I’ve generally been very cautious of all mainstream horror franchises over the years. I’ve seen a few movies of each franchise here and there, and the ones that I have seen didn’t exactly lead me to want to see more. But as of recently, a lot of mainstream horror franchises have gotten sequels or reboots that have been met with a fair bit of praise. One of those of course is Scream.

Not sure if anyone pointed this out yet but Tara is not Billy's kid. He was dead by the time she was born and is actually their unknown dad's child that Sam explained left in Scream 5

Courtney Cox was an executive producer on Scream 6 so thats why shes in that movie! Also Wes Craven intentially left Kirby's death open ended so she could possibly come back!
Courtney Cox has also said she loves playing Gale so much, she would play her for any salary.
Courtney has also said that she loves Gale and Scream so much that she’d even do it for free. Not shading Neve here but she wasn’t in the one of the most popular sitcom shows of all time whereas Courtney was (Friends) so for Courtney the money keeps coming and she doesn’t probably need to be payed a lot to return in Scream
I never understood why people didn't like Scream 4, i always really liked it lol i definitely get the issues with the interference from the executives, for sure. But i cant talk too much, i was a hater of Scream 3 for a while but ive grown to really like it (flaws and all). I will say the actual storyline we were supposed to get from Scream 4-6 is very interesting and i wish we got that. I do love Scream 5 and 6 either way but the thought of a killer surviving is a cool concept for this franchise.
I like scream 3 and 4 but im obsessed with 3. Scream 4 lacked a good cast imo.
The only good thing about 4 ist the killer reveal and the Alternative ending.
The opening is on first watch surprising, but then it gets boring. It misses the tension and suspense. You dont really care for the Protagonists.
No chase scenes, which 1-3 had and were great.
The little chase at the barn with Gale was meh.
No likeable characters at all, except kirby.
The scenes with ghostface werent that good. The only scene that stood out a bit was the "i didnt say im in your closet"
Gale and dewey underused, sidney feels bored.
The movie did a lot of things wrong.
The Filter was also horrible
I liked scream 4 a lot. It's maybe my 3rd favorite. The killer girl in it beating the crap outta herself always made me think she's truly the most loony crazy killer
I love how in the the first 2 movies the extent of the vfx was a car crash and such but by the third movie they just were like "yea lets blow up an entire freaking house"

I was waiting for you to mention the situation going on with Scream 7. In all honesty, I'm not excited about it, and i honestly hope that nobody returns and the cast stands behind Melissa Barrera because she deserves so much better, she got hated on and bullied by pretty intensely by the fans of the franchise and Scream 6 made her a fan-favorite. Then she gets fired for speaking out, and the only way i would get excited again is if Spyglass rehires Melissa and apologizes to her. This franchise really fell apart due to studio greed, interference, and false accusations.
We can only hope Scream 7 gets picked up by a different studio. Such a shame.
Let Miramax take it back.
It just hasn't felt the same since the Dimension name has been inactive.
3:25 one things thats so funny and is so cool to me about Scream as a franchise is that Liev Schreiber actually is in Scream (1996) - so you are correct when saying he’s in Scream. he just is literally an extra with 0 lines but they kept great continuity and brought him back for the sequels with a much larger role.

It’s good to see someone new to the franchise praising Scream 3. I always felt that film was hated on too much. I’m also glad to see someone criticizing Scream 4. That film just doesn’t click to me like the original trilogy. I even liked Scream 5 and 6 more than that film.
Scream is my 2nd favorite horror franchise (just right behind Halloween). My ranking and rating of each film:
1. Scream 2 (10/10)
2. Scream (10/10)

I'd move 4 up to 3. But other than that I agree
41:30 the idea that there was another secret killer that was able to get away with it could be interesting.
I think the original idea in scream 5 (more like this is my headcanon) that Stu is Tara’s father, Christina went to the scream 1 finale to help Billy escape, he was dead so she dragged an unconscious Stu out, then maybe the sheriff who was a red herring could help her and Stu’s dad cover up him living, he has scars, takes on a new name with Christina and they raise Sam and eventually Tara together, Sam reveals the diary and either he didn’t know and left or he knew and left to hid his identity, Scream 7 would be Christina and Stu as killers, Christina wants to kill Sydney, Stu wants to kill Gake for how she portrayed him in her books, Stu kills christina because she starts acting too much like Billy and he’s tired of being a henchman, the carpenter sisters fight their urges and let Kirby arrest him so he can play a Hannibal Lecter type role in future films, would’ve been better in S3 but I could see it working in these new movies if the studio wouldn’t keep messsing stuff up
Not sure if anyone mentioned it but when Billy sneaks into Sidney's bedroom and make out with her the background song is a cover of "Don't Fear the Reaper" which the og version was used in Halloween so it kind of teases the reveal at the end of the film
I love the praise that you gave Scream 3. It is so underrated and definitely better than Scream 4 and 5
Thank you for covering this. Had never seen it before but when you gave a spoiler alert, I stopped this video so I could check out the movies since you got me interested. Saw all 6 with my wife in a week and we enjoyed them a lot! Now I came back to watch this video. Great stuff!
Scream is such a great franchise. So many franchises get dull but scream delivers every film. I remember seeing the first one when I was young. I saw it way before scary movie and it scared the hell out of me lol I remember my family renting it and I sneaked in the living room and just kinda hung out and watched it with them. That was about 1998. I was 7 years old. As I grew up it’s become one of my favorite movies of all time. The first 10 minutes are golden. The nostalgia every time i watch it. I love and miss the 90’s. The sequels are so fun too.
I saw scream when I was a kid too but the haunted mask from goosebumps that mask scared the crap out of me when I was a kid

I think the “ suspect “ characters in both scream 5 and 6 could’ve been written better. They just feel like their just in the script to be in the beginning and final act
Spyglass fucked up big time by firing Melissa just because she speak up about the genocide that is happening in Palestine. Jenna also quit and followed Melissa and Spyglass really tried to cover it up by saying that it's a "scheduling problem" because she was filming Wednesday season 2 when Wednesday hasn't even started filming yet. I just hope that Scream 7 is going to have a different studio and have Melissa and Jenna back because I'm not going to watch Scream 7 without them in it

Scream is truly one of my favorite horror movie franchise ever if not possibly my favorite this franchise doesn't really have a bad movie even Scream 3 which most would consider the worst is still better than most horror movies here , also for me personally whenever I hear Red Right Hand I think of Scream and maybe this is because I've never seen Peaky Blinders so I associate Red Right Hand with the Scream franchise 😂
I’m honestly just surprised that Peaky Blinders would use that song when it’s so closely associated with the Scream franchise 😂 Guess it all depends on which you hear it from first

Not at all more credit than the franchise deserves, it is one of the most consistent horror franchises ever. Rather any Scream movie than concepts like characters going to space and so on.

Just to add from your comments at the end. I definitely don’t think Billy had a “Just because” motive. He wanted to get back at Sidney and especially her mom for breaking up his family and his motive was “your mom took away my chance at a happy life now I’m going to take yours”
Scream 2 is the greatest film in this franchise imo. It has all the best elements of the franchise & some of the greatest suspense sequences in horror history. Gale’s chase scene in the sound studio is incredible. It also has the best cinematography, especially considering the underlying theme of the Greek play. It’s so grand and theatrical.

Scream might not be my favourite horror movie. BUT, it's far and away my favourite franchise. I also watched Scary Movie as a kid, so the first time I watched it I thought Dewie was the killer.
I love the theme song, it definitely sets the stage. I don't like horror movies in general, but Scream is so different and rises above the rest imo.

Fantastic video! I love this franchise and what is terrifying about GhostFace (compared with other slasher legends like Freddy, Jason or Michael Myers) is that behind the mask can be anyone (a good friend, a love interest, a family member, a random stranger, etc) and the murder mystery continues for any new Scream film/tv series

The rule of gold with the "Scream" franchise is that if you don't scream. It's not a good "Scream" movie.
I like sams character alot . Shes not like any of the other final girls in the sense that she is more terrifying than any of the killers.. she was so bad ass with how she smiled as she pulled the gun and i cant wait for the next movie
When this video started and you were sounding so hesitant about whether these movies were any good, I was so excited to watch you be pleasantly surprised again and again. Did not disappoint.
Stu has a chance of coming back for the same reason Kirby did.
In Scream 5, a computer screen confirmed Kirby survived Scream 4, and I believe on the same screen there was an article/webpage talking about how Stu was theorized to be alive.
There's honestly a 50/50 shot he's alive.
The Stu being alive theory comes from the fact that was the original plan for Scream 3. For the 3 the pot was going to be Stu running a cult of Ghostfaces from prison but the plot was changed after Columbine. And Kevin Williamson the creator of the franchise would later use this plot for his tv series The Following starring Kevin Bacon.

Great video! I love that you love the opening of 3 so much. You should seek out the director's cut (I believe there's a less than VHS quality copy out there). There are some minor additions, but it's worth a watch for the original opening with Cotton alone. All the bits with his girlfriend are re-shoots. The original scene is longer and builds more tension with the freeway phone call. Would love to hear what you think of it. 🔪

Im sure you know this already, but there were hints that Kirby was alive even in Scream 4. If you haven't already, listen to the commentary for that scene and Scream 5 has a Kirby cameo on TH-cam when Richie is talking with Sam.
And that’s not the same house in part five it’s a studio in North Carolina. The actual house is in my hometown. The original was filmed in my hometown.

I really appreciated this commentary on my favorite film franchise. I agree with the new casts presented in Scream 4 as unlikeable. Overall I enjoy the mystery of the films and the eventual plot twist. Hopefully they can salvage Scream 7 so that the entire franchise goes out with a bang.
I’m a huge Scream buff and loved your analysis on the franchise as a whole but I would love for you to give the mtv scream a chance to marinate because there is a reason why there are 2 seasons it allows (2 I know there is 3 but the third is unconnected to the first 2 and we should not talk about that one because it actually is really bad.) but yeah give it a watch I’m sure if you loved the scream franchise as a whole and are very critical of writing as I am I’m sure you will find it enjoyable to watch it.

The best is easily the original, the best sequel to me is Scream 3 ^_^
"Scream 3" to me comes off as a psychological horror film, especially with how Roman uses Sidney's PTSD to play mind games. Roman is not just the strongest Ghostface physically but also mentally.
Minor correction... Sam is Billy Lewis's daughter. But Tara isn't. They're half-sisters. Otherwise, the timeline of Billy getting Sam's mother pregnant makes no sense because he would have been dead before the time Tara was conceived. In fact, the timelime of him getting Sam's mother pregnant when Sam was conceived is cutting it close, too.
God, the TRIVIA and BTS stuff for these films is so much. Hope you can come across all of them!
Scream 3 is my fave movie of all time. I know it was too comedy and they toned down violence but I love Roman so much. His ghostface was objectively the best. Just needed more better writing

The main problem with the writing is that it's not a single writer. Ehren Krueger wrote most of the story but was removed to write "Reindeer Games" and Leta Kalogridis, Wes Craven and Carrie Fisher helped do the rewrites.

Its really interesting hearing your thoughts as a first time viewer. I personally love 4. I thought it was "meh" when i first saw it but i think it actually works better now than it did back in 2011. I think its aged remarkably well. And i went into 5 with the lowest of expectations and they nailed it. Its nice to have a longrunning horror franchise. Still not seen 6. So no opinion there

Scream (5) along with Scream are my favorites, I love the motive for Scream 2022 because it comments on the toxic fandoms hating the media they're supposed to be a fan of nowadays.
What makes the scream franchise great is the fact that it's the only horror franchise that's self aware
Not sure if anyone’s pointed this out but the beginning scenes in the first 3 scenes each of the murders were related to the story.
In the first movie, the opening murder of Casie Becker was because she was the ex of Stu Macher and she had left him for Steve Orth, and so both him and Loomis worked together to kill her and Steve
In the second movie the opening murder of Maureen Evans and Phil Stevens to mimic the the murders of the first Woodsboro murders as in Maureen Prescott and Steve Orth. As all the murders are supposed to mimic the previous movie
And in the third movie, Cotton Weary was killed (in part due to Liev Schreiber wanting to being killed off) due to Cotton being the first death in his script as he begins killing them off in order to the script.
Tara, and Sam are 100% not going to even be in Scream VII lol
Sam's boyfriend being involved would be awesome! My hubs and i kept thinking he was Ghostface when we watched the movie. Matthew Lillard coming back would be a great twist also. The only problem is that i always seem him as the guy from Thirteen Ghosts.🤷♀️

You seemed quite proud of knowing that Richie was a killer in part 5, but conveniently ignored Amber, the 2nd half of the duo. So you really only guessed half correctly. Whether you liked her or not, it behooves you to mention such an important detail for a series centered around reveals.
Am I the biggest fan of the Scream cinematic universe? No. I am not.
Do I binge watch Thrifty's channel? Yes. Yes, I do.
Dang, scream 1-3 is a trilogy that I rewatch over and over but I genuinely didnt want to watch the newer 3 because I thought they would for sure ruin the story. But now i think im gonna have to watch them and binge them and see what i think. I think I seem to remember watching the beginning of 4 and then being like nah, this sucks, im done. Lol. So I should give it a retry.

I will forever respect Wes Craven & Ehren Kruger in Scream 3 for putting in a Harvey Weinstein plotline directly in front of him as he is sadly an exec producer on these movies. That is some insane nerve.

The first 2 Scary movies are among the best parody films that exist.
I hate what they did with Dewey in 5. Tearing him down and then giving him a crappy death scene was just horrible. Especially considering it was supposed to be Amber that killed him. Legacy characters deserve to be taken out by epic killers. Not whatever she was.
What's funny is that scream 4 is the best one. And the only reason they took so long to make another one was because of Wes craven's death.
unfortunately we might not get the 7th movie Melissa (sam) was fired and Terra (jenna) quit the next day after her co-star was fired...so 2 of the main leads are no longer with the franchise. so I honestly don't see how they can continue without messing them up.

Always loved Scream as was growing up it was always Scream this Scream that
