A couple of years ago, Oprah Winfrey recommended David Foster to join music performances with Sohyang and Michael Bolton proposed the global tour with her and also many transnational music companies have wanted to contract with her but she has declined their proposals because of 2 reasons: frequent pneumonia and religious mission.

What you say about the locked in mix sounds pretty similar to word fellow TH-cam vocal coach reactor Dr. Marc Reynolds says about hitting high notes with a narrow vowel versus a wide vowel . When describing Dimash’s performance, he said that usually you do have to narrow the vowel[Which most of us already know] in order to hit those high notes, but after a while you have such muscle memory about how it feels in your Résonance cavity and the vibrations you get in your head, that you can just achieve the same note in the same range , with the same register and the same color. He didn’t call it using mixed voice specifically, but it makes sense that that’s what he’s talking about with when it comes to belting up high. So I think that’s what you’re talking about with the “locked in mix”.
Yes! Basically when you hear me say "locked in mix" I'm referring to a voice that has eliminated its bridges so effectively, that some of the strategies like narrowing of a vowel become less needed in order to access mix notes. A locked in mix can basically mix whenever, wherever, however 💁🏼♂️

I fistpumped when you speculated that she had a strong mix based on the first verse, you are the only reactor who I've seen do that on their initial reaction to her. As I've seen you speculate with other commenters, G5 is nowhere near how high she can take it and is pretty much the sweetspot of her tessitura. I think she's internalized her mix to the point where she doesn't think at all about bridges or even registers, she just thinks about the sound she wants to make and it comes out of her face with the proper coordination and vowel modification. I'll leave it for others to tell her personal story, but the great thing is that she's taken these tools and used them in service of the story she wants to tell and as you go through her catalog you will see that she radiates a fundamental goodness that affects the audience in a way that is almost indescribable (at least for me.) Anyway, much too long a comment I know, but very nice reaction and I look forward to you seeing more of her work including her recent performances which are much more stripped down than the other stuff reactors usually pick.

Sing isn't about to go higher but she is great
It wasn’t about showing great insight, so much as using the logical guess that in order to sing super high as she starting this song, you’re gonna need a great mix voice to continue singing high and go even higher. That’s what mix voice helps you to do, make those crazy transitions, before resorting to head voice where you eventually have to. But also what he needs to understand, and I’m sure he does now, is that So Hyang has a very high voice anyway, so she can take as much chest voice muscle up there, and even using a heavy mixed to do that, as possible.
I sang a Morissette Sohyang cover song and it was also a duet...
SoHyang is an amazing singer ,,,you should look at her version of the Michael Bolton song " Lean on Me".....it will take you into the stratosphere. For another great cover of this song with HARMONIES ....search for 4th Impact ....4 sisters from The Philippines who have outstanding harmonies. They auditioned for X Factor UK (2015) , and their audition video has more than 177 million views.
