      @@imslumpedout335 Because it's not funny at all. Just because someone is deemed different, where's the humor in that? These tribes are sacred, "salt of the Earth" type of folk. It saddens me that there are less than a handful of tribes that haven't been exposed to modernization. Human beings in general are the most greedy and ignorant species on the planet. We have refused to realize that there isn't just one way to live. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with being "different".

      Actually. 4 things are needed in this world.
      Food, Water, a good body temperature And other people that make you feel happy.
      When you can get those 4 things, Your actually done. So if you know how to dissapear. You just have to survive.

      Happiness is relative to a person's situation. If a professional basketball player whose entire life is basketball gets his leg amputated, guess what, he's going to be very upset even though there are plenty of happy paraplegics. If a single mother of two gets evicted from her house and is now homeless on the streets, she's going to feel depressed even though there are content families halfway across the world who have never lived in a modern home and live off less than $3 a day.

    Listen to when he's talking about how long it takes for the darts. He says minute instead of his own language. Where he lives he has no concept of time, no measurement for it. It's just sunrise sunset. No wonder he's so happy. No meeting at 9 or bedtime at 11. Just wake with the sun and set with it.

    Hope he managed to pass down his knowledge. The Penans love their rainforest, it is their home and their way of life. They find contentment living as nomads, they have done so for hundreds of years. New generations of Borneans are doing their best to remove corrupt governments that are selling off native customary rights lands and national parks as well as allowing illegal loggers the destroy the jungle. There are 3 countries that have 'jurisdiction' in Borneo which makes creating blanket policies for the whole island difficult ( Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia).
    Many decades ago the use of the blowpipe was still very common among most of the tribes in Borneo. As a Kayan from the Apoh area (my parents are from Long Bedian and Long Bemang, respectively) we only have my great grandfathers' blowpipe as heirlooms. The practice started to die out when shotguns were introduced and there was a time the use was completely banned during the Japanese occupation during WWII. The Japanese feared the blowpipe and poison darts due to its stealthy nature.

      Actually I believe (could be wrong) that it's a protein from native frogs. I think it's a hemo-toxin and the digestive system nullifies it.

    • @my4thprofile365

      I think it's curare. There is an abundance of ipoh tree (i dont know what its called in english). Essentially it blocks neuromuscular transmission even to respiratory muscles. Blood has an abundance of enzyme that hyrolyses it but not fast enough before the apnoea kills the animal. Once a guide in Mulu told me that the effect on small animals is that they seem to "shiver" a bit first before dropping dead from not being able to breath. Sounds to me like fasciculations from depolarising neuromuscular blockade. they enzyme should persist even after the animal is dead

    • @my4thprofile365
      @my4thprofile365 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Initially I suppose, but like I mentioned earlier it gets rapidly hydrolysed by enzymes in the blood. and the enzyme stays around for sometime after the animal dies. Curare was used in medical anaesthesia for years and seemed pretty safe... i guess
