I was lucky and Buckin ‘ gave me a axe like yours . I splits wood wonderful , when splitting the real tough ones l use a sledgehammer and a steel splitting wedge . And when that is to hard l resort to cutting them up with the powersaw . Keep on that woodpile, it may be another cold winter 👍🇨🇦
I've been pleased so far with my 28" stihl pattern holzfforma bar but I've never had a chain stretch as much as the holzfforma! What a beautiful pair of axes😯 Buckin' does incredible work!
I ordered an 18" bar and chain combo when I bought my 660 kit. Just to test the quality and for a beater. I've been impressed with it, haven't used it a ton. It was on sale for something like $11.82. I didn't have much to lose. I put a 32" Tsumura light on my ms441. I love it. Stand up and buck!!!!!!!!!
Hi there tin Man I was sharing a story with bucking Billy Ray but I think it was some of his older videos so I don't know if he'll ever see it or not so not really having nothing to do with what you were talking about but I thought I'd share a story with you I'm from the US I grew up in Virginia when I was about 13 years old they put a lot of gas wells in down to a lot of trees my dad told me it would be a good idea by chainsaw get out cut far wood sell it in the winter time lots of people were putting in Buck stoves I would do a lot of work on chainsaws at the time I really shocked me at all the people that had bought cells and could not sharpen them I had people from two counties away bringing songs to me just to sharpen them to make a long story short by the saw homelite XL 12 when I was 13 years old I cut firewood and cut firewood and I put it back for a 13-year-old I had probably about 5 or 6 chords and I'd tell my Dad it was hot weather I'm not going to cut no more nobody's going to buy this stuff he would tell me son just keep cutting when it snows you'll sell it so I go out and cut more I cut more sure enough for snow came one week I was out of firewood I sold every stick I had but the main thing about the story I want to tell you that XL 12 I bought when I was 13 I put one pull rope in it one spark plug numerous bars and chains I'm 59 years old and three pulls and that's all start and run today this is good as it did when I was 13 years old great video keep up the good work
a good splitting axe is faster than a woodsplitter, if you have straight grained wood…at least for 20 minutes…if I have a truckload of knotty stuff, its wood splitter time. for a few wheelbarrows, I just use an ax. green birch I split when its -25 or colder, it just pops apart with astounding ease. cheers, sir!🇨🇦
Thanks for this review! I'm thinking about picking up one of their 18" bars for one of my smaller saws. I pillaged the bar from that saw for an 036 that I picked up and run more often. Totally agree on the ax. Profile is everything. Having said that, after 30+ years of splitting everything by hand (mostly hickory), my should forced me into a hydraulic splitter. I miss the exercise, but not the shoulder pains.
I bought my G660 3 years ago, I got the Holzforma bar. I soon learned that the bar is ONE drive link shorter than the OEM so when I bought a 3 pack of chains form Bailey's there wasn't enough travel in the tensioner to get an OEM chain tight enough.
Same here. Lol 2 28 inch 1 36 inch and a 25 inch. Used them all lots actually with no issues. Bought them in March of this year straight from farmertec. The chains that came are all square ground tho. They cut awesome .
I hate splitting spruce...tough and usually don't even bother trying to split it. I always thought that Buckin just has really nice splitting wood, straight grained and cracks open like a walnut....but you just proved that the "tazy" really makes the job look easy.
I purchased an 18" holtzforma bar and chain as well it is working just fine for me and for the price. I agree the chain doesn't seem to stay sharp as long as an Oregon chain but it works and cuts good in frozen jack pine and tamarac. TC Tinman Mahalo🤙🤙🤙

I just built a 390 and was considering picking up a 24” bar and skip tooth but wasn’t sure if that was too much bar. Sounds like your 390 pulls the 28” just fine. Is that right?
@@dariolunardi5890 Yeah Ive had no issues with the 28 full house chain, Ive also had no issues with running a 32 with a skip tooth but only for felling.
It’s been several years since I bought a Sugihara bar. It was a 32” Husqvarna pattern for a 90cc Solo. Right at 100 bucks. Very nice bar. I also have an Archer on my Holzfforma 372 that works just fine. I have a Raptor 20” on a Stihl 461 that seems very nice. They will both keep you throwing the chips. 👍
I like Cannon Super Duralite made in Canada 🇨🇦 28”32”and 36”inch in STIHL Mount they are the best bars I have used they hold there edge really well cutting Australian hard wood. Im surprised your not using Cannon bars made in your home country Canada 🇨🇦.
I agree with you on the bar and chain i think the bars would be good for saw porters and cookie cutters and i like the chain pretty good to me its really close to the stihl rs
I sold a 5lb Collins head and a Collins double a few months ago. I wanted to put handles on and try, but I wasn’t getting there and cash was important…… I started using fiskars before getting those heads, and their geometry is unique and effective.
Yeah, I knew the double bit wasn't going to be the main character in a wood splitting video! LOL If you check .75 to 1.5" back from the edge that wood splitting axe is 2 or 2.5 times as thick as the Truetemper. When I worked on a survey crew we had a splitting axe and it was garbage for cutting down trees. I used a file and learned to drawfile. I took the hump out of the splitting axe over 2-3 months and it was a decent felling axe after that. I picked up a 3.5# Craftsman double bit a few months back at the flea market for $10. Just needs the head tightened up and it will be fine.

I tried their chains a few years ago and you get what you pay for. I’m cutting hard maple, maybe good for softwood, not maple. Average guy maybe. Better off spending on a Stihl bar and chain and not have any problems. You can find decent deals on eBay on Better bars.
My understanding is there is only 3 maybe 4 production plants for bars in the world...These same plants will paint any name on the same bar. It is up to the seller to come up with the price...I am sure they would produce a Tin Man bar if you place an order for a few thousand of them!😃

I can split more and faster with a good axe than I can with my log splitter and not near as sore when I'm done. I'm 22 years older than you and have pins and screws and a bit of super glue holding me together.
SPlitting wood is just like golf. Head weight and speed are King. You are swinging with your arms and back instead of your wrists. That'll wear you out fast. I have an 8lb maul with a 40 inch handle and wood just explodes

If you like a stiffer bar, you should look at a cannon duralight... slightly heavier than a stihl es light... but significantly stiffer

Tinman. If you want a good bar, you need to get yourself a GB bar. Made in Australia for the forestry mostly, but you can get stihl pattern bars
What do you think about echo bars? I have a 20 bar and i don't know why it doesn't lubricate good.
A lot of new bars have tiny oil holes to make you use less oil, you have to drill them out to the width of the oil slot on the saw & deburr.

A man needs 2 axes. A 4.5lb Tassie for splitting and a 4lb jersey for falling/bucking. On 30-32" handles.

I wouldnt buy a hulzforma bar again , the oiler holes are way bigger than husky and they clog up with chips . and the chain fits tight and gets hot
After extended use mine began to delaminate... not worth the money in my opinion
